i wouldnt bother its extremely fiddly and you cant do all that much without breaking some parts of the hud (like making enemies invisible on the radar or just making them indistinguishable from friendlies

If you can't see the AppData Folder : Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization. Select Folder Options, then select the View tab. Under Advanced settings, select Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then select OK Now you should be able to see it like in Spankys video.

This doesn't work for me, Steam version of ED: Horizons. I opened it in: C:\Users\MyUserName\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Graphics changed it with notepad and saved it without renaming the .xml file or changing the file format - it's still default HUD colors.

There should be sliders inside the options menu for this, and also a better way, so it not changes the hue of everything, but like selective color grading. That way enemies doesn't show in green and allies in red for example.

Yeah, I don't get why these aren't in-game options, either. HUD editing should be fairly standard stuff in an options menu. Actually, though, Frontier should just totally redo the HUD color system. It's sort of ridiculous that everything is controlled by the same three sliders. If you go too far off default, the color character portraits in station UIs don't look right.

These are the settings I use for a green HUD which is a better colour scheme for VR. Hostile are still red and NPC images are in full colour. 0.2, 0, -1 -1, 1, -1 1, 0.31, 1 Even your informative videos are amusing and brilliant.

I mean, on the one hand, yeah, you should be able to customize your cockpit. But on the other hand, ember orange really is the best color for dark environments. I might fiddle around with the colors now and then, but I always come back to default.

We should start a petition and send it to the major networks and tell them if it doesn't happen we are going to turn up in Anacondas outside their buildings and "accidentally" launch barrages of seeker missiles and "slip" and "accidentally" set off the multicannon turrets and pulse lasers. I wish the game didn’t use one big color matrix for everything. You should be able to change the individual colors in-game. (E.g. have an RGB menu for “warning red” or “shields blue”.)

I have a feeling the Devs knew the Oranges and reds were a good choice for default colours, considering i've heard running the game at night with custom blue colours etc really hurt the eyes in VR. The warm colours apparently don't.

But when we do this, NPC pictures fail to load in the mission/passenger screens. Or anywhere where picture thumbnails show up like the comms UI and SRV/Fighter UI. Anyway to do this without breaking the NPC headshots?

Btw, ya'll, I recommend using Notepad++, adds basic color coding when it detects code tags and such. I found it years ago and use it exclusively in place of Notepad.

I've tried several color configs even the "best" ones on that forum post but it's just a pain things will look mostly good but then certain things are so bright you can't read the words or certain things will be awkward colors for example try to use a blue and red HUD only and some things will be pink (like blindingly bright pink) or say you just want a white HUD well then everything is white and you can't tell allies from enemies and warning messages don't stand out so I just gave up and reverted it to the ugly default colors

I have edited the overide the exact way it's done in the video and saved the notepad along with restarting the game 3 times and the HUD is default everytime.. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a way to change the HUD color anymore?

I found the problem. this video is out of date. I play ED through Oculus. the folder location is not under appdata. It 's \Oculus Rift Apps\Software\frontier-developments-plc-elite-dangerous\Products\elite-dangerous-64. the file to edit is GraphicConfiguration.xml

Something's wrong on my end. I followed every step, got a nifty HUD from NO2O, set it up in the GraphicsConfigurationOverride.xml, saved it with UTF-8 coding, and my HUD remains the same eyeball-tiring Orange that should be reserved for boring ol' stars we've seen dime-a-dozen of.
