Just excellent. Sometimes a little knowledge is life altering. I don’t know if I would have ever thought of that improved technique. It changes a small pain in the ass and transforms it into a legitimate working tool. Thanks for the demonstration.

I got one as a gift. Now my daughter makes them for me as gift to give my friends. I bought all the parts on Amazon, the 550 cord that we use has a flammable core string that's colored for easy id in the field. Great video- Keep up the awesome work!

Make em with the snap off plastic ends so you don't choke.

They are basically two cones or funnels the cord goes through melt and it doesn't slide back out -(-©. The cones are like they snap together in middle and make a double hallow funnel. {} And when pulled with enough strength it snaps apart avoiding choking.

Great tip. I have tendonitis in my fingers so the only ferro rods I have purchased were large because that were the easiest to hold.

Thanks a lot for sharing this technique. I own the wazoo and (so far) wore it mostly as jewelry. (And for the excellent arkansas sharpening stone...) There's also the firerod and scraper attached, but I couldn't figure out how to use them successfuly... Until now!

Very useful technique! Looks as if this would work while wearing gloves (at least on the ferro rod hand). Longer striker may be needed on other hand if wearing gloves. Reduced dexterity due to cold or exhaustion limits the usefulness of these small fire starters. Thank you for the workaround.
@k5hoho
@k5hoho 23 күн бұрын
Same hold, but under your finger. Then put the striker in the tender and drag your finger/rod across the striker. No chance to get burnt or push your tender away.

I would agree for larger ferro rods, but pushing the striker instead offers more leverage for such a small ferro rod. In the end, as long as you get a fire, it doesn't really matter.
