Totally agree. Teddy is a class act and genuine. As for Kirby being a gentleman, he is of course self styled. He does not carry himself as one would expect from a background he purports to come from. He’s very false, and of course. The great giveaway of someone fabricating their social background, is they are inevitably always dreadful snobs, which of course Kirby is. He has no interest in common brands!

I love Teddy’s genuine enthusiasm for the entry level level watches. Sadly this is not reciprocated by Kirby, he moves on swiftly through the “cheap end!” Kirby’s only becomes animated when talking about what is perceived as exclusive. When people today reference Louis Breguet as the inventor of the tourbillon they fail to give due credit to John Arnold, who was the first to develop the concept of a tourbillon, and whose initial work on the mechanism was curtailed by his death. However, Arnold passed his work to Breguet, who personally acknowledged Arnold’s contribution to the invention of the tourbillon by placing his first tourbillon not into one of his own watches, but into one of John Arnold’s early pocket chronometers, Arnold No. 11, which he presented to John Arnold’s son, having also had it engraved with the following inscription: “The first Tourbillon timekeeper by Breguet incorporated into one of the first works of Arnold. Breguet's homage to the revered memory of Arnold, given to his son AD 1808."

Kirby. Im going to make an admission. I am a classic Texan, and lived overseas for the biggest part of my career. You will laugh if you read this. But when I lived in India, at the annual Marine ball at the US Embassy I wore a bespoke pair of tuxedo trousers. A tailored Indian wedding jacket complete with blue semi precious stones. A high end Stetson, ( In full transparency I have four Cattleman's) and Ostrich skinned western boots. My wife and I could not sit out any of the dances. I wore a 39 mm gold Cartier Santos. Now I am done. Go ahead a laugh, but dude it looked really good. And yes I speak, French, Spanish, and Hindi. I would claim English but my Spanish wife would say otherwise. She claims I speak Texan.

I owned two Junghans automatic dress wristwatches. It is a well-designed wristwatch. One is gaining minutes and the other is losing minutes. The watches are a year old. When people made reviews of this watch they never talked about how accurate the timekeeping of this watch was. It is the worst watch I have ever purchased. The timekeeping of both eyes was never accurate. I would not advise anyone to buy such an expensive wristwatch that is not accurate. The hand-wound version might be different in terms of timekeeping and accuracy. I am using this medium to tell the world that Junghans is producing a wristwatch that is not fit for purpose.

Gentlemen. You need to consider interviewing a person like myself, who is an electrical engineer by degree, and a businessman by vocation. With the focus on how a person like myself would become a self taught horologist, focussing on vintage pocket watches. As well, you’ll get the perspective of someone that is older than 40 years old, however, acts more like a 25-year-old according to my wife. And just as you, gentlemen, are you showing, I do have a watch collection that does include watches such as Hamilton and Elgin; from 60 years ago. For your consideration.

1. the watch choices are fine. 2. I have custom suits, tuxedoes, Borsalino hats, etc. I will pass on some advice if you don't have the budget. Most people don't have clue about watch brands. Keep one clean analog watch with a new leather strap for the special date or ocassion. People notice a strap as well as the face of the watch. Daily wear of a leather strap wears it out in 2-3 years. It is more a matter of what watch you don't wear: 1. don't wear a canvas, NATO, rubber, twist-a-flex strap. 2. don't wear a watch that resembles a Christmas tree with all kinds of buttons. Yes, I work on my own watches. Rather than buying an expensive watch for the special ocassion, consider buying a better strap and put it on clean low cost watch with a white face and that is appropriate for your wrist. I just walked over and looked at one of my "going out tonight" watches. It is a Hamilton Masterpiece purchased used and I put a new "alligator " leather strap on it. I also have excellent condition Wittnauers and others with new leather straps in reserve. Conversely, I wore a new Bulova Corporate watch since December 2023 and in three months I have worn the original strap to such a state that it would not look good with a expensive clothes.

Mr. Allison: Your advice please: I would love to start wearing some of the watches I purchased in the 1980s which have been tucked away for lots of years but I really like having my FitBit on to keep track of my heart, calories burned, etc. It would seem dorky to wear a classic tank watch on one wrist and my FitBit on the other wrist. Am I wrong? Maybe wear one on alternating days? Or, is it an either/or choice? Thank you for all the gentlemanly advice.
