Type 7 resembles what a garbage truck would look like if they took off the wheels and gave it rockets instead. And yet is still about as maneuverable as an actual garbage truck. No argument on the #1 choice though. The Cobra IV seems less like a "bonus" to early backers and more like an insult. Thanks Frontier, for that.

Zoopster1 Zoopster1 depends on the driver :p I work for a garbage company and some drivers easily out maneuver a variety of smaller vehicles. And I'm talking the big commercial trucks, not the smaller rear-loaders. I honestly see examples on a daily basis, and it's amazing. Just wanted to say that :)

@@Neutronic01 Came here to say this. I bought a T7 specifically to load up with econ pax cabins and do station evac. I wouldn't want to trade in it because it's slow and has no range, and trading to me is all about reducing your exposure to pirates. But if all you're doing is running back and forth to a rescue ship, it's perfect, and rescue runs are a great way to grind rank.

I actually think it’s one of the best visual designs of all ships in the game. It’s not good-looking, but it looks exactly like what it should look like: a blocky, industrial design for a space-truck. Not a greebled up geometric shape.

@@Demmrir - yes, exactly! It actually LOOKS like a cargo ship. Look at real life transport trucks, trains, ships and planes - they're all either very boxy (first three), or basically a giant fat tube with wings (planes). I just wish FDev had made it a medium ship. It's only slightly too big to fit the medium pad, apparently (height, I believe). Oh, it can also outrun NPCs both in realspace and interdictions, whereas the Type-9 really struggles with that. It's a shame that it's completely overshadowed by the Python.

I find the type-7 to be quite the capable cargo, passenger and mining ship. Type-7 is more versatile than given credit.

It can't fit a medium mining laser, and its distributor is terrible. I used to mine in it until I realized just how important having a medium mining laser is when filling a hold that size.

I think ill agree with you i got a Keelback and for only 3 mill instead of 17 mill you get a medium hardpoint i use the Keelback as a tank bounty hunter , but i hear its one of the best mining ships.

My hauler gets 50.5ly per jump and I can transfer it anywhere in the bubble for about 20k creds. 30k to Maia. It's a perfect taxi.

Hauler, it hauls things, prefferably in-system. Its not a trader, its not big enough for it. You haul specific thigs with it. In other words, its a Mission ship. Name suits it fine i think. I do like the Hauler. I love the Type 7, its a good middleground trader. It doesnt need a great jumprange, you will be working within the bubble most of the time. It doesnt need speed, its a trader. same goes for manouverability. And it is cheaper than the Clipper and alot cheaper than the Python. Because its a trader. So all in all, fuck me i guess, i love this ship. the Beluga Liner is a fantastic tourist ship, and a decent trader. And it looks sweet as fudge. Its fuel efficiency also makes it a good long-distance explorer (No, having a high jumprange is not always what you want, lower jumprange means more jumps thus more exploration. Asp Scout is... yea... shit. same goes with Cobra 4

i tried all the type line replaced all of them (expect the keelback I kept that till I got anaconda) but while yes the python is expensive compared to the type 6 it also one of the best ships in the game.

The Keelback has a great use: Put a fighter in it and multicrew with a friend. Cheapest way to do that, and outfitted correctly and with a fighter this thing can kick some butt. Also if you've never tried multicrew, this is a great way to try it.

The problem with the Type 7 is they made it just a tad too tall. It can fit on a medium pad... but it doesn't have the head room for a medium hanger, so it has to use large pads. If it was shorter and bit wider (to make back the volume), it would be a fine ship... as it is, the Python is where it's at for outpost cargo running, the Type-7 could have been a cheap cargo version of that. And when I heard that the Cobra Mk4 was the bonus for signing up early, I didn't rush to the door. Even mark Cobras are cursed... always buy the odd ones.

The Type 7 is a great versatile ship, though a bit slow it is fully capable of mining, exploring and hauling. Having taken one 7500 lyrs from the bubble while mining the whole way there and back; it is a capable ship. Did I mention it is one third the price of comparable ships with the same amount of optional slots. The real reason Yamiks is so off put by this ship is that he has the hand eye coordination of a tree sloth and can't get it's forehead through the mail slot, anyone else who actually passed a driving exam should have no problem. However you do the math, Type 7 wins, Yamiks loses.

hey, i actually like the hauler for using as a quick taxi ship so i don't have to mail other ships all over the place, it has some pretty basic usage early on in the game like doing simple data missions (no cargo space needed), it's the best stock jump range ship for a new player with no real money yet in the bank to spend on a cobra or asp x, so that's why i recommend it for new players wanting to get out of their non-A-rated starter sidey

I used it as the cheapest taxi. But then I sold it and got a DBX for that role, which costs a bit more, but is still affordable.

I made a pure trucking T-7 once. Stripped it of everything and put the lightest modules I could except for the best FSD, thrusters and a very weak sheild. My flying brick almost topped out at 400m/s under boost, it was amazing. Now, brakes; the thing has absolute shit for brakes, I don't think it was ever meant to go that fast.

I like the type-7 because it was the first ship I was able to afford for huge passenger missions. I also used the asp explorer for passenger missions, it worked pretty well too.

How does the python make type 7 useless? It's closer in price to the type 9 than the type 7. So there is a huge price window where python isn't an option yet and by the time it is you're getting ready to get into a type 9. It's also one of the harder cargo ships to interdict thanks to its yaw speed

Cobra iv actually makes a decent entry level core miner now...its a bit slow, but its got the slots to do all it needs with no compromises and can carry nearly 100million worth of void opals if you add up the refinery bins and cargo space......of course, anyone with access to it has had the game for quite a while and can get a better bigger ship for it, but.....I've been using mine a bit, just because its takes about as long to fill the hold with opals as I can be arsed to do it, and there is no other role to use the ship in that it does not suck

I actually like the Keelback as a starter mining ship, especially when you don't have a friend to bounty hunt and protect you. Sure, you lose a class 4 internal compared to the T6, but in the Keelback you have enough internals to put everything you need to mine (refinery, prospector and collector limpets, shields and a nice 64t of cargo space) and you have additional hardpoints to defend yourself and a tougher hull.

But it needs a large landing pad, so there's no justification for not going with a proper large ship. If you want something cheap for community event hauling, go for an Asp Explorer which is the best (cheap) medium hauler a little ahead of Type-6. (Python is also medium, but expensive)

If the Cobra 4 had a class bigger distributor it would probably be a good alternative. It's more piratey a ship than the Cobra 3, but with an extra hardpoint it can't fire it as much. Type 7 needs to fit on a medium pad. It costs a third the Python but slightly betters it for trading. And for both Asp and DB scouts if they had been lore'd to being combat cuts, essentially long range fighters (so not as good a fighter), it would have a point.

Hauler: I use to haul myself from ship A, at Station A, to ship B, in system B. Type-7: I use to help evacuate stations that were recently attacked by Thargoids and are burning. Beluga: I use it for the obvious....... Passenger runs. Asp Scout: Never bought it, probably never will. Never appealed to me. Cobra IV: Has yet to come to PS4 (The version ED I play) for purchasing, so I have no opinion either way. Keelback: Not flown it yet. If I do, it will be a mining vessel for me only. Imp Cutter: Not yet unlocked for me, but ME WANT!!!!! Fed corvette: Same reason as Cutter. Viper IV: Like ASP Scout, doesn't appeal to me.

Funny as always, but the Cobra Mk4 is a great ship. 8 internals on a small ship is a great thing. Its a good miner and pirate ship. I've done both in it and it works well. Currently though i have it set up as a bomber.

Hilarious as usual, man. The T7 stanks, but at least unlike the asp for its cargo capacity, it is about the best cargo without ranking for s clipper in the price range. Personally I love the Hauler, its my ride and ranking/light bgs/data runner and mat gatherer, though the name does bug the shit out of me. The Beluga, I think the obly reason it gets away with being what it is, is at that price you have the ships that do the jobs well and also a party boat. It makes a moderately decent hauler given its jump range. Its still prrtty meh though. The Cobra 4... I am not a backer or early adopter. I missed that bost by about 8 months I think but I wish I had that ship. I'm a nutjob who actually does like mining, and it would make a delicious small ship miner. About the same as a T6 with a medium laser to boot, and defensive guns. Not quite the same speed though. I want one of every ship fitted out for what its good for and I'm more than halfway there. But FUCK the Asp Scout.

I somehow made my viper mkIV thicker than a python, my viper had a hull integrity of 1,400+ and shields at a 600 and my python is at 1,100 and idk about shield (And it had a REALLY good speed and manoverability somehow)

I know there your opinions so here is mine (: The Type-7 was my primary ship for a long time for passengers and exploration sure mine is fully engineered, and for exploration, I get about 25ly jump range but filling it up with fuel tanks as well I don't have to refuel for at least 1500ly's. Also, the Buluga is my money making ship I now use for passengers it works excellent and love flying it. Now you have to understand that I never bought or needed an anaconda I never purchased or needed a Python. My ship I do exploration in now is an exceptionally engineered Cobra MK III. And for combat, I use the federal type ships assault dropship and Gunship. Its all I ever need Cobra for everything else Buluga for making money (replaced the Type-7) and the Federal ships for combat.

Yeah I loved it. It was my first ship post-Sidewinder and I held onto it for a good couple hundred hours until I got my Python (which is basically the Viper IV's bigger brother). Unlike a lot of people I found the AspX to be severely underwhelming as a multirole ship so I went back to the Viper IV and just kept saving my credits. I kinda regret not getting a Cobra or Viper mk III tho. I feel like I missed out on the progression.

viper 4 is pretty good but it suffers from the bad first impression even if it's stat's on paper are a lie that is what people will see first wen looking at it and confirmation bias does the rest

The problem with the Viper 4 is when people try to treat it like a Viper 3 and then b!tch about how slow it is. No, it isn’t built to take enhanced performance engines, you’re meant to face down trouble instead of outrunning it. Accept that they are very different beasts and play to its strengths and you’ll have a much better time.

Okay, some things here: - Hauler is on par with the Sidewinder for cost and has 50% extra jump range and double haulage. Not a bad upgrade if you want to haul...and this is after Sidewinder got all those extra size-1 slots from various FDev goodies over the years. - Type 7 can fly circles around a Type 9 and can actually evade pirates. Type 9 cannot. Well, unless a type-10 is chasing you, but I always get like vultures and FDLs and cutters chasing me. 6/6/6/5/5/5 internals kick ass for passenger OR cargo.. Also, it's how a transport should look. Boxy. The fucking Type-9 looks like an overweight Type-7 that tried to eat an oversized Cobra and got it stuck in it's throat. The Type-7 should have been a fucking medium but hey, FDev is the opposite of perfect... - Transports generally don't need hard points. Why are you whining about this? Cutting out a thing to increase capacity elsewhere and/or save on weight is a valid vehicle design concept. I otherwise agree about the others, although I'd like to point out that it's entirely the "penis extenders" (wings) that make the Beluga suck. Get rid of them and it would be fine..or at least it wouldn't be stuck in the fucking mailslot AGAIN..

Yamiks have you ever tried mining in a Beluga? No. Well go out and try it, you'll be amazed. A few hours mining in a Beluga only feels like a few weeks and not months in any other ship.

yamiks apparently the beluga is the only ship that works well for mining for me... I had a luga and a cutter . at the time and used the beluga for mining. . and in every situation cutter would be better.. so I made my cutter the miner and I didn't find a single rock to crack.... but for beluga.. I find LOADS... plus this was all done in the same hotspot and ring with void opals.

Keelback has better armor, better engines and hardpoints on top and below, which allows 360° fire with turrets. It's a great trader that'll send pirates of same class directly to their funeral.

Agree entirely about the Asp scout and Cobra MkIV. I'd looked forward to both ships being released but they were effectively nerfed at birth. How can a small scout version of the Asp explorer be so much slower? Doesn't make any sense. The Cobra MK IV was always going to be a bit bigger than the III but to take one of the fastest ships in the game as the basis and produce the slowest thing in space from it was just ridiculous. It's the Lanner II of this version of Elite for me.

5- Good early game trader and excellent early game explorer 4- Great bulk passenger and trading vessel 3- Probably one of the best bulk passenger ships, and underrated trading 2- Not gonna fight for it but not second worst in the game 1- Decent priced early game fighter that can ***sort of*** be used for bounty hunting but also rares and regular trading

I like using the Type 7 for mining... am I alone in this? Also, my ship of choice for grinding with noob friends is the Viper MK4, I don't die in embarrassing fashion and it's cheap, well compared to my normal ride; AspX baby! Can't wait until I get back from my current exploration run into the galactic core so that I can finally try out the Python or the new shiny Krait. So far my least favorite ship is the Cobra with the Hauler in close second.

The ONLY thing that was ever good about the hauler was before ship transfer- we had to buy these and fit them with best jump range possible to go to where our ships were stored, sell hauler, get in ship and fly back (we called it a "taxi"). Not much better now, but at least you can feesibly transfer anything that isn't the big 3 (err, 4 now, if you fly the t10).

my place one goes to the beluga, its the "biggest" ship in the game and specialized for tourism, yet it's outperformed by all of the big three and, considering safety, less valuable then a python, which is cheaper and can land on a medium pad while transporting only a little less passengers.

i just made a cheapo pirate cobra iii on coriolis to see how early can someone become a pirate. with 1.2 milion budget you get a fully operational low temperature diamond hunter with cargo to fit 1 mill worth of LTDs. I outfitted it with C/D internals to decrease the price substantially and its already fast (300 m/s base, 400 m/s boost) so D rated thrusters dont hurt. 15 ly jump range with 4C FSD which is respectable. FSD Interdictor, 1A hatchbreaker, 3A collector limpets and you get all the loot. some 4D shield that will sustain fire from a T-6 or T-7, 2 medium pulses and 2 small weapons of choice like cannons, MCs, seeker missiles. Hell, if only I knew about LTDs Id have used that build! instead of hauling shit in my T-6 early on.

Honestly I like many of the ships you listed but they honestly can't fill any role in my hanger as all my other ships just do better. I've tried to keep some but honestly just can't. I do love the keelback as it's a great step into the fighters however if you have a shit fighter pilot you're just gonna die. Type 9 honestly just doesn't have the hard points. I was hoping to make it my morning ship but it just can't measure up. I think the beluga is charming but it's too fucking difficult to move through the mail slot. I still keep it though.

The T7 isn‘t that bad after all. It is indeed a decent cargo ship and it’s not bad for mining either. Just don’t mine at a RES. But as soon as you can afford a Python it becomes pretty much obsolete. That‘s actually a shame, because it would be a really decent ship if it could only dock on outposts. But I guess the devs had a „frontier moment“ there.

Being new to the game. I naively bought the Viper Mk IV thinking "hey, it's the MK IV. So that means it's better than III." Nope. I did not win a single fight in it. At least it allowed me to save up for an Asp Explorer.
