I used to read "The Beano" growing up and just need to point out a few slips of the tongue. Dennis' jumper is red and black striped, not red and white (the picture is a bit of a giveaway on that) and it's Dennis the Menace and Gnasher, not Dennis the Gnasher. Dennis also used to tease/torment/bully a character called Walter. Walter had a Toy Poodle (called Fifi, I think) and was always very well dressed. Dennis called him Walter the Softie. Also, the L in Suffolk is silent, so sounds like "Suffok" when spoken. Sorry to sound picky.

My four old son went missing once and I frantically searched the house for him, the doors were all locked, I even looked inside the washer, dryer, dishwasher and all the cabinets, I finally went outside and asked a neighbor if he had seen my boy, he calmly told me to check his bed, there I found him, asleep, on top of his Star Wars bedspread, I learned a lesson that day, check the place the child was most comfortable.

Wilmer McLean, 5/3/1814 - 6/5/1882, was an American wholesale grocer from VA. In short, his houses were both involved in one of the first and one of the last encounters of the American Civil War. His house, near Manassas, VA, was involved in the First Battle of Bull Run in 1861. After the battle, he moved to Appomattox, VA, to escape the war, thinking that it would be safe. Instead, in 1865, General Robert E. Lee surrendered to Ulysses S. Grant in McLean's house in Appomattox.

My mother had to give up her first born back in the 60s but always tried looking for her all the way up until we lost her in 2011 never of gotten to see her. Me and my other older sister, five yrs older than me, lost our younger sister (only 3 yrs old) back in early 80s due to an accident along with our great grandmother. My younger sisters name was Angela. Well about 6 yrs ago my long lost sister found us through DNA type websites. We lived in south Georgia all this time and come to find out she even lived like an hour from us at one time and this was back when my mother was alive. Well my long lost sister lives in Oklahoma now, she only lived here in Georgia briefly. Oh and her name is Angela also. That was the name her adopted parents gave her when she was adopted. I’d literally give anything for my mother to get to meet her. That is all she ever wanted in life.

The "versions" of Dennis The Menace are mutually exclusive and was merely a coincidence. The UK one was a character from The Beano comic book (that I subscribed to as a kid), along with Minnie The Minx, Roger The Dodger, Ill Will and several others. It wasn't until the US one had a cartoon series on TV that we knew of him as just "Dennis," since Dennis The Menace was copyrighted in the UK--there wasn't a cartoon of our Beano characters until the late 90s.

Sure, you relate the famous 'separated at birth' twin story. I worked for a unit in a State office that handled the Adoption Registry. This was where adopted persons and birth mothers could register to meet. We heard about a set of twins girls who had been separated. The agency that handled the adoptions had made sure to not place them with families in the same town. However, one set of parents later moved to the same town the others lived in. These girls met in high school. The various friends of the two had been telling them how much they looked like the other. One of the girls had not been told she was adopted. After they had become friends that girl learned and when they were adults went back to the adoption agency who, while they obviously wouldn't tell who the birth mother was, they did say they were sisters... since it was pretty obvious they were. Another story I heard was from a man who did work for the same State agency, but not in the State offices. He had grown up in El Paso and had a lot of friends in the neighborhood who everyone thought he was one of the many cousins who did live and were friends. He later learned he was, indeed, related to these people.

In listing the differences between the two Dennis the Menace characters, it's mentioned that the British Dennis often carries a 'catapult' in his back pocket. The American term for this type of 'catapult' is 'sling shot' -- something that is OFTEN depicted in the back pocket of the American Dennis. So, not a difference at all. In fact, it's another interesting similarity. Also, the British Dennis character is NOT known as "Dennis the Gnasher". It's "Dennis the Menace and Gnasher" or, sometimes "Dennis and Gnasher".

Why do we call them plantation owners? They were slavers.
@Joanla1954
@Joanla1954 5 ай бұрын
They were plantations, they owned it hence the two words going together. History is full of "slavers", whites, blacks, asian we all have history of being slaves and owning them in some cases. Doesn't make it right but it happened and is still happening today in some parts of the world. The first man to own slaves in what would one day be the USA was himself a black man. Or so they say. But from the start hundreds/thousands of years ago the act of owning another human being against their will was/is sin. But that's because we are all slaves to sin. That's why Jesus came.

Our family lived on the border of Alabama/Georgia (I can not recall the exact town). The place we lived was on a Plantation that also was converted to a civil war hospital that an old man and his Asian cook/housekeeper. While there several very very odd things happened. A babysitter took us up into the second floor of the mansion that was only accessed by a small stairway off the main kitchen. The very odd thing was that she told us she was a witch and she showed us this 2nd, 3rd, and attic that since the end if the Civil War was exactly as it was at the end. She then told us (3 kids under 10) that spirits told her to bring children to a certain room. I mean it was like exact metal beds, medical equipment, bottles, and just looked like since the moment everyone left it was exactly as that day. This is also clear as say to me. My younger siblings do not remember anything even though they were awake and 6, 8, and me maybe 9 or 10. I also remember very clear the pepper fields (I think actual black pepper but not exactly sure but remember this really clear as well as the area around this mansion being pretty huge and we ran all over). We were very poor and I remember these food missions people who brought veggies and huge sacks of buckwheat flour we made pancakes and ate all the time. She then claimed that we now were all here to be protected by these dead spirits who had died in that mansion. She then told us to not be scarred or frightened by something that was going to occur. She said a human sacrifice was needed to complete this thing for the spirits. She said it was not our faults and the sacrifice was going to be an even she has nothing to also do with the sacrifice but it was needed and the entire time was speaking to, as she put it a room full of spirits we were surrounded by. She the entire time said we were safe and were not in danger and they were doing this for us and our protection. I also was shocked leaving because when we went up the stairs it was like just before noon because my mom worked at a restaurant and we had just been woken up less than an hour and the walk was maybe 10 min from a outbuilding near on this property. I remember the Asian woman and the man very well. She fed us many times and was just really nice to us. Side note just as context my mom was married to a man who was my siblings father but my stepfather. I was actually to learn later I was Jewish/German and born in Germany as a teen. My stepfather (James Edwin Brooks Jr. his real name and I am being 100% honest so fk him) was a really bad guy... I will spare everyone the details but I really went through some very bad things this guy did to me from 3-14yo. I did try to get him locked up and just could not convince my sister to give a sworn statement since she also was abused by him and since it was her dad understood her situation and just realized the detective had a lot of really big hurdles and costs to this and let it go. I am OK and have accepted things and it does hurt but I also have the help and support that has helped me. Thanks to being German I am well taken care of and my career as in IT/Tech/WebDev at 56 am doing OK. When we left it was pitch black dark. I mean late dark. It only seemed like maybe an hour not over 2 was this all from going up the stairs to leaving. Also like between she had these very odd moments she would never harm us but made us all take our clothes off and we would run naked in the dark several times. The property was large and no one around and no lighting.. However there was a main 2 lane road maybe 300 feet from the mansion as I recall. It really was as I say exactly as remembered today because I really had not thought of this for a long time... like very few over time. I am now retired and live in Germany because I wanted my kids to be dual citizens and I was a full German citizen so it was simple for me. 3 days maybe, but less than a week from that day I awoke and a pet has these puppies... The dog though was I think a German shepherd breed. But was not ours but remember it and playing with her on the land all the time the time we lived there. and I do not know what or why but something very unsettling to everyone was very apparent to me going on and they killed the mom dog and puppies and burned them in a fire. I have no idea why but it was not a subject to bring up and was told to never bring it up and I was pretty afraid so I did as told. I do not know how long from here but again one night awake not by anyone.. I noticed as I looked these lights and lots of them at the main road... I was told that the Asian woman had walked into the road and a car had killed her. I was told later by the sitter that the man had killed her and staged the body in the road and was then ran over. I have only that to go by but this is I think 1976 since I clearly also know it was the US bicentennial and we went to a rodeo in that area of time. I just watched this video and felt the need to share this and I had not thought about this since the 80s maybe. Around 1977 we were watching Jesus Christ Superstar and while watching a huge amount of police raided our place. I think my stepfather was a low level dealer... but I mean it was really like movies get on the floor... even us kids and they had weapons... I rem my parents being gone for a short time and we were taken care of by a family from Mexico who I think were migrants working as pickers or farm hands.. but they were really nice and took very good care of us the whole time and we ate better than we ever had and was sad to leave. I think maybe this was our sitters family but not sure. Even though nude she never abused us or anything other than saying hey you can take all your clothes off and even she and as a boy was the first time seeing a girl like that and also had a thing for girls that were Spanish so... We then moved back to Florida... and final note.. the reason we were in AL/GA was because our home burned to the ground killing a teen boy staying the night in 1974 in Tampa I have no proof but think my stepfather got away with murder but detectives did investigate this when I tried to put Jim in prison but said they had no way to prove it... but know the night it happens Jim carrying me from a back room into the very front and watching him place all this stuff around the door to the room... waiting a short time... and being thrown literally through a window onto the front of the car and watching from a window the entire trailer burn. Later being told Rex Pate had died... then soon we went to Kentucky where his family were and getting stranded in AL/GA because my mom got sick was in the hospital but recovered and that was the story I wanted to share... even though I do not know why.

If we are talking about weird coincidences here. I always consider Benjamin Britten and Sid James. Both men were born in 1913 and died the same year of heart attacks (1976), both men were a spitting image of each other and both were involved in controversies regarding their personal lives, if that isn't spooky, I don't know what is.

(3:35) :) Dennis the Menace UK (the original) has a red and black striped top on not a red and white one...It's literally pictured on the screen! As is "Dennis the Menace and Gnasher" on the cover of the 1995 Beano album, which the narrator thinks says "Dennis the Gnasher"!

My dog's name was Toy. Its short for tueful which means devil in german. His registered name is Tasmanian Tueful. He's a rottie who's mother came from Germany. Sometimes there is a rational reason for things. They would have named their dogs around the time the marines got their name devil dogs or tueful huden so tueful was a pretty common word. Sorry marines if I butchered the spelling its been a while since I've seen it spelled.

The difference in USA civil war battle naming is because the Union tended to name them after local rivers in they didn't consider the nearby town significant enough. Town boundries in those days could be rather extended from a center with more buildings.

There's a story of a guy who started college and while moving in found everyone to be extremely friendly. Later people kept calling him a strange name and incidents he never had. Finally someone realized the man and the one he was confused for were twins! Their story made the papers and a 3rd man came forward as their identical TRIPLET!!! Sadly years later one of the brothers took himself from the earth.

How's this for creepy- While in University, friends were constantly berating me for ignoring them when they'd seen me in town the preceding day. The thing is most of the time I hadn't been in town that day. This went on for weeks, I thought it was a practical joke being played on me by my friends, however, one evening one friend who I'd known since the first day of school told me he'd seen me in town that day. I told him it was impossible as I'd just returned from another town. He then replied 'yeah, I know that now... I got within about ten feet and was about to punch you when the guy brings out a cigarette and starts smoking and I know how much you hate smoking.' My friend then went on 'The guy is identical, he's the same height, build, clothing style, he has a swiss army knife on a pouch on his belt and he's semi ambidextrous wearing his watch on his right hand... hell, the guy even walks like you.' I still thought this was a joke or coincidence (I had experienced strangers hailing me in the street) until one day one of my female friends was idly chatting and mentioned she'd been drunk and chatting to me that evening... until she realised it wasn't me. At this point after remaining silent while my friend chatted to him, my doppelganger turned to her and said "I think you've got me mixed up with the other guy." (apparently his friends had been experiencing the same issues!) To embarrassed to break contact, she continued chatting to the guy. Only now she started subtly asking questions. She then asked me my date of birth, his matched. Freakier still, we were born in the same hospital. I come from the period before ultrasound, and my mother was apparently told she was expecting twins (No she wasn't). Some years later I was telling another friend this in a bar, when I noticed two women staring at us (a mother and daughter) across the bar. Both women, who were American, walked over and the mother said to me 'Holey shit, you look just like my son.' "Has your son ever been to Dublin?" 'No' "So let's have a photo together, and you can tell him about the time you visited Dublin with him. Then when he say's he's never been with you, you can bring out the photo and mess with his head." 'Yeah' said the mother 'That's the kind of shit he'd do too.' This freaked the hell out of my friend.

The bit about twins isn't uncanny at all. They are genetically identical after all. When they grow up without the influence of the other these traits naturally exhibit similar expression. It is growing up with the other twin and a longing for personal identity that leads to the differences present in most twins when they reach maturity
