Really? Every other player in the time focused on attacking the ball and willing using their power and spin, Waldner used his brain- he used their power against them and won though control and placement, he had a very different playing style to others
@DoggyP007 жыл бұрын
All players use their brain to utilize control and placement. That's just not enough to get the point for them, so they resort to other things more often than waldner does. Obviously, if you can end the point on your serve or with a simple block, everybody would do it. The thing is that only Waldner could.

Maybe I don't know about what "footwork" is. But I think Ryu Seung Min's strength has more to do with athletism. He actually made mistakes with his reading of the game, but his legs saved him in those cases. He was a natural. Today his successors would be Xu Xin, Mizutani or Aruna ... Ma long has the perfect footwork, even if he's not as fast going sideways.

That was in team event. From Beijing 2008 Olympic team events replaced doubles events. In singles Ryu lost in the third round (his first match) to Ko Lai Chak penholder from Hong Kong 4:2. Thank you for comment Christian Adrian Aniceta!
Man, that's incredible, there needs to be more studying done on how to promote different grip styles and playing styles through rule changes. Shake hand offensive is just far too dominant in the current ruleset. All these styles are still viable in amateur play but aren't as popular only because less pros use them.

Honest question is pen holding more optimal? Meaning can you get more spin and speed from it compared to holding it normally.
@benthekeeshond5457 жыл бұрын
Ryu and a few Korean penholders are really fast but this is also true with penhold players from other countries. Xu Xin is the immediate player I can think of and so is Ma Lin. Can we recall Guo Yue Hua and Jiang Jia Liang? Jiang being a smasher, he played close to the table and he possesses cat-like side to side movements.
