Honestly it's extremely heartening that the tallest statue in the world isn't of some ambiguous abstract deity but instead of a real life human being who dedicated his life towards not greatness but instead goodness, the fact that it was a real person sends a message that we too can strive to achieve such goodness and progress if not on a global scale at least in our own lives. I think the statue of Unity is a very fitting name. It's also one of the status that doesn't cheat the height record by using some long skinny sword or umbrella to achieve it's tallest point

Hello India. 😊. What I genuinely wish to know is if it's actually good art. I am being genuine. I'm an art historian, but not a specialist in Indian art history (but I certainly know the major Maurya, Gupta, Chola, Delhi Sultanate, Mughal sites). The colossal sculpture has a long history, but it was never really an Indian thing. Colossal Buddha sculptures exist in Asia. Colossal portraits of political figures were popular in ancient Rome. So to me, this sculpture might have an important Indian sculpture matter but seems very out of place in India - visually, stylistically. I would have preferred a colossal column at this size - referring back to Ashoka's columns and more impressive than the Qutb (that could make the Hindu nationalists happy, at least.) These collosal figural statues have only two traditional histories - dictators and buddhas. And the Indian example really isn't shaped to look like either in any way. I think it might send the wrong message

@@castario_ so? u might not know someone doesn't mean that indivisual isn't good, it just shows about your lack of knowledge and ignorance. Every country builds statue/monument according to ther faith system, civilisation, culture. For ex- statue of liberty has nothing to do with me, the pyramids have nothing to do with me, still i m curious to know about the history, idea, process and importance of it. Grow up buddy, respect others if u want them to respect u.

Almost every home has some figurines in them why shouldn't a city or country have some. Many locals like them too and it gives the same feeling of pride for your home. Tourism is mainly a byproduct. Ask these same people (if they are American) if they would sign a petition to give the statue of liberty back to France and build homes for the homeless in its place. I think they are just sad that not a single one on the list was American made. $140 million? That's like 3 superbowl commercials.

We are sorry that we have not provided a more detailed explanation of the map. We use a tool to create these maps and when you type in India, it highlights the territory that is generally accepted around the world. We have then done our best to manually shade all disputed areas in gray. We will make sure to do better with maps of India in the next videos 💛
