The old way of improving vintage film images: scan the negative if you have it, the print if you don't, and then mess with it for a while in Photoshop, maybe editing 4 or 5 old images an hour if you're good at it. This way is so much faster than Photoshop, or than the Topaz image apps separately. Amazing.

Finally a real-world tool for the film industry. Every time they say "Enhance!" it would be like a commercial for Topaz. 😊

I liked the make-up of your mother on the beach the most. This is simply amazing. I also have many childhood photos etc. I'll get to it. Thank you very much Mr Morganti.

I use Topaz with some frequency and I would strongly suggest that people play with it if you plan to use it on older photos. I have learned that there are times when the faces become clear but the rest almost looks worse as if it was over-sharpened to the point of breaking up the image. What I do is to work on the image a bit first knowing it will go through Topaz and at times I can add just enough info that Topaz will do the rest wonderfully. The latest Topaz has a bit more control and there is a video on KZbin (not sure where) that explains how to use these features in a manner that would also work very well for those doing photo restoration. It is sad when Topaz cleans up the face beautifully but the rest is bad and in turn it looks like the face was pasted in. This can be avoided.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally, a tutorial on scanned images which make up 90+% of the images I edit! One comment on the 5-person family image at the end: Topaz Photo AI does a great job of detecting and enhancing the faces, but on a color image one would hope it would automatically remove red-eye in the image. Topaz, are you listening?

I just started upgrading some old photos. I tried the first one, which was of my parents on their wedding day in 1950. In the original, my mother's face was quite blurry. Topaz made her face clear, and you could see the happy twinkle in her eye. It was like her face appeared out of the fog . . . and this was a photo OF the photo that I took on my phone camera.

Wow! I expected some improvements, but not to this extent. I’ve been a long time follower of your informative videos/classes but this one earns a massive ’thank you’. Cheers mate, I really do appreciate you taking the time to talk about what this program can do. I imagine it will only improve as it matures. 👍

Yeah for faces Topaz has come along way. Same with their video restoration, de Halo and de-interlace lines on old videos is mind blowing now. Just found video enhancer Can now remove interlacing lines from an already progressive video, Huh lol, incredible

I continue to get a neck ache when I see demos or actually use Photo AI because I'm constantly shaking my head at how well it performs and improves old images (which I do a lot)!!!! The pixelation on the child and her Dad at 3:40 is awful (not your fault, mind you). The improvement and smoothing is just outstanding in the final processed image. I've found the same on many shots from the 80's I have with bad scans improve in a similar manner! Thanks Anthony and THANKS TOPAZ!!!!!!
@Sunporchmedia2 жыл бұрын
Most improvements look pretty good, but the fact that the AI seems to use a library of substitutions sometimes fails. I think that the baby's mouth in the third photo is not at all the same shape as the original. Dialing down the "enhancement" level would possibly help. I've experienced similar in some very low quality photos I have tried to enhance. Eyes and mouths They look fine if you don't know what the person really looks like, but they are not necessarily accurate to the likeness of the person.

I have not used Photo AI yet, but tried Denoise AI and Sharpen AI with scanned negatives (good quality, but grain and slightly unsharp because of the scanner). Results are just not good enough and unreliable with weird artifacts. Use Neat Image for denoising and something like PhotoKit Sharpener. Topaz has a long way to go for scanned images. I hope they integrate specific presets in future..,

I've own this plugin for about a week now. It was fairly expensive, and I am more illustrator than Photographer nowadays, but it is so impressive, I had to have it. It's way more useful than your Fireflys, Generative Fills etc. and makes me think there must be some amazing Ai driven image enhance and manipulation software still to come.

I did not notice much improvements on the backgrounds.. I see the bodies and heads greatly improved but what about the grain on film that is a bit grainy? I am looking for a DeNoise that will remove film grain from negatives I have scanned .. My scanner software almost gets it but I need something to clean them up a touch more and for some reason most denoise plugins and software do not seem to see the grain as noise and hardly effect it ...

The results look great to someone who has no idea what any of the people look like in real life but in my experience (And this this the whole reason i purchased topaz photo AI) the faces you get end up looking "kinda sorta" like the actual subject but not enough. Would be nice if we could train the AI on a set of our loved ones faces. I know people will say "well then there's the possibility for ne'er do wells to abuse it" but lets be honest, that cat is out of the bag. I want to recover old cell phone pictures of loved ones from a time past and a "kinda sorta" face is not going to cut it.

Hi Anthony Great job on the old pictures of yours, but I have an old wedding photo of my wife and me, and the colour is very bad after beeing in a frame in the room for 50 years, so a brown jacket there should be black, how can I recover it ? then I will make a new print of it. Thanks, I have the old Lightroom 6, and I do not have Topaz AI, 2 , only denoise and sharpen AI.

i was insecure about what to buy Luminar or Topaz, but i think Topaz its much better what i have seen in your videos, in Photoshop the neural color converter it is very so so, it needs to be perfected,

I've started using this app for some of my old photos as well and I've noticed that it recovers faces really well, but the rest of the photo is never as recovered. is there a reason it corrects faces much more/better than the rest of the photo?

This is the first anything I've seen on AI recovery, how to use it, and I was wondering the same thing. I do some restoration and figured it would try to repair all damage.

I'm using Topaz Photo AI 1.2.0 on scanned images from the 1980's, with various numbers of people in each photo. Other than occasionally over-smoothing faces, which I can dial back and retry to adjust, my issue with the software is that it works only on faces and not the rest of the bodies in the photograph. Am I simply missing a setting or slider? Thanks.

Hi, I've been using Photo AI for many of my bird and other higher ISO shots and it works great! I've also been scanning old photos and restoring them with Photo AI and can't believe how well it works on these old images!!! Question???? Does DeNoise, Sharpen, and Gigapixel need to have the most recent product updates in order for Photo AI to work correctly or at its best????

Sometimes it changes the eye color. Some images of myself and my sister, who both have green eyes, have brown eyes in the processed images. I ve even had a couple with one blue eye and one green eye. Admittedly they were very blurry pictures with poor lighting.

Topaz is great, for faces Rimini app is the best. But would need an emulator, and to cut the faces in because its useless at restoring anything else. Good option though if there’s an image that you want the Best possible result, like the first image of your mum Theres currently nothing better i’ve been looking for now years, outside Google or Nvidia AI which isn’t released in software yet

Thanks for the demo. Very interesting but I didn't like the Photo AI faces at all. Not realistic. Too much smoothness and perfection. I didn't think they looked like real people. I would hesitate using it for old photos unless it can be dialed way back.

It created a hard edge around the pupils, which should not be there. Nobody's eyes have hard edged pupils. It didn't even look like her after the change. I reject this.

@jbr84tx Жыл бұрын
Sometimes you have to turn down the face recovery. 100% is sometimes too much. Sometimes it's better with none. Depends on the image.
