No way was this 1973, the dress code looks late 50s early 60s. Great video all the same. Times were much simpler and definitely kinder.

think this must be early sixties... remember seeing David Goode and Patsy Burt at Stapleford Hill Climb Essex....same cars in 1961

This film is of the hillclimb on 14th June 1959. The red car at 2:53 is the ERA Special of James Berry. (From MAC Archivist)

I'm amazed how things changed so quickly. This was my first year at Shelsley. By 1981 ADO was roaring up in what was basically an F1 car.

that wasn't in 1973 tho

@@matteobarsanti8139 now I watch it more closely it's obviously late 50's or early 60's. Judging that Tony Marsh has the hill record, and he's driving a BRMI would plump for 1961. No wonder there were a lot of changes !

@@artistglyn yeah hahahaha, great cars anyway, the 60's era is probably my favourite

David Boshier Jones retired at the end of the 1960 season and he features here, so the film must be 1960 or earlier.

I agree. Sydney Allard died 1966.

I'm struck by the number of fans. Had no idea hill climb was fairly well attended back then.

This looks like the British Championship round in 1959.

I think we are both right and wrong David. I got the engine wrong but the chassis is the ex Bob Gerard Cooper with the ERA engine squeezed in. In recent years the car was restored as a Cooper Bristol by Dick Crosthwaite and competes in historic races still.

1973? Chris Summers looks extremely good, considering his fatal accident at Snetterton in 1970.

I blame Raymond Mays for the twin rear wheels
