Qwame be honest. Your best advice for winning Top Chef based on history is not being a Black contestant. Seventeen seasons and no Black winners?!!! 🤨. It was not for lack of talent. Shout out to James Beard award winning chef, Nina Compton who was ROBBED in Season 11.

@@lauram8047 Laura I was INFORMED by a fan that Kevin Spraga was Hispanic. I always considered him Black. So let’s go with your premise. It is still shameful that in 17 seasons there has been only ONE Black winner. So instead of trying to lecture me about making things about race why don’t YOU open your eyes to the inequities that are obvious. I named Nina Compton, Gregory Goudart, Qwame Onwwuachi, Sylvi Senat who are ALL talented chefs who I believe lost to a less talented winner. Tom Collichio and Top Chef has had several opportunities to reward talented Black chefs with the title besides Kevin Spraga who I feel isn’t even as talented as the other chefs I named. Season 11 was especially egregious and if you follow the show and are INFORMED would remember Tom Collichio’s shameful moves during that season. Tom Collichio received much backlash when he pushed to crown Nicholas Elmi Top Chef over Nina Compton. Now this season they have FIVE Black chef contestants ( This last happened on Season 7) instead of their usual one or two and they have pulled most of their Black and brown contestants to judge to cover-up the fact that mostly white male, 3 Asian, about 4 female overall have won Top Chef. Top Chef gives plot armor to less talented chefs like Jeremy (Can’t remember his last name.) during Qwame’s season and Brooke Williamson during her second season and puts out more talented Black chefs if they make one mistake. I think Tom Collichio has manipulated this competition until it has become obvious and embarrassing. 🤨🤨🤨🤨

@@avalangrin4904 That's not true they have not lost to less talented winners. Nicholas Elmi has great success in Philladelphia and Brooke is considered a top 5 winner by many. Top Chef has been always about the food. There's a reason they have 18 seasons and never they have been questioned by the contestants. It is because they always pick fairly according to what's presented to their plates. The show have helped to improve most of the chef lifes, including many you name. It has give a platform from black excellence as Tanya Holland and african food which has become recurrent on the show. Furthermore, Greg, Nina and Qwame had appeared more times in the show that the winners of their season because the show loves them!!! The problem is NOT Top Chef, is the culinary world. That's whom you should adress at. If something, Top Chef has open many opportunities that many of this chefs never had in the first place.

This show has definitely introduced many great chefs of color to the whole country, as well as previously not as widely known African and Caribbean cuisines. Sometimes the winner could be any of the last few chefs remaining because they all have high caliber, and it's just a matter of best results of the day. We also have to talk about culture. You know cultures such as French, Chinese, Japanese have been featuring their cuisines as a fine dining experience for hundreds of years? So relatively young cuisines will need a little more time to blossom. Of course a chef doesn't need to be confined to their origins, any one could learn and master any cuisine, but imagine people who're born into a culture with a rich culinary history, their culinary sensitivity has been sharpened since they're very young, whether they're aware of it or not.
