Just to let you know: Rossini's great niece was married to an Australian and lived in Brisbane. Unknowingly, I taught their young boy Trombone at Toowong State High School. It was only after meeting his mother at a teacher/student evening that I asked him about his Italian background. He mentioned that his mother was related to Rossini! WOW, I said, let's look up the dictionary on Rossini! There was no doubt!... His mother's eyes and his resembled the characteristic eyes of Rossini. His talent on trombone was equal to his grand Uncle and he always just accepted his talent as "nothing special." However, I was fortunate enough to be part of the musical education of the trombone student related to Rossini.

The entire piece is amazing, however 14 min.-20 min. is simply masterful! I cannot get enough of it. It's unbelievable how a good piece of music can tell a story without saying any words. Just follow the rythm and read the different layers of sound. A+++++

Don't forget, the opera is just a part of Italian classical music. In the baroque and classic era Italians are the maniacs of tecnique. Thinks to Vivaldi, Corelli, scarlatti, boccherini, paradies, etc. Concerto grosso and the simphony genre are born in Italy.
