Dig and Flecitity are having a conversation with Oliver rather than a few quick comments and then storming out. This show used to be fun to watch. The later seasons were just hard to get through.

That’s two season villains out of 7. 1-3 were Dark Archer/Merlyn, Deathstroke/Slade Wilson, and Ra’s Al Ghul. Then there Damian Darke and his butchered character and messy season. Then there’s Prometheus, a Justice League level villain reduced down to a Green Arrow copy cat he had a forgetful season, the only thing good about it was the ending. Then comes Ricardo “The Dragon” Diaz’s underwhelming and forgetful season followed by The Ninth Circle? I can’t even remember what happened in season 7, that’s what I call a snooze fest. The last season was better than all the others except the first three. Arrow for the majority has terrible writing. They tried to do something new with Darke, it was terrible and so they tried picking up the pieces with season 5 by screwing up Prometheus, which to most DC fans, was god awful. Then a giant snooze fest until it’s final season. They shouldn’t have made Oliver like Batman and their writing probably wouldn’t have tanked so bad.

@@Norkkah I feel like season 3 is where the decline started. not because season 3 itself was bad, but because it's when the slippery slope of Arrow being a Batman stand-in more than actual Green Arrow started to really ramp the hell up. Ra's al Ghul was a great villain for the first half of the season especially, but that entire plot felt like it was entirely meant for Bruce Wayne. And they just never recovered from that, with Felicity even becoming paralyzed and turned into Oracle down the line (only for magic science to undo the paralysis and make it meaningless anyway lol).

@@jahnybravo2168 Yeah, I agree. The season wasn’t bad overall. Ra’s Al Ghul was done surprisingly decent enough. But yeah that’s where it began. Some might say it started with Slade but I always say Deathstroke is a “free agent” when it comes to being a villain because he seems to have been a villain for a lot of the heroes lol. They shouldn’t have made Ra’s a villain for Oliver. An appearance/cameo would’ve been good and maybe a Gotham/Batman reference and then have his younger daughter lead a team of assassins against Oliver and company. Definitely would’ve made more sense that way instead of making Oliver Queen into Bruce Wayne. After that, magic and such and such. I wished they introduced Zatanna in season 4 to help introduce magic into the Arrowverse instead of having Damian Darke do it.

It is a realistic argument between the characters though. They don't know how hellish those 5 years were, because Oliver won't share. Which is understandable considering what he went through (he should be in therapy). So they are making assumptions on what they would do or what the right thing to do is based on incomplete data. This is in contrast with the later seasons where no argument is ever realistic.

When he said the second "Five y-ears" and his voice breaks, and he summarizes literally being tortured until presumed dead repeatedly as "nothing good happened" it really showcases Stephens acting abilities and emphasizes Oliver's strength not letting everyone know the shit he went through that would make everyone feel super bad for him.

The flashbacks take a while to get to the point (and the flashbacks are perfect, this isn't a knock on the show, the flashbacks (S1-2) are perfect. Wouldn't change it) Since we don't learn stuff about him until season 5 it can seem like he's a mary sue. But he isn't. I would argue batman is a mary sue even though he earned his skills, how is able to fight gods? Idk maybe not a mary sure, just has plot armor. But Oliver idn't a mary sue but i can see how someone would think that at first glance.

Felicity wanted Oliver to tell the Lances that Sara didn’t die on the boat so they wouldn’t blame him + “they had the right to know”, but it was actually so much more considerate of Oliver to take the blame upon himself and not let them know that Sara suffered even more afterwards. Plus, they would’ve still blamed him for inviting her to go in the first place. I love Oliver :) And I felt so bad for him when he said that nothing good happened in those five years, the way he said it, it crushed me. I love his story. Too bad I’m not happy with the direction the latter seasons took.

Arrow was the show that made me realize how fan shipping can destroy a show. before that I never thought anything of it. I mean I couldn't really stand Laurel either, but at least it made sense narratively since GA and BC are supposed to be a standard couple edit: I'm also saying this as someone who was initially completely on board with Oliver+Felicity (I did mention I couldn't stand Laurel right? lmfaoo). but oh boy did "be careful what you wish for" become quickly apparent. Felicity was admittedly the perfect girl until the actual relationship started; so on the other hand, I do appreciate the lesson that any good idea can be strangled to death by bad execution. it's allowed me to separate good intentions from bad execution when judging stories 🤔

Damn dude…Arrow really peaked in season 2. Season 3 started off decently but didn’t have a strong ending. Season 4 the less said the better. Season 5 was a strong return to form especially with Prometheus. Season 6 and onwards just got too convoluted. But the one consistent positive thing about Arrow as a whole is and was Stephen Amell.
