Picture this - A lovely welsh road, My first time visiting, I didn't know there was any roads where you could drive for 20miles without turning off. Anyway - Old dear driving a Hyundai going 40 in a national. As soon as I went for the overtake, I misshifted (Could have gone alot worse - High 4th into 3rd when I wanted 5th....) She then decided to put her foot down to match my speed. The race was literally on.... I hate that woman. I still had her. But she made me really evaluate my life.

They have weak cylinder liners because they are an open deck design. They can take moderate power, anything more you need to modify the block to strengthen it and maybe swap the liners if you want to make big horsepower. It's head off and a fairly significant job but yeah, afterwards 500bhp and beyond is no problem

Great video - enjoyed that ! The 2,000 rpm tick over on cold start on the EP3 is fairly normal, supposedly to warm up the cat quickly and meet emissions. Not so great when you have a loud aftermarket exhaust, and you need to leave the house very early in the morning! The Idle Air Control Valves get gummed up over time and can lead to a surging tickover.

I'm gonna love this series, being a hot hatch lover myself. And speaking as an American, we technically got these in America, but different - The EP3 Civic Si has some slight differences. The K20A2 in the Si is down some horsepower, the Si is only a 5 speed manual, 4 lug in pre-facelift models, different body work, no LSD, the list goes on. But the EP3 body was sold in America and only as an Si, nothing cheaper or less powerful than that - The Mk.2 Focus was only sold in Sedan and Coupe variants in America with a slow 2L Duratec. But we got the Volvo C30 T5, a Volvo model running on the same platform and with the same engine as the Mk.2 Focus ST. It didn't have the cool colors of the Focus, nor was the C30 sold only in a Manual like the ST

Bought my Performance Blue ST when i was 21, owned it 6 years and transformed it from standard to around 330hp, typical Airtec on the cooler, Bola B1 wheels and all the usual vents and splitters. Sold it 2 years ago and now have a forged RS but I do miss the old girl 💙

As a former Mk1 Focus SVT (ST170 in the UK) owner and long time Honda fanboy, I've lusted after both of these cars for nearly 20 years. I'm thrilled to see them both of them on your channel, lads!

Wouldn't worry about the AFR of the Focus. The ECU logic will always try and target lambda 1 even at full load. It only starts to enrich when calculated exhaust gas temperature gets high or it starts knocking.

We didn't get that Focus in the States, but we did get the Volvo C30! It was basically the Focus ST. I had one and I loved it so much! Until it spun a bearing at 235,000 miles 😭

I got my first EP3 Type R brand new in 03, loved it. Bought a brand new Focus ST2 in 06 (it was ok) sold it after 4 months and bought a brand new pre reg 55 plate CTR Premier edition. Had way more fun in the CTR’s. To be fair, ST had just come out and there wasn’t much available at the time. Both great hot hatches.
