@@boloyung88 You can usually program a vehicle to accept a new key.... But if you want to program the key itself, that usually requires a programming dock to put the key in while it's being programed. And that programming dock does not come with this tool.

That's great to hear! The people I have dealt with a Topdon are always very helpful and very nice. And on a side note: Topdon is the ONLY company that I have ever worked with to make youtube videos that sends me a Christmas present every year. It's nothing elaborate... can cozy, stuffed teddy bear, stickers, bath towel, etc.... YES, I use an embroidered TOPDON bath towel when I get out of the shower. lolol. facebook.com/share/p/eWfqfxDQ618gv59e/ Thanks for the comment.

Is there a way to register the SN on the tool itself, I recently bought one and I can’t use any of the features without registering the tool… emailed the support line but they are closed

Hi. I obviously only had to register this tool one time so I don't remember the exact process..... but I remember thinking to myself that they have streamlined the registration process since the last time I activated a new Topdon scan tool. In fact, I don't believe I even had to enter an email address. As to your original question.... yes, the registration happens from the tool itself. You do not register the scan tool from a different computer, you do it directly from the scan tool. I wish I had more information to help you but I do not. Sorry.

Hi Brian I’m on the Market for a full system entry bi-directional scan tool for various males and models here in Europe….Iv been trying to figure out which one to but I was Adamant on purchasing the Autel MK808 but now I’m leaning towards this Topdon. What would you prefer for an enthusiastic DIYer?? Thanks Brendan
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
I get this same question almost every day. I really don't like telling people what I would prefer because I may have different wants and needs than the next person. The scan tool in this video Is terrific. If you like this tool, then you should think about buying this one. Once a scan tool is considered "full bidirectional" it will basically have the exact bidirectional functions as any other "full bidirectional" scan tool on the market. Those bidirectional functions are NOT offered specifically by the scan tool itself, ALL bidirectional functions on ALL vehicles are already written in to the vehicles computer from the factory to begin with, the scan tool is simply sending the request for any given bidirectional function. For example: If vehicle X has 22 bidirectional functions available in it's computer, then you should see all 22 bidirectional functions on the screen of ANY full bidirectional scan tool that is plugged into that specific vehicle. However, if you unplug from vehicle X, and then plug into vehicle Y, you may only see 16 bidirectional functions on the screen of ANY full bidirectional scan tool as that vehicle only has 16 bidirectional controls available from the factory. It's the vehicle that dictates the available bidirectional functions, NOT the scan tool. Now, with all that said, there is always the possibility that the software in a scan tool is not perfect and it might not be showing a specific function, or may it show the function but the function doesn't work properly, etc... These are software glitches and they happen to ALL scan tools with any make/model vehicle. Scan tool companies are ALWAYS refining and streamlining their software to remove any bug or glitches. Software updates come out on an almost daily basis throughout the year, not just once a year when the new model year vehicles come out. Anyway.... a long post just to say, buy a decent brand scan tool of your personal preference. They are all pretty good these days and they continually get better every day with software updates. Most scan tool companies are pretty good about responding to customer issues, and once a fix has been found, it gets pushed out to all scan tools from that brand in the form of software updates. Sorry for the long answer. Thanks for the question.

@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
This "level" of scan tool IS capable of what you're asking about. However, individual functions vary from make/model to make/model. Just because this stool can "do" something on one vehicle does not mean it can "do" that same function on all vehicles. It all depends on which features and functions the software engineers from the automotive manufacturers have programmed into the vehicle's computer. For example: if they programmed the ability for a scan tool to command AC temp control, then yes, this tool will command AC temp control. However, if that features is not programmed into the factory computer to begin with, then the scan tool (ANY scan tool) has nothing to command. You can't command something that doesn't exist in the first place. Thanks for the question.

I was wondering regarding subscriptions, what functions will stop working if i don't pay for the subscription. I've read in a different review that people had their tool bricked right after the subscription date was passed. if this tool becomes useless after no license is applied then its not worth the money.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 4 ай бұрын
I own MANY scan tools from all different brands.... I have NEVER had a single scan tool turn into a brick because I chose to not buy future updates. NOT ONE. Who told you that??? NONE of the functions stop working after the subscription runs out on 99% of the vehicles on the road today. You just won't get future updates. This includes not only vehicle make/model updates, but it also includes any device firmware updates, too. All updates will come to an end if you do not elect to renew a subscription after the "free" period ends. However, there is ONE exception to this..... and this exception is VEHICLE DEPENDENT, not scan tool dependent..... On some NEW vehicles, made within the last 2 or 3 years, SOME vehicles require the scan tool to be connected to "the cloud" in order for most bidirectional functions to work properly. This cloud connection requires an active scan tool subscription for everything to work properly. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT OF SOME NEW VEHICLES, regardless of scan tool brand. It's the car to blame for this, NOT the scan tool. So, for example, if you're working on a 2014 Chevy truck, and your scan tool has an expired subscription, the tool will work at 100% of it's ability. On the other hand, if you're working on my 2022 KIA K5, the scan tool needs an active subscription to connect with the "cloud" in order to do pretty much anything other than simply read trouble codes. With the two vehicles I just mentioned, the scan tool with an expired subscription works 100% on the Chevy truck, but probably only 10% on the KIA K5. Same scan tool, different vehicle requirements. If you're not planning to work on new stuff, then it's not really a problem. If you are working on the really new stuff, you will need to have an active subscription to work on a lot of the new cars being sold today. Regardless of scan tool brand. It's the way the industry s going. You soon wont have an option to not renew your subscription if/when working on the new stuff. If you're just working on the older stuff, then you have nothing to worry about. And lastly, the tool doesn't actually "brick". It's still a functional android tablet. If these tools really did "brick" then they would even turn on, and that's not the case at all. Autel and XTOOL have completely "open" android tablets. Meaning.... they can literally be used as an android tablet, just like any other android tablet. (or android cell phone for that matter) The scan tool software is just an APP, just like any other APP. Topdon and Launch also use android as the operating system, but they block (or try to block) the tool's ability to function like a generic android tablet. Thanks for the question.

Which functions besides cloud necessary for specific vehicles will be lost if not paying subscription after 2 years? If replacing keys using t-ninja, ecu coding etc will be gone, than it will become essentially 50£ obd reader? Is there a similar capability bidirectional tool that will continue to work as advertised after 2 years?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
The short answer is... none! The long answer is.... Every scan tool that I have reviewed in the last 5+ years continues to function at 100% of it's current software level after the free update period has ended. The ONLY exception is for new vehicles that now require a cloud connection.... and that is NOT the fault of the scan tool. That is 100% the vehicle's fault. We can't blame scan tools for that. I'm really not sure how the general consensus among potential scan tool buyers is that scan tools stop working after the update period ends because that is simply not true. In fact, I specifically go out of my way in most of my scan tool videos to specifically mention the tool will continue to work. (I may have missed that point in a few earlier videos) In this particular video I covered this specific topic at the 2:55 mark. Thanks for the question.

Can it do a simple fuel composition reset on a 2008 impala flex fuel
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
I cover this exact function at the 13:47 mark in the video. If it can reset fuel composition on my 2006 GMC truck, then I see no reason why it wouldn't reset the fuel composition on your 2008 Chevy Impala. All GM flex fuel vehicles from that era, that were built WITHOUT a alcohol content sensor had this reset function written into their computer. (ECM/PCM) It's a very common problem and most "DECENT" bidirectional control scan tools have this ability. Only the very low end "bidirectional" scan tools do not have it. The cheap "bidirectional" scan tools do indeed have bidirectional controls, but they are usually missing a bunch or "relearn" and "reset" procedures. The tool in this video CAN do what you're looking for. I even showed this particular function IN the video. Thanks for the question.

@@aricp3764 Cool! Most of the mid-level tools do indeed have that ability nowadays, especially after the big Autel update that happened last summer, which caused ALL other scan tool manufacturers to update their tools to keep with with competition. I'm not sure who you emailed, or what models you were specifically asking about but there is a GREAT chance that low-level customer service has no idea what the real answer is. I see this all the time where low level customer service gives out bad/wrong information. This can be true with all scan tool brands. It's unfortunate, but true. Glad to hear that you finally found what you're looking for. Thanks for the comment.

So I'm now needing to start over for a new one thay suits my needs. Dont get me wrong the topdon artidiag is a great tool and can do most cars just not mines.😢
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 11 ай бұрын
I assume you're looking to change the mileage on the cluster? Is that what you're looking to do? Keep in mind, it's possible that the scan tool is not the problem. It's possible that the computer in the car is not programmed to allow the mileage to be reprogrammed by a scan tool...... meaning ANY scan tool. If this scan tool can't do what you're looking for, then it's possible that NO other scan tool will give you better results. Keep in mind, EVERY feature and function that a scan tool is capable of doing is already programmed into the vehicle's computer from the factory. If the software engineers at the factory did not program the ability to change mileage with a scan tool into the vehicle's computer, then NO scan tool will be able to do that for you. If it were me, I would verify that my car has the ability to allow a scan tool to change the mileage, first..... if so, then shop for the appropriate scan tool. Maybe an XTOOL scanner? Thanks.

This is an OBDII scan tool. OBDII tools are designed to work on any 1996 and newer vehicle sold in north America. With that said.... don't expect the exact same functionality on a 1996 Chevy truck as you would get (with this same tool) while plugged into a 2022 Chevy truck. (for example) The scan tool is only as sophisticated as the vehicle that you're currently plugged into at any given time. Scan tools don't really "do" anything by themselves. They simply send commands and read data to/from the computer in the vehicle.... If a specific command or data PID is not programmed into a vehicle's computer from the factory, then a scan tool (any scan tool) will NOT be able to send that command, or read that data. The tool is only as good as the computer in the vehicle.... and vehicles have come a LONG way in the last 28 years, to say the least. lol. So yes, this tool SHOULD (will) work on 2000 and up model years..... to some extent, anyway. I say "SHOULD" because there is always exceptions to the rule with scan tools. Even the most expensive Snap on scan tools will have exceptions. (glitches in software) Thanks for the question.

I bought the artidiag900 bt and I’m very confused how I can do Odometer correction on vehicles. I have tried older Jeep, older Toyota and new dodge since nothing is connecting . I have the auto auth account and still no way to connect to the POS Odo correction
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 6 ай бұрын
Honestly, in my opinion, "odometer correction" should not be included in any scan tool. The need to HONESTLY "correct" the mileage happens very rarely. And it's FAR to easy for used car scammers to lower the mileage to increase a used car's value. Not to mention, it's very illegal. The last time I needed to genuinely change the mileage on an odometer was in 1994 on a Ford F350. Nowadays you can usually get your existing gauge cluster repaired and sent back to you within a few days which makes "correction" irrelevant. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you don't have a genuine reason for needing "odometer correction". However, it's strange to me that questions about "odometer correction" are some of THE MOST common questions I get in all of my scan tool videos. To directly and honestly answer your question.... I have no idea how to do it. I've never needed it, so I've never looked for it. It's probably under the "instrument cluster" module, then it's probably an "actuation test" or "special function". But please keep in mind, it CAN probably be found in different locations depending upon which year/make/model that you're plugged into. And lastly, it depends if the vehicle manufacturer has programmed the ability to let the mileage be changed by a scan tool into the vehicle's computer software to begin with. If the computer in the car doesn't have that ability programmed into it, then no scan tool on earth can perform that function..... which is the same for any other feature or function. Scan tools only send commands to the vehicle's computer, it's the computer that is actually performing these commands. Thanks for the question.

It really comes down to which one do you like the looks of better? Which one do you think has the better graphical user interface? (screen and menu layout) Which one has a better storage case? Which one has more included accessories, Which one comes with an included 12+8 adapter cable for 2018 and newer FCA vehicles, Etc, etc. By the way, I notice after filming was finished that I missed showing the included power cord to be used in conjunction with the north American charging brick. I honestly cannot answer your question because I have never used the AD900BT..... but if I had to guess, I'd say the AD900BT and the ArtiDiag Pro are very similar to each other. Probably not much difference other than physical design.... but I can't say with 100% certainty. Thanks.

Great video Brian - I am looking at my first scanner, checked out the AD800BT as well which includes 6 years of updates at no charge, trying to decide between the two, not sure what the differences are. Question - Do these scanners clear history codes as well? I have a Silverado that I just put wider tires on and while checking for clearance I had to turn to full lock several times and hold it there which triggered an error code - Driver Assist is Reduced, which I have heard is an issue with GM that keeps it displayed as a current code even if it is a history code. Thanks. Dan

Can you program keys with this?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 10 ай бұрын
Depending on the vehicle, you can usually program the vehicle to accept a new key..... but programming the actual key itself requires a programming dock for the key to sit in while being programmed and software to program "keys". This can tool can program cars to accept new keys. However, this is 100% dependent upon the vehicle itself. Not all vehicles are the same. Thanks.

This or the otofix d1 lite?
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
I get this exact question all the time and I really can't answer it. What I want and need in a scan tool may be different than your wants and needs. What I think is good, you may not like as well as me. I never want to be the guy who TOLD someone to buy a certain item and the customer ends up not liking it..... then I'm the bad guy. Both this tool and the OTOFIX D1 Lite are great tools. Both of them will basically have the exact same functionality when plugged into the exact same vehicle. (comparing apples to apples) It really comes down to which one has better live data graphing, or which one has a longer free update period, etc, etc.... It's not like one of these tools can "do more" than the other one. Do your own personal research between the two tools and then pick the one that YOU like best. Thanks for the question. Sorry I was not more specific. I'm sure you understand...

Imo I say the d7 is the better bargain, this topdon $249 a year after 2 years vs the xtool d7 $99 a year after 3 years.

@south park Absolutely.... I have said it many times in the comment section under several different videos... The D7 is the sweet spot right now for scan tools. It has the most functionality for the least amount of money. 👍

@@SlipFitGarage Thanks. I've been looking all over the Internet for this info. I was going to send a D7 I received this week back to get the D8 or other similar scantool. Maybe the one you reviewed here. On paper this one is impressive but so are others then I read or see a video showing they don't live up to the specs.

Which one is more user friendly and to navigate for at home DIY guys like me? Topdon artidiag pro or the xtool D7? I have 2018 Chevy Colorado and 2022 Subaru Forester will this topdon pro cover these vehicles? I'm worried about getting one or the other to find out it will not cover my vehicles😊

All scan tools sold today are designed to work on ALL OBD2 vehicles, which is anything sold in north America from 1996 through today. With that said, not all scan tools work "great" on all makes/models. Some scan tools work better on certain makes, and some scan tools don't work so good on certain makes. Either tool mentioned should work just fine on the vehicles that you talked about. Both are good scan tools. Pick one that YOU like best and enjoy knowing that you have a capable scan tool. Thanks for the question.

Is this scan tool calibrate / re-learn FCA ecu module e.g ABS module after replacement?

I honestly can't answer that question because I've never tried that function with this tool on FCA vehicles. You're better off asking Topdon that question directly. Thanks.

I have a Launch scanner and I can tell that this is their exact clone. From what I heard, TOPDON AutoAuth function doesn't actually work because it's a bootleg version of Launch software and it's not authorized by the car makes. Also, the Images option is not for taking pictures, it's for storing screenshots
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
So you're saying the AutoAuth function doesn't work because its a copy of the Launch software...... But yet the Launch AutoAuth works just fine? You're also the first guy to claim the AutoAuth does not work in the comment section of any Topdon scan videos of mine. This is the very fist time I have heard that. Weird. I also have a launch scanner and I do see some similarities between this Topdon and the Launch, but I would NOT say it's an exact clone. Or should I say, I do not see everything as being identical between the two so therefore I would not call it "an exact clone". Images is a place where images are stored. The can be from just about any source.

After two years, you pay more than half again for a new years vehicle upgrade. robbery.
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage 4 ай бұрын
First, You don't have to renew.... the tool will keep working at it's current software level. Second, ALL scan tool manufacturers are this way, it's not like one brand is "robbing" people and the others are not. It's the entire industry. Third, it's an electronic device, just like your smartphone. They don't physically last forever. By the time you REALLY need to renew your software, it's probably time for a new scan tool anyway. Lastly, of course they have the re-new pricing set to make it more attractive to buy a new scan tool rather than just buy a software update. These companies sell scan tools. They make the majority of their profit by selling new scan tools.... not by selling updates. These are private companies that are in business to MAKE money, not break even. If you owned the company, you would try to make as much money as the market would bare, too. Right? The overall price of scan tools has been slowing coming down over the last 6-8 years since I started making scan tool videos...... while simultaneously the amount of included features, functionality, and overall quality has been going up. Subscription renewal prices have always been ridiculous. Just my $0.02

I agree. It's silly. All of these scan tool companies charge a high subscription fee..... They would rather sell new scan tools, than subscription renewals. New scan tools come with 1 to 3 year subscriptions included. (depending the brand and model) If you're not a full time tech and/or you only work on older vehicles, then you likely don't need a current subscription.

I just bought min3 was wondering you wondering if it could read wastegate voltage? Trying to adjust my optima wastegate @brianok100
@SlipFitGarage
@SlipFitGarage Жыл бұрын
If waste gate voltage is a normal data PID on the make/model that you're working on, then yes it should show that data. However, I do not believe this tool (or any scan tool) will allow you to make permanent changes to the factory engine parameters. That would be considered a custom tune. Scan tools are not custom tuners. I had trouble understanding your question... was my answer what you were looking for? Thanks.
