Thanks for this video. I will definitely be buying this. I have a nice used rode bike with no rack mounts, and I have never felt good about the idea of weighing it down with a rack or using an eyeletted seatpost clamp. This is awesome. Thanks again.

Great Review, thanks! I'm not sure if i should go for 10L oder 15L. Is the 15L stable enough when half filled? I feel like 15L gives me more options for additional stuff, even if i carry less than 10L most of the time. But if 15L can't handle 5-10L I would go for 10L. What do you think?:)
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 4 жыл бұрын
I definitely would go always with the big one. It's collapsable and stable once the straps have been tightened correctly. I often use the bag around 50% and I can't see any issue due to that. One scenario I could imagine is when you want to go a certain route and you really want to cut weight and everything is planned in detail so you know exactly that at no point you need to add something to the bag a smaller size could be better. But for the normal bikepacking guy the option adding more to the bag at some point is great value to me.

Does the bag swing around a lot when you drive standing up in comparison to other brands?
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 4 жыл бұрын
I can not tell in comparison to other products because I only do have this one. It's strongly dependent on how much the bag is maxed out and how tight an compact the bag is packed. Good packing strategy and good weight distribution in combination with neat fastening of the straps reduce swinging a lot. But you definitely feel the load whilst out of the saddle pedaling. The lower the cadence the lower the swing. Cheers

How about stand up cycling up the hill ? Is it shake a lot ?
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 6 жыл бұрын
good question. it has a natural pendulum effect that you can get rid of to a certain point. But you wont get rid of it at all. In terms of minimizing its up to your packing strategy. I did my first ride and it felt really bad. The day after with the experience in mind I put the heavy parts close to the seatpost and made a really snug wrap with the straps. It felt better immediatly. Summing up. You will always have pendulum effect when out of the saddle but you can reduce it by packing smart and tight.

how high does the seat need to be to be able to fit the bag? I am not very tall so my seat post is not that high

If you want to go on a road oriented bikepacking adventure trip its a real good Option. Value for Money is very good. You dont have to spend more money for a Ortlieb or apidura one. If you want to go longer 2-3weeks i believe a rack Setup is the better option. Cheers :)

How much kilograms it can hold?
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 2 жыл бұрын
according to the official information given by Topeak, the bag in all three available sizes can carry loads up to 5 kg. I wouldn't worry so much about exceeding the advised max weight in terms of the bag's durability. The bag is very rugged however too much weight could result in a collapse of the bag's shape. But if you keep the heavy parts as close as possible to the seat post and light, voluminous stuff further away, you could get away with more than 5 kg I suspect. Cheers

Thank you very much for this video and review. I've got interested in this bag, as I've been looking for a better solution than a seatpost pannier rack, which I used last season. I'm only afraid about the wiggle/pendulum effect. How about touching the bag with your thighs? No issue?
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 5 жыл бұрын
Hey there and your welcome. Pendulum can be an issue if you don’t stick to a proper way of filling up the bag. Besides thorough packing, tightening up the bag with the straps and buckles is also very important means getting the load as tight as possible to your seat. And also doing that on regular base i.e. while a coffee stop or break. Then if these things are alright you get rid of annoying pendulum effects and you won’t notice the bag at all except the additional weight, I really was shocked sometimes how you forget the extra load according to handling of the bike. It will be quite similar. In terms of contact with my legs I can say that this is no problem at all due to the build of the bag. Close to the seat post its shape keeps always the same thanks to the hard-shell internal structure. So even if you stuff in real tight, I experienced no additional bulging in this region means no contact or interaction between legs and bag.

@@Velodicted Hi again, I came across with one more question. When not filled in completely, is there any problems with compressing the bag into a smaller one?
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 5 жыл бұрын
even if it's empty you can go really tiny with this bag. You can roll it up until the hard shell begins. But to this point you can roll it to a small package and adjust the traps according to that. @@bartekkalisz504

from the upper seatclamp edge up to the metallic bolt under the saddlerails its 16cm, so you have a reference. I hope that was the answer you was looking for. If not don't hesitate to ask again to clearify your question. Best regards

This looks good when static, but speaking of pendulum effect, what does it feel like on the ride? I am playing with the idea of exchanging my backpack to this saddle bag and unload my shoulders therefore. I will definitely have to use it up fully, because I have to carry the cycle cover (to take it on the plane), a pair of slippers, a pair of t-shirts, a repair kit, and I'm not sure if an SLR camera will also fit it).

Hey there, up to this point i have ridden several commutes around 60km and a three-day trip with 600km. If you want to go very fast and put in lots of torque into the pedals yes it will wiggle a bit. But if you ride moderate as I did over the 600 K's (25kmh avg) there were no issues in terms of pendulum. It really is a matter of how nice you pack the internals. You must pack them tight and the way heavy pieces first. And furthermore, you have those straps and you should really tighten them. on my three-day trip I sometimes have forgotten that I got it in the rear that was surprising. What limits your capacity is the water bag inside. It’s not that big. But once that one is filled you have plenty of empty space in the bag where you can put further pieces. Cheers and good luck I hope that was a bit useful

@@Velodicted Thanks for the elaborate answer. I travelled to Armenia and Georgia last summer, and I had a saddle rack console. But I had to use flexible bands with metal hooks to keep the cycle cover steady, and the airport security said that the mands may be used as a weapon to choke someone. What's more disappointing is that I was carrying a homemade walnut marmelade which I could put in a bag and attach to my bicycle, but I had to trash it at the scanner. Not to mention the weight of the metal console (it is stiff though)
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 5 жыл бұрын
sorry for the marmalade that is unfortunate :(. Yes, in terms of weight the backloader is a good option. For extended trips I believe the amount of carriage you can get with isn't appropriate. I was thinking of getting a lightweight rear rack and two ortlieb bags or something similar for extended trips. This kind of setup however is a whole different riding experience. If it comes to riding-oriented bike tours where you really want to eat into distances over the day the backloader I think is the better option. @ Vlas Trunov

@@Velodicted what about off-road, like with a sleeping bag on a bikepacking trek?
@Velodicted
@Velodicted 5 жыл бұрын
ric vegas so far, I only tried it "on road" but as far as I can imagine there won't be any significant difference off road. Relating to the sleeping bag, if it's a compact one i guess the backloader is a good choice or more in general the saddleback type of storage. Those units are meant to carry huge volumes with lesser mass, spare clothing and sleeping bags, in comparison to a frame bag e.g. where you would put heavy items in. Cheers Velodicted
