I don't care how much the chute costs, if that was me. At that point, and I mean like right when it started to rag doll him, the knife is coming out. Like the one guy also had to cut away his main chute so that he could open his reserve. This makes it seem like all skydivers should carry a knife with serrated blade. Similar to what you want for cutting a seat belt if needed. Pretty much can't find a folding pocket knife without a half serrated blade now. Manufacturers think it looks cool.

I’m a pilot. There’s certain areas that are designated for skydiving to keep other aircraft away. Since two planes were dropping off skydivers at the same time and same area it makes a mid air collision more likely. Not all planes have a radar to see other traffic.
@bruhman53855 ай бұрын
Can't remember the name, but this is a serious phenomenon that happens to drivers 2 cars colliding in empty desert 2 boats colliding in vast ocean 2 men bumping eachother on empty alley It happens because BOTH drivers try to dodge at the same time: "Ok I'm gonna dodge left" "Fuck he's going left too, I need to go right" "Fuck he also changed for right I need to go left, hurry!!!" As a result, both vehicules ends up returning to original trajectory and go boom That's because it's counterintuitive to "not change MY trajectory and hope the other one will change HIS", our brains aren't really designed to respond to an iminent threat by freezing if we can evade

It is possible that the jump planes were flying a formation load, ie, two Cessnas, each with four skydivers will fly in close formation inorder for the jumpers to complete an eight way. Some info about the five numbered ones... #5 - The harness was properly adjusted to begin with but the way she fell in the door (not shown in this compilation) let her slip out a bit. Harnesses have been redesigned to prevent this. #4 - Arm severed from spine is a stupid thing to say...but the skydiver did suffer enough nerve damage that he lost the arm. #3 - An issue with the way the rig was manufactured caused the snag preventing proper deployment & cutaway. That manufacturer has redesigned the rig to prevent that type of malfunction in the future. #2 - They didn't almost hit a plane...the plane almost hit them. That plane is the one they jumped out of, the pilot was trying to get back to the ground as soon as possible. #1 - The video says 6 skydivers but there were actually 9 (4 in one plane, 5 in the other). Everyone survived...all 9 jumpers got out & away, the pilot bailed out of the plane that lost the wing, the other pilot was able to land safely.

I don't buy your explanation on #3. Looks like a bad cutaway, either left-right pull instead of right-left or simultanious left and right pull in a panicked situation. There's nothing for a main to snag on with the three ring release and with proper sequencing a reserve can never get near the main. You have some specific info about this? What I see on the vid is when the reserve is deployed there's no tension on the lines which means he was still fully attached to his main and not just a snag. My bet is he pulled his reserve first right into his main and then cutaway the main of course at that point the main gets snagged in whatever mess that's created.

I joined an Army National Guard Airborne unit years ago. The company of almost 200 men and women had jumped from a C141 the year before at the start of their 2 week training. It was a night jump. The Air Force personnel that ran the jump from the aircraft F'ed up and had them beginning their jump when they were halfway into the drop zone. Almost the entire company landed in an area covered with huge rocks and trees. The First Sargent was one of the last to be discharged from the Army with a medical disability. He could not walk without a cane. He said you could hear bones breaking like popcorn popping. Over 100 people in the company were medically discharged with permanent, physical injuries! I made 5 jumps to qualify, 3 from Huey's, 1 C130, and 1 C141. Then I was made net control station (NCS) operator of ground communications for jumps (when one was needed) as I was the only person in the entire battalion who had experience working as an NCS operator of radio net, outside of a training classroom. I was very happy with that, not having to jump.

My one and only jump in 1984 was very similar to 1:15 minus the injuries. It was a static line jump with modified military chute from a Cessna 172. It had same type flip up door and step platform bolted to the landing gear. Had a good exit at 3000 feet off the platform after climbing out and a good opening. Was aiming for a target in the grass near the runway and was about to bullseye the landing when a sudden wind gust came when I was about 100-125 feet up. It caught me good and no toggling helped so it put me right over the paved runway. I landed with the proper form but hit very hard and why I didn't break anything I'll never know. Nothing broken but I had to see a chiropractor a few days later. I was 36 years old at the time. I was the first one out of the plane but the 2nd guy out had a bad landing. I was picking up my chute after checking myself over when I saw him land poorly and not get up. I dropped my chute, ran over, and he was really screaming because he had shattered both ankles. On the second plane load a jumper had his reserve chute deploy when they opened the door but they fortunately contained it and decided to land. I was going to make a second jump that day but promised my wife if the whole deal looked like a cluster fuck I wouldn't jump. I did get the 1st jump in but decided not to do a second. That was the end of my parachuting adventure. I'm now about to celebrate my 75th birthday and sometimes when I think back on it I wonder what the hell was I ever thinking. Oh, I almost forgot. My buddy who talked me into the whole deal landed in the trees. Bad day.

I and two others had to take a morning of lessons on the ground to become versant in all 'what if...' situations, and to practice where to put our various arms and legs on the exit. We used a mock up plane on the ground. My girl was bored waiting for me, so when she was offered a tandem jump, she said yes, on her own dime. It's too bad I was not ready to settle down for the long haul. That girl was a keeper.

The most exciting thing I've ever done..Static line, first jump over Wisconsin. The scariest part was climbing out of the Cessna and hanging on the wing support bar before letting go. 90 + knot winds and a bar too big to get your fingers around, you'd feel like you want to climb back in, but there's no turning back.. would do it again though 😊

At least you had a step... When I went the first time, there was just the door. Because of that, as I went out (sideways to the wind of course), the wind hit my head and torso first, causing me to start spinning to the right, twisting the lines. It wasn't a huge problem because they were simple twists and I was at 3000 feet. Oh, and the "one-way" radio they gave us didn't work at all, but they had a huge pivoting arrow on the ground we could look down and and head that direction, so it all worked out. Lastly, they told us ahead of time that we wouldn't be able to tell them the color of our parachute. Yeah right. Did my jump, turned in the chute, and the guy asked me the color. SOB... I couldn't tell him. Funny thing is that I remembered later, but yeah, it's sensory overload.

Ivan Lester McGuire Skydiving Accident (video is online if you search for it) Back Story: On April 5, 1988, Ivan Lester McGuire was filming an instructor and first-time student as they skydived from above 10,500 feet. Ivan had jumped two times previously this same day. He carried with him the heavy VHS deck and recording equipment in a backpack, which was connected to a special voice-activated helmet to record the jump. After jumping and filming the other skydivers briefly, he reached down to deploy his parachute only to discover he had forgotten to wear one. It is believed that the heavy recording equipment and fatigue made him unaware that he was not equipped for the jump; he was a veteran jumper, having jumped hundreds of times previously. He had allegedly forgotten the parachute on the second jump of the day as well and had to be alerted to this by the others upon entering the plane--the pilot is always supposed to check for parachutes but may have mistaken the camera equipment for one. The camera records for a little time as he plummets, but cuts out before the actual impact. The videotape and recording equipment was severely damaged upon impact and the film had to be spliced back together. The footage made its way to a local news station (possibly to help repair it) and was subsequently aired.

My brother and I went to Green County Airport in Georgia to see about learning to skydive many many moons ago. The first jump I saw was a woman making her first free fall jump. I watched her with the binoculars. And watched and watched. But there was no deployment of the chute. She had pulled the rip cord and turned it loose before all the pins came out and was desperately trying to grab the cord handle again. She finally deployed her reserve and got a full canopy at tree top level (the canopy was at tree top level not her). She was OK. She probably has nightmares about it some 45 years later. @@evilseedsgrownaturally1588 Skydiving is actually extremely safe if done right. You have a way higher chance to die from a car accident than skydiving. Do you know how extremely rare it is for both chutes to malfunction the way they did in the 3rd clip? roughly 1 in >1000, so for both chutes to fail, that would be one in over a million and still he didn't suffer serious injuries. It's all about perceived danger (fear) vs actual danger. You don't really see the danger while driving when you get used to it but all it takes is one drunk driver, one wrong decision or an impatient person and you might lose your life. There's even a compulsory safety mechanism that deploys your parachute automatically when you reach a certain altitude. Skydiving is a great way for people to overcome irrational fear. I know that you're not a skydiver and you're reacting like the ignorant you are with all due respect (ignorant meaning the lack of knowledge that you have on this matter, and by the way I am a skydiver) she was strapped in correctly, what happened here was that the old lady tried to hold on to the plane and she wouldn't let go, there's the complete video where you can see that, by doing that she unlocked herself from her instructor's harness as they started falling, her instructor jumped according to plan and following the flight line, the plane is still moving forward and in order to jump and land on the dropzone they have to do it quickly, long story short it was her fault, thank god they landed safely.

I did one solo skydive after a days training from 3,000ft. The shute is a static line, rather like the old war films and is connected to a line that pulls the cord as you leave the plane. The shute opened ok but the lines were twisted when it opened, we were taught to spin to undo it and this worked. I then gripped the risers (or toggles) and by luck more than intent executed a perfect landing, the strange thing was at the time I think back I wasn't all that worried. Before we jumped we were all given a number and a small receiver so we could take instructions from the ground, unfortunately the second person refused to jump so the second person to jump was really number 3. the man on the ground didn't know this and kept calling to number 2 (not 3) to tack into the wind as they were heading to a river, thankfully he was ok. This was in the UK at Headcorn 1993.

I actually witnessed a parachuting accident. I remember a very petite young woman getting her chute adjusted and her jokingly saying “ make sure you get it right”. Watched her climb aboard the plane and when it got to altitude I saw a small object leaving the plane. No chute deployed and watched as the object fell to earth. Fortunately for us trees obscured where she landed. The plane circled the area where she landed and in the distance you could hear a siren from a volunteer fire company. Will never forget that day.

Number 3 was so easily avoidable. I'm a skydiver, 950 jumps, 3 years, one reserve. You first cutaway with right side handle (usually a velcro attached small red cushion) and THEN you pull reserve left side handle (unless you use a skyhook system in which the cutaway main pulls out the reserve). This guy, in a panick, either pulled left first and then right or he pulled both at once and then you get shit like he had. Also, initially he didn't have a double malfunction, he had line twist which is a fairly regular occurance and not really that big of an issue unless you can recover from it in time. Number 2 is what is called "sharking", the pilot dives his plane down, in this case this is a pilatus porter (it's known to be able to dive as fast as a skydiver can fall), and then usually carves around the falling skydiver which makes for some great footage. But usually the plane carves around at some distance, at least 100ft. This was a serious misjudgement from the pilot. Btw, most skydive accidents and deaths happen under a perfectly functioning parachute (mid air collision, collisions against ground objects, low turn, bad landings).

One day, he did a jump and had a very hard landing. He got up, picked up his parachute and walked back to the packing shed half a mile away to pack his parachute for another jump and it was only when he was packing his chute that he realized that he'd broken his leg!
