When I lived in Shanghai, I got to see Kusama Yayoi's installation with the Infinity Rooms and polka dot rooms, and it really was a magical experience. I have a whole set of photos from the exhibit on my flickr page, and it's true that pictures really don't do it justice, but I think I captured a few of them pretty well. It was one of the coolest art installations I've ever seen. (The other was Yoko Ono's "Touch Me" installation in Chelsea in '07/'08--the interactive wall and polaroid images she generated from it were next-level awesome.) :)

Considering her "artwork" included used condoms & tampons scattered amongst the trash at the bottom of that smelly bed, leaves one pondering... how & why is anyone throwing tens of millions away to own such a cringe inducing object?

With the last presentation of the shark that is now a new shark the answer would be both yes and no. Some time ago sculptures were cast from the molds made by a sculptor who was deceased. The question was put to a few art students. Is this the art of the deceased artist or is it someone else's art? In that case I thought it is both. It is also the work of the artist who made the molds and the work of the artist who caste the sculpture. Then we must ask, If rabbit was designed by one person but made by some one else who is the artist? When AI assists in the presentation of art who is the artist or is it a collaboration?

Some of this "art" is literally garbage... The rest of it I just consider garbage. Except the infinity rooms. Imagine having $90M to waste...

I am amazed at what people will spend millions of dollars on . I guess they have more money than they have common sense.

You can pull of the illusion of "deep/hidden meaning" with anything apparently if you are confident enough in your "art."

They only have more money than sense if investing in the art seriously affects their finances enough to bankrupt them. Usually, if they have millions to spare, their investment cements the art's reputation.

Guernica by Picasso...is the only one listed here that I would recognise as being a true work of art...it has all the raw horror of destruction and senselessness of war...it has in some parts of the piece, crushed glass to give it texture and additional depth. Salvador Dali must be given an honourable mention...but not for the piece mentioned here, clever as it is.

My cat leaves much more creative & beautiful "artwork" haphazardly laid out in the litter box. Hmmm I think I'll aim for $90 mil? sounds pretty good to me as it's far more pleasing to the eye than say, "my bed" or "helter skelter". Any takers?

Agreed! What a load of overrated visual garbage.

The art is persuading others to pay lots for your work. Good luck with that litter box.
