They kill whoever suspects their activities or even remotely attempts to investigate the Forsworn situation. Most of the unrest in Markarth is due to them keeping Madanach alive, who in turn simply resumes his activities, so much for the "best prison" title I guess.

What the fuck is this comment? Balgruuf himself stated that he was on the side of Whiterun, when asked about which side he prefers. Furthermore, he eventually continues to say that he indeed might owe both his loyalty to the Empire AND allegiance to the Nord people as they fight for Skyrim's independence, but he also proceeds to say only the time will tell which side he would pick, but that day has not come yet, thus confirming his neutrality and him only caring about the safety and security of his hold and subjects. He cares about his peopl, as evident in the numerous in game dialogue. He is actually the embodiement of honour and tradition, not for having a huge statue of Talos in the middle of the city and a loud preacher, but for indirectly, but explicitly roasting Ulfric and pointing out the dude's hypocrisy by sending his own axe to Ulfric, which is a tradition. Should I also mention the fact that he respects the Greybeards, unlike Ulfric who betrayed their trust and broke a sacred oath, and even guides the Dragonborn on their quest to defeat Alduin?

@@deiansalazar140 Honestly, there's a lot of comparisons that can be made between former president Trump and Ulfric Stormcloak, both are flawed men that care about their countries to a point of being fairly nationalistic, both are/were the underdogs in a situation where absolutely nobody thought they could win (either against an empire or a candidate that everyone expected to win just like her husband) yet they managed to pull it off, both are accused of being racist yet both have people of all races (and in Ulfric's case species) supporting them. Neither individual is even close to perfect but personally I find myself siding with both over a dying empire or a coalition of career politicians that have done nothing to help the U.S in their decades of being in positions of power.

What you see in gameplay is heavily restricted due to the game engine. Keep in mind Mirak left a permanent scar on the continent of solstheim while fighting another dragon Priest and a bunch of dragons at once. And that was when he was much weaker than he was when the dragonborn fought him

The Empire has no shortages of recourses, why do they have any laws if they're just gonna act like mafias anyway? Bethesda actually cut out an alternate option during the Stormcloak side where during the "Give Balgruuf Ulfric's Axe" sequence, you have to intervene during the deliberation at the right time and successfully convince him to side with Ulfric. Provided you have the proper persuasion perks invested and speech level is ample enough. The mod is called Jarl Balgruuf Dilemma.

I always wondered why it's always Stormcloaks and Imperials fighting each other across Skyrim. The Jarls are very clearly at war with each other, except Balgruuf before Ulfric forces his hand. You'd expect to see hold troops fighting at the borders. Like Dawnstar and Morthal soldiers fighting each other.

Because most of those jarls don't have the troops to make offensive actions. Especially places like morthal and dawnstar. If they made a move without any backing from either side, it could easily leave them defenseless. Most of the jarls are more concerned about a local threat, forsworn, dragons, etc. That they'd rather wait for the large armies to do something. Plus, I'm sure that many stormcloaks and imperials in skyrim are hold guards loaned to whatever power rules over them as was common in medieval times.

@@isoulz8076 You have to look at it from the Captain's perspective. They brought in 2 carts full of Stormcloaks, including *THE* Ulfric Stormcloak. There were also 2 people with them who didn't wear Stormcloak uniforms and say they aren't with them, but they were still caught together. This could very easily indicate that they are spies, either a Stormcloak one or a foreign one, both of which would be a very big problem if left alive. If they actually aren't with the Stormcloaks and were just at the wrong place at the wrong time, they are still criminals trying to illegally cross the border (in an area that could easily be called an active warzone). The benefits of possibly executing enemy spies far outweigh the demerits of possibly executing someone that only committed a lesser crime.

The distance is all the way around hammerfell and highrock both of which dislike the thalmor so theirs a fair chance the might get attacked or supply ships bringing food and other necessities would be attacked. Even when they get to skyrim their landing spots are garbage, and their in hostile lands with no proper base. With chance of reinforcements being weeks to months away. Where as skyrim could easily call upon hammerfell for help, morrow too but they be unlikely. If the battle goes well for skyrim the empire might also declare war on thalmor finally, if it doesn't than they covertly help them, after all both sides hate the thalmor, the empire are just bigger cowards than skyrim.

One of the things I wish they added was after taking over a city or before the battle for said city, you could speak with the Jarl’s on opposing sides and convince or even intimidate them to join the side your on. There were a few jarls who were better suited than their counterparts. Also convincing Ulfric and Elisif to marry each other to unify Skyrim all together would be interesting.

I always like Falk, he is the most competent and politically savvy of all the stewards in the holds. And he is pretty open with you as well when starting the Wolf Queen quest. Flat out told player he was just gonna wave the matter off originally before seeking your help.

The issue with that is is that Ulfric forced his hand to serve the Empire. Ulfric's entire position in Skyrim was that you were either with him or against him. He saw neutrality as the acts of an enemy because they are withholding men, resources and supplies from his war effort and that means war. In the Empire path, imperial scouts reported that Ulfric was preparing his army to attack Whiterun. Tullius decided to use that to pressure Balgruuf to join the Empire but Ulfric was still taking aggressive action in preparing to attack Whiterun. When Balgruuf gets the news he starts making preparations for war because Ulfric brought it to his doorstep, and he sends the dragonborn to deliver his axe to Ulfric to get final confirmation on Ulfirc's intentions. On the Stormcloak path Ulfric sends the dragonborn to deliver his axe to Balgruuf and declares his intentions to attack unless Balgruuf submits and joins him. No matter which way it goes, Balgruuf was forced into the war by Ulfric. Balgruuf wasn't going to side with the man invading his hold and bringing war and death to Whiterun.

I always thought it was funny that Thongvor Silver Blood is one of the game’s biggest Empire-haters but he wears imperial steel boots and Bracers, even with the Imperial Dragon Crest on his arms! I love how both the Empire and Stormcloaks realize the real enemy is the Aldmeri Dominion. And right after they win the Civil War both sides start preparing for the inevitable conflict with the Nazi Elves. It shows that neither side is too arrogant. Hell the Stormcloaks seem like they're going to declare war first, and if the Stormcloaks winning is canon, there's a good chance they form an alliance with Hammerfell, and take the fight to the Elves, and then force the Empire to dismantle, forming a new Empire with Skyrim and Hammerfell at the lead.

Also, yeah, after becoming High King of Skyrim, we obviously establish a new Imperial Dynasty based on the bloodline of the Dragonborn. The Septim Empire hasn't been legitimate since Martin Septim died.

It's only hard to join them if you view the Civil War as a contained conflict that would have no repercussions moving forward that would affect-- I don't know-- the next Great War that the Empire was gearing up for. The only thing Skyrim had to contribute was man power and that's it. It's nice if you want a bunch of meatshields but armored warriors are going to die en masse against the Dominion-- that use Magic. If the collective Empire almost collapsed even with the Nords from Skyrim providing the bulk of its forces + other provinces, Skyrim doesn't really stand a chance on its own regardless of its numbers. Hammerfell at least doesn't actively look down on branches of magic such as Destruction like the Nords do.

And with what you said about the empire just there to give rule or restrictions isn’t as different then what the stormcloaks want, they do the same things for different reasons. the empire for, well, the empire and it’s provenances, and the stormcloaks for Skyrim alone. And when it comes to the thalmor, they also have some control on the stormcloaks, because many equipment and weapons the stormcloaks have gotten and given to them by the stormcloaks without even knowing it. and because of the fact that the empire is more rich in natural materials and in money, the empire have a better shot at defeating them, considering they defeated them last time, they could do it again, and the thalmor victory at the beginning of the war was due to the daedric artifact they had, after the empire took that from then, favor went upon the empire, and also considering the facts that the empire have clearly been hinting towards a rebellion against the thalmor and the fact the thalmor hasn’t done anything like last time show that they don’t have any weapon to give them the advantage and are probably oblivious to the empires preparations for a counter attack. This is my opinion tho

@@yehyaali4701 no, there really is no evidence or proof of the empire plotting to to rebel against the Thalmor, they've had more then enough time to rebuild their armies long before the civil war in Skyrim, like many empires in real life they become too ineffective with trying to control everything and everyone and trying toi make everyone think how they think without any form of respect for other cultures honour, tradition or discipline, the Thalmor only aid the Stormclocks enough to keep them a threat to the empire to draw the conflict for longer but state they absolutely do not want a Stormclock victory because they know if the Stormclocks win the civil war, they'll drive all foreign influences out of Skyrim, if the empire wins, the Thalmor will have more time to imbed its influence in skyrim so even if the empire did decide to fight back, the Thalmor will have a hand an ear in every province to sabotage the empires forces, yes if the Stormclocks win, some Nords will still hold some xenophobic views but without the tensions of war on the backs of everyone's minds they may be able to form relations with the dark elf refuges and learing to work with each other or seek allies like Hammerfell to take the fight to the Summerset Iles befor they can form a defence, and the empire can get to the business of reinforcing it's own provinces without a civil war tearing themselves apart

@@james739123 there is, when you ask Tullius why the emperor isn’t sending the reinforcements he wants, tullius says because the emperor is situating them on the border with the dominion. And after you take windhelm and speak with tullius, he basically mentions another Great War happening soon. Most people who understand the lore agree that this is something the empire wants to to, the epic Nate, fudge muppet, imperial knowledge etc

I don't think Ulfric and the Stormcloaks are bad people, but the rebellion is a pretty dumb and inconsequent movement. Talos was literally the founder of the Empire, so it's pretty obvious that they did not want to make peace with the Thalmor and outlaw his worship. The White-Gold Concordat was a way for the Empire to regain it's forces and fight back the Aldmeri Dominion, as General Tulius makes it clear that after dealing with the Stormcloaks they are going to prepare to fight back the Elves. In resume, Ulfric is actually helping the Thalmor (even if he does not realise it), and that's why I side with the Imperials every time I play.

To be fair, both sides hate the Thalmor. Once the Stormcloaks take over Solitude, the first things Ulfric and Galmor do is talk about getting ready for the upcoming war with the Thalmor. The Imperials believe in playing nice with the Thalmor for now, all while silently gaining strength to over time. The Stormcloaks believe in openly renouncing the Thalmor, and attempting to undermine their control at every turn. Both sides have merit.

The Thalmor support the civil war, but they don't support Ulfric. The Thalmor even say that a Stormcloack would also be bad for the Thalmor. A victory on either side will stabilize Skyrim, which is not what the Thalmor want.
