Irrelevant and deeply unfair. I am not a fan of Carol Vorderman based on her television persona though I could be entirely wrong. There are plenty of people who are intelligent who do not obtain a high degree classification for one reason or another that is nothing to do with their intelligence levels. Intelligence cannot be narrowly defined either or boiled down to passing exams in a system little changed for one hundred years. She used to live opposite my great aunt in Barnes, South west London in the early nineteen eighties, and apparently she was very pleasant to talk to.

They decided to cut her pay by a huge amount, and she - understandably - didn't think it was worth sticking around. She had a good run. They make fun of her out of spite, or jealousy, or whatever you want to call it.

Her twenties were pre-nose job, embarrassed by her Cambridge Math third, moping about the house, when one day her mother answered the Countdown ad in the newspaper for her and sent her for an interview.
