And it's not always pedestrian or other vehicle safety, rolling over these vehicles is very easy compared to a Honda Civic, and there have been failures as recently as 2020 for many of their roofs to support the weight of the vehicle as required. And finally, A 2023 IIHS study found that vehicles that are tall and blunt, such as a large pickup or SUV, are 43.6% more likely to cause death in a collision with a pedestrian. @@DimitarStanev It's not about necessity, if it were you could argue literally nobody on Earth needs a luxury car or a sports car. They serve no actual utility outside of what personal enjoyment you extract from them. The same deal with the Escalade, if you're asking why you *need* it you're asking the wrong question. It's literally just big because people like big comfortable/luxurious vehicles, that's the beginning and end of it. For the europeans whining about the size of this thing, this has always been an escalade hallmark. The point of the car is to have a floaty, large comfortable hauler that can do cross country trips lile nothing. Its built to go on american streets and highways, not medieval european roads. And that gargantuan price also has a garantuan price tag to match. I personally love the escalade because its the last car that reminds me of cadillacs and lincolns in the 50s, 60s and 70s before the oil crisis. Absolutely massive, comfy beasts that just ride beautifully and look good too.

NHTSA study put the Silverado at #1 for vehicles involved in the most deadly crashes in America, followed closely by the Ford f-150. The Ford Explorer, f-250, and Ram1500 also made the list. Studies by independent insurance companies will consistently bump up pickup trucks and SUVs as the top 20 deadliest as well. But they figured this out in Europe in the 80's, which is why they actually have pedestrian crash standards there, while we don't. And why many of these full size vehicles are banned/require truck licenses. And the rise in pedestrian deaths here is the US are happening in crosswalks where the pedestrian is supposed to be and cars are required to stop. Maybe look with eyes open next time

It looks like there are cameras all around it, I saw some next to the front wheels. Maybe they are for sensors too, but probably help in 360 view. However, I agree the hood is enormous, as all recent American trucks and full size SUV's. They all have this blunt nose style that's actually increased pedestrian injuries and fatalities since 2009 by more than half. Far as I can tell, there is no rule in U.S. about hood height (or hardly any standard) or maybe vehicles over a certain weight are exempt; that is more likely the reason. Pedestrians be dammed I guess. The look of the front of the vehicle is more important in this case.. Take a look at a late 90's SUV's or trucks, and there is a huge difference in height, pedestrians at least had a chance back then..

Don't get the faux sense of surprise. You drove around in the previous escalade and anyone who's spent 5mins near US roads knows the vehicles are large. The size won't feel like that big on a US road which is the market it's for. No shit a golf would look small next to it. But a golf looks small next to an F Truck or Ram too.
