The first Cosworth that I heard that sounded out of this world was DFV in a Lotus 49 driven by the great Jim Clark alone on the track at Sandown Park in Melbourne Australia. Because he was alone for about 40 minutes the sound was bouncing off the billboards. The sound is still in my head it was just amazing. Two months late Clark was killed in the F2 race at Hockelheim. I was 15 & Jimmy was a hero of mine then & still is.

This also shows you what a marvel this engine is but also how freaking good the 992 GT3 engine is, with less than half the displacement it makes more than half of this ones power. We got 8.3L in this one vs 4.0L in the GT3 with 986bhp and the Porsche with 510. Scaling performance per liter almost linearly from 6 to 16 cylinders just shows you how on top of their game Cosworth is and why everyone and their mother lets them build their engines.

It is basically just two V8’s, though. Specifically it’s two typical cross plane V8s, with crank pins at 45 degrees rather than 90. A perfectly balanced V16 with an even firing interval would have a 45 or 135 degree V, allowing 90 degree crank pins, and would basically be two inline 8s the same way a V12 is two inline 6s.

Mate Rimac is our hero!! I was expecting Bugatti to go hybrid and downsize, as every other car company is doing these days, and come with an electrified V8 or V6, but no! Mate kept the NA engine alive in a glorious V16 form and I bet he will forever fight for NA even though his nature is electric. You GO young man!! and keep the spirit alive because we are many that crave the sound and feeling of a REAL engine!

The Valkyrie costs $450,000 (£355,000) over three years to maintain, according to report by Bloomberg. Hence lots of cancelled orders. What are the service costs over three years for this monster? Before you say Bugatti owners don’t care they are the same customers who ordered the Valk.

The increase in value of these vehicles far exceeds this figure. And according to a statement of 2015 from former Bugatti CEO Wolfgang Durheimer, the average [Veyron] owner has a total of 84 cars, three private jets, and a yacht. I think, if they want a car like that they don't care about $150,000 a year at all. A one week trip with the yacht most likely costs more. 😅

I would have been impressed if I didnt know they had a V12 which makes the same power: 'The Valkyrie contains a 6.5-litre naturally-aspirated V12 engine tailored by Cosworth, which produces around 746 kW (1,000 hp) at 10,500 rpm, with a redline of 11,100 rpm. This will make it the most powerful naturally-aspirated engine ever to be fitted to a production road car.'

@JemaKnight

A standard Bugatti would never do something like go to 11000RPM. It's the antithesis of their design philosophy. It should feel effortless and relatively undramatic to find the limits of the car. No doubt there will later be a Tourbillon SuperSport or something along those lines which will take this engine and go completely off the wall with it.
