Purchased: August 2023 - still works GREAT!I kzbin.infoUgkxxsUnXhGsSJLim_XnMHyQK0u3XVaW-CGn live in a studio and during the summer it gets scorching hot - really old building with no ac units. I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

7:39 wow thank you for that info. I'm an HVAC tech, and I always wire that thing to R and G on the Tstat for the fan so that its relay would engage it when the fan comes on. I did that thinking so it can last longer. But I had no idea that shortens the life of it. Thanks so much for that. I guess I'll plug it in next time or hard wire it to R and common for constant power. I only installed 3 of those in my career of HVAC, thankfully I know all 3 of those clients because they know me and trust me, and I will tell them all my mistake and will bring this to other tech co workers of mine, because our company is focusing more on Halo's.

Note that this isn't common for all air purifiers. The Reme Halo (model here) wants to be on all the time; vs the newer Reme Halo LED should only be on when the blower is running. But another difference: whereas many unit can connect directly to available EAC (Electronic Air Cleaner) power terminals off the controller board, the Halo LED says it needs to use a pressure switch to detect airflow, and enable power-on.

This is one configuration, many homes have filters in a return air grille like the one you described. At least here in Texas. We prefer at least one 4” filter in the attic in this configuration with multiple returns if it’s easy to access so that you’re not changing 2-3 filters, just one.

@@GhostWar305 so it's not necessary to put a filter inside the unit if you already have one inside the house ceiling?

@@danram247 Your house should not have filters at both ends. If you have intake filters in your ceilings AND on your furnace unit then you may be restricting the air flow alot which will stress out your unit. I would have an AC guy come look and check it out. Notice how the entire filter housing is not insulated? Will this 400+ sq inches of uninstalled metal not radiate heat back into the flow stream if this is installed in a 140F texas attic? My new Trane is the same way. The rear portion of the return box is insulated, then the 5" x the perimeter of the filter housing is not. Im just a Trane customer asking. Thanks
@topgunheatingandairllc21974 жыл бұрын
It’s a fair point, and question. We’ve gotten away from using this type of return air filter plenum and gone to using a cabinet for media filters. Neither are insulated. Attic ventilation is a whole other issue. I don’t think that horizontal installs in attics are the best, but we deal with the hand we’re dealt by builders. Most homes are not designed around mechanicals. Most furnaces are not insulated either until you get into 16+ seer models either. I’d be interested in a study showing if it had any impact on performance and efficiency honestly.
