Now, I love her voice, you know that. But this video made me realize that doing runs in her head voice is difficult for her. They either sound sluggish, or she has to interrupt the run and move onto the next note in chest voice. Well, everyone has a weakness. Come to think of it I never or at least I don’t remember, hearing runs in any register from her, in the past. Maybe she’s not that agile, even though she has all these other strengths.

She is a balladeer. Perhaps she did not try developing her agility or she does not like doing it. I remember back in the days she did so much of the Whitney runs and adlibs. She was quite agile. But I guess in her attempt to not sound like Whitney, running and riffing was something she refrained from doing as she tended to emulate Whitney so much whenever she did that.
