Klaus, this is an amazing tutorial! I appreciate specifically that the camera is fixed somewhere rather than using your cell phone and working with one hand. I will go out now an try it out... It's a pity you're in the US, I would fully trust your repair. Thanks a lot!

Watched the video twice, just changed the Cylinder. Got a little nervous when the hook did not line up, had to manually twist it 180 degrees. Be careful with the old one, when you go to push the piston in oil will FLY!! I had an oil stain on the headliner, I used "CRC" Electronic Cleaner, Quick Drying Formula to clean it and it came out AMAZING! No stain anymore.

so question regarding positioning of the mounting frame that can be adjusted left or right ...roof used to work normally till center cylinder burst ...replaced it and marked where the frame was when I took it of and then put it in exact same place ...roof closed on first try but on second try stopped when the front locked leaving the back open...fluid in tank was a bit over min...tried to open again it unlocked and stopped ...try again a couple of times and finally it worked...but it would stop on closing at the point where the front locks...so I guessed it must be the frame placement that doesn't allow the switch to activate when locking and so it doesn't go to the next stage....so since as you so kindly said we don't know which side the switch is and what to do I took a lucky guess and moved the frame almost all the way to the one side (about 3mm, it was what looked as exact middle when I removed it) and ta da it now works ok ! ...so the question is are these 3mm too much ? should I try to adjust it closer to center to the point where it works constantly or is it ok there ? also when the roof closes just before it reaches the front it does a jerking motion then stops still a bit open and then it locks...is that normal ? tia cheers

If I understand your question correctly, then you are asking whether one could just unlock the front without opening the storage cover and then opening the top just enough to remove the front lock cylinder. Manually opening the storage cover is a pain, but it is best to open the cover because you are risking to bend the soft top frame otherwise. With some luck, if you were to add some fluid to the pump, you might be able to have the pump partially open the cover for you. You could also disconnect the tops of the tonneau cover cylinders from the tonneau cover, which would make opening the cover manually a lot easier.

@@andyandy5984 You wrote "thanks for the input, yes that's exactly what I meant, the roof still works electrically but I would like to close it after removing the cylinder" I'm glad to hear that your top is still operational. I would recommend the following: 1) Partially open the top electrically, as seen in the video for cylinder removal. 2) Remove the cylinder. 3) Put the two hoses in a plastic bag. 4) Manually close the top as seen in our video on manual top operation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/fH-5pH6jZ9CEock 5) Once you are ready to install the front lock cylinder A2098001172 again, secure it to the hoses and open the top electrically until you get to the part where this cylinder is supposed to unlock the front, which you do manually at this point.

@@TopHydraulics ok tks for advice , I'll try it this way, I thought I could just unlatch the front manually and get the cylinder out w/o opening the top completely !

Great video. Do you repair the cylinders yourself? The new cylinder costs around 560 euro in Sweden. Do you habe a alternative company who sell them? It must be a joke for this part so much. Or do you remanufacture them yourself? I know for the 208 you can by a repair set for the cylinders. My is leaking but not so much, of course time to take a look on it. Your video helps me to get it out. Thanks for that. Greetings from Sweden. CLK 320 2003

Hey, man. He repairs, he has a website on the Internet. But I repaired it in Italy and sent it from Russia. They are not easily repaired, as on 208. You need special equipment.

great info as always ! my front one was leaking could feel it see it through the hole, disassembled oil all over the place but it didn't seem to come from the ends of the cylinder more like where the hoses attach , could it be the little Orings only leaking not the cylinder itself ? tia

The front lock cylinder A 209 800 11 72 typically leaks first from the bottom, where the mounting pin goes through the housing. This is easily mistaken for a leak from the hydraulic line ports. The o-rings at the hydraulic line ports fail only if the lines have been installed incorrectly and the o-rings got kinked or cut during the process. As I'm showing in the video, the o-ring must be put on the line fitting first, then the fitting gets inserted into the cylinder.
