Topic 49: Transconductance Comparison

I made a mistake writing the equation for dynamic emitter resistance re. I think I might be slightly dyslexic (I do transpose digits, etc. fairly often). Anyway, the emission coefficient (eta) multiplies the numerator V_T and not the denominator Ic as shown. Sorry about the confusion.
This is a more qualitative video comparing the transconductance of the devices we've been looking at so far in this series of videos. The curves for the MPF201, LND150, DN2535, 2N7000 and the 2N3904 are graphed on the same scale, making comparisons particularly easy.

EXCELLENT LECTURE!WHICH TRANSISTOR AND,OR, CONFIGURATION DO YOU THINK WOULD BE THE BEST FOR HI-FI STEREO?

It’s hard to pick one over another because in hi fi amplifiers we will use a lot of negative feedback, which should reduce nonlinearity to practically zero. Most distortion will be produced in the output stage. JFETs are low noise but very parameter dependent. Wish I could answer more completely but it’s a deep topic.
