I think the Jewish people are a fine bunch and I am friends with a few Jews. But......they seemed to be overly centered on money. When you talk with these Jews, the conversation always seems to find its way back to money it's always "how much are you getting for this" and "what does this cost." Don't get me wrong, I think a nice crisp Benjamin Franklin is a beautiful thing, but to center your whole existence on it? Where is the humanity in that?

It's troubling to think that anyone would decide whether a group is good or not, based on a few people.

This is an old anti-semitic false stereotype. America is a money obsessed capitalist society, your survival depends on how well you can make and save money, and this stress about money is in no way unique to Jewish Americans. Better educated people are smart with money, they save it and invest it instead of spending it recklessly, and therefore have easier lives and more freedom. A lot of Americans get their money advice from author and radio host Dave Ramsey, an evangelical Christian.. who is obsessed with money and teaches millions of his followers to be obsessed with money too. He helps soothe the fears plaguing every American, how to invest and save for retirement... how to pay off medical bills... how to recover from bankruptcy etc. So while survival in America has a lot to do with money its not exactly our "whole existence".

Cascadianow evangelicals also have the prosperity gospel thing that’s all about money and material possessions and that’s their happiness.

Well....my own connection to Judaism is now very distant. However, I still feel an obligation to speak up when I consider that a more balanced perspective needs to be offered. A quick look back at history will provide greater understanding. In many parts of Europe ....certainly in Russia...until comparatively recent times , Jews were only allowed to follow certain occupations....usually menial. Generations had to live with the brakes on. That caused an enormous pent-up desire for success and great ambition. Upon arriving in more open and liberated countries, Jews finally had the chance to excel in their chosen fields without limitations. And that enormous reserve of energy , creativity and energy was, finally, green lighted. Jews have always had to contend with a degree of prejudice....the reason, no doubt, why many became prominent in the civil rights movement. So, the bottom line is that they have always had to be much better....more talented...smarter...more creative...work harder than others to get ahead. So, yes, they have excelled in the world of money and finance...just as they have in other areas such as the arts and medicine. From my viewpoint, I can only say that some of the most generous and altruistic people I have ever known have been Jewish.
