I was in Hayden walking towards the Costo across from Black Sheep and I was carrying my .1911 MC Operator when a deputy rolled up on me. He just simply asked me if that was a .1911 I was carrying and I say yes sir. He said good choice, waved at me saying to have a good day a drove off... Do that in California and your ass is going to jail. What's wrong with that picture... Now purchasing a firearm in California is a fucking joke. Now as of January 1st, 2024, you are now required to be audio and video recorded when you are filling out the paperwork. To top it off, it takes literally 35-45 minutes to get the paperwork done because they're either too slow and BSing with other folks there. Now I get it they're being extra careful due to government overwatch and FFL's are just trying to make sure the paperwork is done correctly. But Idaho is soo much better in regards to gun laws.... Can't wait to get back home there again this year...

I got pulled over last year because I didn't have plates on my new (to me) car and didn't know I was supposed to have the sticker in a certain place on the back window...I did my usual when asked to get my license and told him I've got a pistol concealed near my wallet, the trooper said, "this is Idaho, everybody's got a gun". I knew I moved to the right State at that point.

Laws that would do the same things are under consideration in the People's Republic of Washington. In addition to the highly invasive recording, which the FFL has to maintain for SIX YEARS, they would be required to empty their display cases EVERY NIGHT and lock everything in a vault. Can you imagine having to refill every case, every morning? And if you think about it, they're required to have cameras recording the cases. So 50% of the time, the cameras are going to be recording... empty cases.

When I renewed my CCP in Washington the renewal notice stated that 79% of gun deaths in the state are either suicides or accidental discharges. Last time I looked, America's suicide rate was within 1 point of Japan's, 17 vs 16 per 100,000. In Japan, virtually no citizens own guns. Suicidal people will commit suicide, regardless of the methods available, unfortunately.

The answer to the specific question is Missouri . For actual Gun Rights and Gun Freedoms - Yes . Idaho is very good . ( For now any way . But the population is low enough, that it won't take very many California / Seattle/ Portland escapee/ retirees to start switching part of the state purple .) Meanwhile , Yes Idaho is good for Gun Rights/ Gun Freedoms/ Gun Culture , but there's easily a half dozen states that are all good enough to be essentially indistinguishable .

California transplants is what ruined Oregon and Washington. Being a seventh generation Oregonian (family immigrated from Newfoundland) and about 70 years old, I remember open carry in my twenties in Salem with no problem even in the Fred Meyer store to buy ammo on the way to go hunting. Nowadays if you open carry some California transplant may call the cops with some ridiculous claims about you. We used to have signs and bumper stickers in the 60s and 70s that said, Don't Cailfornicate Oregon. The governor, Tom McCall, invited tourist from California to visit but not stay. That was for real! @@889976889 Exactly! Liberals "feel" safe in some places, but common sense tells us non liberals that crap can happen anywhere and it is caused by bad people, who move around. Here in SoCal, we see people on our security cameras check vehicles often at night for cats or even during the day. The places that used to be nice here are not very far from the bad areas. Why risk it? If I lived in Idaho, I would still lock my belongings and use layers of security and carry all of the time......I just wouldn't need a permission slip from the rulers here to do it. Locking my vehicles and home is as easy as using my turn signal ALL of the time, which is as second nature as breathing. I am one who moved from Khaliforniastan to Idaho a bit more than 6 years ago with my kids and grandkids. The main reason to move was that we home school and Khaliforniastan hates home schooling but in Idaho it's a state constitutional right. When we go here, I got a job as a public school bus driver. One day I walked past the car of a fellow driver talking with another driver with his trunk wide open. In the trunk were probably at least 30 different styles of pistols and rifles which the guy had. Lots of others walked by as well and no one cared. The other thing which happened is that in the fall it was an election year. I was REQUIED to show ID to get a ballot (paper) and after filling it out was REQUIRED a second time to show my ID before putting it in the box. And oh, yes, a visit to DMV generally took about 20 minutes, not 20 hours. I love the freedom in Idaho, but that is under attack in Boise, in the legislature, Boise State College and by the Mayor of Boise, a supposedly avowed Marxist. We'll probably outlast the coastal states on both sides, but even in my own short duration here, the culture is definitely changing fast with influxes from the LA and SF areas. It saddens me greatly and I can understand why such people are deeply resented by many natives. It's exactly what I saw happen to the old California of my youth in a takeover by those on the East Coast...

Bought a Mobile home and needed a place to park it. Well WA was the only place I could find a lot. Gun laws were on par with Idaho just a little extra paper work for a hand gun. By 2019 the laws on guns got libtarded so by 2023 could not stand it and I move back into my mom's place. I had to be her care giver anyway so I got out of WA. I can buy what I want again and not putting up with that BS. I missed out on some really nice SKS rifles in great condition and price over WA's BS. If you move to Idaho don't bring your Californian BS with you. Do not support Rank Choice voting or you gonna end up like WA state.

I do agree when they say not to vote liberal or like a "typical californian" when they do make it to a better state. At this point CA is a lost cause and we will be lucky if our nation isn't already a lost cause with how fast it is circling the drain. There are many people here who are into the shooting sports and who value freedom but most of the country just lumps everyone together as liberals when the elections and laws go that way for the state as a whole. If it wasn't for the laws and huge number of foreign people who live like this is some other country, it would be a nice place to live. When English is no longer the primary language while in many public places and the laws seem no better than a 3rd world country, it is easy to feel like this isn't even the USA any longer.

Piece of advice. If you are an Idaho resident and are selling a handgun to a private buyer, make sure the buyer is an Idaho resident. write down the person's name and save it. You can only buy a handgun in the state in which you are a resident. This will keep you out of trouble if the person does something stupid with the handgun and the "authorities" come by to ask you questions about how you sold the handgun.

I live in Hawaii. It's sooo restrictive to purchase a firearm. Step #1 is going to our local PD and fill out a Permission to Acquire form, for the county chief of police. You must be fingerprinted and photographed for a criminal background check and affirm by affidavit your mental health and lack of drug or alcohol addiction or criminal background. You authorize release of your medical history and give the name and address of your doctor. Your doctor is required to release any mental health information pertinent to your acquiring firearms. This process takes 14 days. Only after that passes can you then go to our local FFL and do the NICS background check and then make the purchase. Within 5 days we much register the firearm. If this is for multiple handguns, the process is repeated for each! I can smell the freedom in Idaho all the way here in Hawaii! :-) Great video. Great insight into Idaho's 2A lifestyle! Mahalo!

I did it for reciprocity with other states that might travel to that reciprocate with this permit as well as eliminating any background checks while purchasing firearms. Works well. I think your assessment of gun ownership is pretty accurate. When I first moved here I decided I liked a piece of property, but wanted to understand more about flood plain issues and decided I would go down to the Army Corps of Engineers office and learn more about the area from a flooding perspective. My realtor asked if he could tag along and I said, "sure". When we pulled up in front of the federal building where the ACoE's offices were located, my realtor said, "would you mind if I stored my gun in your truck? It is illegal to carry it in a federal building." I was pretty surprised, here is a businessman out on a trip with his client and he was still carrying, I really respected that, every day no matter what.

With 51hrs of overtime every week, my checks were the largest in my life. Weeks go by and I kept going to Sherwood Firearms, an awesome store in the area, and kept looking at this maple Zastava M70. After researching it and looking at it multiple times, 3 months into the contract, I decided to pull the trigger. Given I was working 13hr days, 7 days a week, there wasn’t much time for me to mess around at gun shops. Thus, on my lunch break, I bought an AK. Drove there, bought it, and was a Zastava owner before my lunch break was over. Bing, bang, boom, that was fast. That was the most American hour of my life.

I live in North Idaho and we get crime spill from Washington. This really had an uptick during the Plandemic because Idaho was open and Washington business were locked down. It got so bad that bars and restaurants in down town Coeur d'Alene started only serving Idaho residents for a few days until the city government, full of ex-Californians btw, threatened to pull their business licenses. Around the same time there was a shoot out at a local park by Washington residents shooting at other Washington residents over a drug deal. A popular shooting area in the forest near Hayden Lake is generally occupied by Washington plated vehicles because Washington is a police state, especially when it comes to guns. We don't mind them shooting here but these people tend to take trash out to shoot and leave it behind when they leave. I almost never shoot there, but when I do I always leave with a few trash bags full of the discarded trash of others, including Idahoans; this pisses me off. Idaho is nice because we vote conservative and the church benches are full. If you don't see your friends at church it's because they are hunting, fishing, or off-roading. If you don't like waving at strangers or knowing all of your neighbors Idaho isn't for you. If it makes you nervous to see firearms openly carried in the stores and restaurants, just know that there were ten you never saw because they were concealed carried. Idaho is a terrible place and should be avoided.

This alone will show how different things are in that state. I grew up in Boise (late 70s early 80s), and as part of Junior High one of the required classes was a gun safety class. Which I think is a good thing, as being taught how to be safe around guns would prevent a lot of accidents. And when I was at Boise High I was in ROTC. And as part of the drill team, I had an actual M1903 issues to me as a drill rifle. I would take it home on the city bus, drive around town on my motorcycle with it, and even stop at the bank. And nobody gave it a second glance, the only thing the guard wanted to know is that it was unloaded (it was demiliarized and could not fire). We also had a rifle range in the basement of the school, and we would even bring real rifles in and it was actually a recognized sport. Is so unlike how things are in states like California.

The waiting period in Oregon isn't really a waiting period. What happened is the state tried to pass all kinds of unconstitutional gun laws, only to have the courts come back and tell them they can't do that. So people had started panic buying and it overwhelmed the background check system. Aside from that, buying a gun in Oregon is the same as buying in Idaho. I have actually used my Oregon license to buy a shotgun in Idaho.

WA expat who moved to Post Falls in 2020 here. We moved here after my brother (a resident of CDA) sent me footage from "the battle for CDA" during the summer of love. We've made many friends in the community and most carry daily. My favorite hangout, The Racketeer, has the bartenders and tobaccanists open carrying as part of their work attire. I feel like I finally live in America again. My wife loves it, my kids love it, and I love it, and we go out of our way to be involved in the community. In W WA if we accidentally left our garage door open we would be out a bicycle, tools or anything else light enough to carry, and we lived in a "good" neighborhood. Here in PF if we leave our garage door open accidentally we get a knock on the door from our neighbors if we're home, or a text from them if we aren't. If we're out they close the door for us and wish us well. We have multiple neighbors who have our garage code who will place packages and mail in the garage for us if we're gone for any extended amount of time. That's just one example of how differently the community is here. It essentially feels like living in a different country entirely.

As a kid I went to the Boise gun show, probably 1990. I remember seeing a vendor selling matched sets of tec-9's and all that was necessary was an ID. Wish i had enough to buy a set.

You've talked about 2nd Amendment and firearms ownership in Idaho during previous videos, but in this video you answered a number of questions I had about carrying firearms, buying and selling firearms, and hunting. 👍👍👍 When I was younger, I used to small game hunt in California's Central Valley. I haven't done that in many years, but I'd like to do it in Idaho, and I'd like to hunt big game for the first time. It's the same for fishing. Would you please tell me if Idaho has any restrictions on lead shot in shotgun shells? California requires the use of steel shot when hunting wildlife. By the way, a person isn't allowed to bring a firearm in a Costco store in the city where I live in California. I understand this is a nationwide policy for Costco, so they must have waived it in Idaho. 🤔
@Topidahorealestate

I’m glad i could answer those questions for you. You can use lead shotshells as long as you are not on a national wildlife refuge like deer flat. Also the same goes for water fowl but other than that, lead is totally legal here.

Costco has the same policy in Idaho, but no gun signs have no force of law in Idaho so we carry in Costco anyway.

I have never seen or heard of a no guns policy in Costco in Idaho or any other state. That being said I cary consealed every where in Idaho including Costco. I have never open carried in Costco. I have open carried into Wal-Mart with in the last year with no issues. My brother works at wallmart and he sees people open carrieing all the time, hand guns that is. If an individual were to open carry a long gun or a braced pistol into a wallmart or other store in Idaho I would imagine that the cops would be called. What would happen after that I have no idea.

Times certainly have changed over the years. In Gainesville, FL. while attending the Univ. of FL. in 69' and 70' we would often walk into J.M Fields, one of two big box stores of that Era, strapped, open carry and loaded, go to sporting goods and by 22 ammo to head up U.S. 441 to Owens Corningand to shoot moccasins in cypress Bay hammocks during the dry spring. A rifle and or shotgun was nearly in every back window on a rack in most pickup trucks, it was common to see the windows rolled down in a parking lot. We didn't think a thing about it.

I’m from Texas and have had a LTC even before we got open carry. I was in Oregon which is not a reciprocity state but had open carry oddly enough. I never saw anyone open carrying. As asked a local police officer about open carrying at the local mall. He was confused and had to look up the law not knowing open carry was legal. He said if I carried he would surely get a call to investigate and have to “ask” me not to do that.

There was probably another reason the Costco associate asked you to conceal carry - Costco policy prohibits firearms and other weapons to be brought into the warehouse, except in the case of authorized law-enforcement officers. Directly from the membership privileges/conditions page.

I went to the West Idaho Fair last week. The security guard at the front gate asked if I had any firearms on me. I said yes, I have my firearm. He said, "Okay, have a great day". Where else would that happen? Why hire a person to ask if you have a weapon, and the do nothing when you find out they do? On the one hand, it's a ridiculous waste of money. But on the other hand, it is a very clear picture of the gun culture here.

There is no waiting period in the state of Oregon. We have our background check administered by the oregon state police. While there can and have been delays at times. My last firearm purchase took about 30 mins from the time I walked in until the time I walked out with my new pistol. This occurred in September of 2023 in Salem, OR.

It was probably after the state police stopped doing the background check. They changed it to the FBI’s NICS system. I use to wait at least two weeks but now it’s 15-40 minutes. Basically how backed up the FFL is.

Just an FYI Oregon doesn't have any waiting periods. Picked up an AR lower a few weeks ago and was in and out in 15 minutes, lower in hand. The only thing you have to wait for is your background check to clear. Now when we have a gun law scare and there are an extra 20k 4473s filled out each day you can end up waiting days or even weeks for the background check, but if you have a good FFL you are only waiting 3 days until they release your firearms.
