My favorite element of this is that you can tell just how exhausting it is to even be a basic human shape, how taxing it is to literally will himself back from obliteration. But when he sees his daughter's picture, he can turn himself into a force of nature through sheer willpower. Brilliant.

And the music just elevates the storytelling of Flint in this scene: From a grieving and sympathetic piano, telling his caring and loving motivation of being a father, to blaring horns that reminds us that he is a father that will do ANYTHING to save his daughter, even if he's considered a threat to the city.

@RequiemPoete I had this exact same thought. Venom is a character that deserves a full film as the proper antagonist. I also like the idea of getting a full movie where Peter wears the black suit, without having to get rid of it before the final act. Hell, taking the suit off could’ve BEEN the final act. I can’t help but think of the possibilities there could’ve been had the studio not pushed for Venom so early, or at all. I know Raimi doesn’t like the character, but I think he still could’ve done a magnificent job with him if he had the proper time to do so.

Sandman, physically, looked up to God. He was confused, but he shut up and listened for the answer. He tuned into God... and he was shown the answer!! Yeah Rami wanted Sandman and Harry to be the only 2 big bad’s, but the executives of Sony said “hey Venom’s neat how about we put Venom in this film.” Now Rami hates Venom as a character and tried to refuse the inclusion but obviously lost. You can see just how little Rami wanted Venom in the movie and hated doing things with him because Eddie Brock isn’t that weight lifter reporter, and all the worst scenes involved either the Symbiote or Venom. There’s a few good scenes but tell me you couldn’t see Peter angry that the police force would hide Ben’s true killer for so long, and him seeing Flint wouldn’t reopen the wound resulting in a similar scene that we got with or without the black suit.

In the comics there's a version of sandman that goes on to raise his daughter but because of his apparent immortality he's forced to watch her die of old age. Sandman himself doesn't die until the end when he gives in and stop being sandman and becomes just. Sand. It reminded me of this scene specifically because it's the exact polar opposite. In this scene he's just woken up in a daze and now has to use all of his concentration and willpower to hold his human physical form. And it's beautifully illustrated here. It isn't until he realizes that not being able to pull it together means he won't be able to even hold his daughter again that he steels his mind and does it. All the while clutching her locket in his hand. A father with dedication.

@moragag9307
@moragag9307 7 ай бұрын
The problem with Venom was is that he became such a popular character during that time which explains why he was forced into the movie and Sam Raimi didn’t know anything about him so it’s understandable to see that he didn’t want to include a Villain that he barely knew which is why he never wanted him at all in the first place and Sony had to ruined Raimi’s vision for Spider-Man 3. And by looking at this scene here Raimi was going for Sandman as the main focus, he also wanted to conclude with Harry Osborn’s story with his plan for revenge towards Peter thinking that he killed his father

Originally Sam Raimi didn't want Venom period, not even in Spider-Man 4. The guy used to hate Venom with a passion. Avi Arad talked him into having Venom in this, and it made sense in retrospect, as the symbiote, like in the Spider-Man Animated Series in 1995, made Peter arrogant and angry beyond reason. Part of being humane is overcoming the emotions that poison a person's personality, like the desire for revenge.

@@mihaimercenarul7467 I give it that "Masterpiece" is a bit of an exaggeration. But it is still a good movie. Eddy and Venom may have been unnecessary (Sam Raimi agrees btw), but it was not bad scenes actually, the "No More Mr. Nice Guy"-Scenes with Peter was made pretty well for being just there (even the dance scene etc. makes sense if you take into consideration that Peter has no idea how to be a cool badass^^). I don't know how Harry was done dirty, everything was building up to a fight between him and Peter and it was done well. BUT I give the point, the amnesia was very awful writing and I didn't get why it was even written there. I mean I get kinda the point of Eddy and Venom, even if they weren't necessary they weren't bad either. The Amnesia-Part was completely unnecessary.

Show this scene to anyone who things Sam Raimi can only do bombastic over-the-top silliness or gore. This is art. Beautiful, stirring. One of the reasons I think the 2000-2010s were the golden age of superhero movies is they really resonated with people and reflected real problems in our lives. Those films made emotional connections with the audience, tackling issues we could relate to. Nowadays, it feels like they are all about saving the universe. They seem more like commercial films with forgettable fight scenes and uninspired stories.

It’s interesting that Sandman is the only antagonist to not become a monster upon his transformation; he commits robbery later, but not for selfish reasons. When Norman Osborn became the Green Goblin, he immediately murdered his assistant. Doc Ock, well, his arms slaughtered a room of surgeons, but he dismissed their deaths when falling under the arms’ influence. Flint Marko, upon awakening from his transformation, his first act is to literally pull himself together for his daughter, Penny.

This is one of the most touching, pure, and honest scenes I have ever seen in movies. I miss having villains who really weren’t bad people, they just care for someone dearly. The most touching part for me, is when he tries to pick up his photo, and can’t because he doesn’t have a hand. He tries to cry, but can’t because his tear glands are sand. So he forms a hand and fingers, so he can pick up that photo. Pure, honest, and powerful love for his daughter. That’s his real superpower. Edit: Wow 1K likes guys? Thanks so much ^u^ very appreciated hehe. Just want to take this chance to say you are all important and have value, and loved. : )

Why cant movies now of days have emotionally good scenes like this To those in the comments: I think what I meant was, more than anything. This scene captured so much emotion for the lack of words it has. You get to watch someone in a way be born into something, barely have the motivation to stand and what rekindles their strength is the thought of their daughter. And it helps him get up. Throughout he appears frustrated yet determined. It's extremely powerful stuff and it's not often seen at such magnitude.

Well let's face it. I would love this power. To be assimilated with a randomly recursive element. Hes technically invincible. His organic material has been replaced by sand particles making him multi corporeal and free spirited in his movements. He can only be effectively damaged by water and can scale to any size. He can even revive himself from nothing given the means to do so. He is one of my favourite characters because he is a troubled soul who has achieved a level of synthesis and decides to use it to fulfill his only motivation. His daughters chances at life. The music in this scene reflects this just as it does the idea of power with little to no limits.

And never will have and that's a good think, that way the sacred raimi's trilogy will always stay on top.

@@cjhill4130 Spider-Man 2 is still the best Spider-Man film ever made. Into the Spider-Verse easily takes second place though.

Small scenes like this made the Raimi trilogy in my opinion. The artistic disposition from simple rocks moving to a large pan out of sand travelling. To the formation of Sandman, and his struggle to lift his transformed body up. And among the art transforming on screen, you can see his reaction to realising he is now mutated into something he’s never seen. The fact that the producers were capable of emphasising emotion within such a heavily CGI scene, I feel like this was one of the best scenes of the Raimi series, if not the best. We don’t get this quality in films most times
