My last job I setup/ran the big brother (13") of your Radial Arm Drill and used a lifting magnet on steel plate up to about 1" thick, was working on some 60" X 120" x 3/4" when it let go missed my leg and foot by about 6-8". I had to walk away and take a break, rethink the whole job and made up some lifting hooks on grade 80 chain so we had four point to lift by. I know why the magnet let go after looking back on it, I hit the up button on the hoist to fast/hard and gave the plate a little bounce. That was all it took to get the magnet to do about the same as you first lift. I did enjoy that big old Radial Arm Drill (RAD) I was able to do jobs that they had been turning away because they didn't have someone to run it full time before I started on it. Please be careful when using the magnet , they are a great tool. But don't have any thing under it that you don't mind losing. Marry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year

We have similar magnets at my job (not the Vevor brand but wouldn't be surprised if it's the same). They can pick up impressive amounts, of solid bar, round bar, etc with really no concerns. Just make sure you be aware when you're picking up something that's flexible or really long so that it might flex or bounce off the magnet. The thinner something is the less it can pick up. We just make sure to never get underneath the load in all cases. The magnets actually get hard to engage on thinner things so it's actually a good clue that you're picking up something you need to be careful with.

The load cell will actually help the magnet on the initial pickup because it takes the shock out of the initial loading so it might be better for safety reasons to use one all the time. Looks like a useful bit of kit but I would be interested to see how it performs with "shock loading"

The lifting magnet worked out to be way better than expectations. Not something I could ever use personally, but really handy for your shop, especially with having the load cell so you know exactly what weight you're lifting. As an added bonus you get a good workout when applying it to the load that you want to lift.

Great new tool Josh. I think your initial picks that popped off was do to the fact the unit was over a groove in the surface of the Lucas table on the one end. I'll bet if you do the same lift with the magnet over solid metal it will work much better. Thanks for sharing.

It popped off because I was past its max capacity. Proven with the load cell. I was firmly between all table groobes.

My use for the Vevor magnetic lifter 100kg model was totally different. I am into HAM, GMRS, and CB radio and have base stations and mobile. I used to use magnetic antenna mount on my car but found that none were very strong to hold a 1/4 wave antenna. When I did find a very strong magnetic antenna mount I found that I could put it on the proof of my Excursion but removing it was nearly an impossible task due to the height of my car and the force of the magnet. So the Vevor came in handy. I made an antenna mounting bracket and attached that to the side opposite to the handle side of the Vevor. Now not only this Vevor can hold my 102" antenna taking it on and off my car is very easy.

Hello Topper, Nice video. Thank you. FYI... I have purchased many items for Vevor over the last few years, Magnetic lifter, steel side plate lifter, pallet grabber, several Hydraulic/ electric pumps, wire strippers, spring balancer, Digital Platform Scale etc. They all have been great, super fast shipping and if you have a problem they respond and solve the problem quickly. You will not go wrong with them and I have no affiliation with them. Thanks again for the great videos you produce.

I used similar magnets to pick up 8 in by 20 ft C channel at one of my last jobs. As long as you respect basic lifting safety rules and make sure what you're picking up is thick enough, they're great for lifting odd parts and raw materials. Just be sure the handle is actually locked into place before you lift, one of the other guys had his steel toes put to the test when he neglected to make sure it was actually engaged.

Hi Josh, As much as I try to go with ALL made in USA on most of my tools, some of the Vevor Items are just hard to beat when it comes to price and quality combined. For example I have their MR 13 B drill sharpener that has performed flawlessly and in fact outshines other BRAND NAME units 3 and 4x more in price....Looks like this is another A plus for them with this item you acquired. Crazy weather here with lots of snow then lost it all with torrential rains then a bit of snow to cover the mud. At least its still going to be a white Christmas here.....These warmer temps hopefully will keep the heating bills down in the shop. So far so good. Wishing you and the family there, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and prosperous New Year from here in the Adirondacks. Don ps: make you a bet we both refer to our areas as " UPPA US"...........

Good to see you first thing in the morning. I used to use a magnet like that for moving full sheets of thin steel to load on the laser table. One time it picked up two sheets. The oil on the steel caused adhesion. The bottom sheet let loose and nearly cut my legs off at the ankle. That was my fault for not checking before I lifted. I am glad that you liked the magnet because you are not nice when you are not happy with a product. You better carry a knife to cut through the fog today. Thanks for the video.

I bought 2 of these 1500kg magnets from vevor. Mine where delivered in separate cardboard boxes which had been wrecked in shipping. One of the handles was missing. When i got in touch with vevor they refunded me the price of 1 of the magnets and told me to keep it. I soon made a handle copying the one from the other magnet. So the outcome for me was a 2 for 1 deal.

I have one also and I do lots of sheet metal and plate. Be very careful on plate. The thinner the plate is the less capacity for the magnet and any plate that can flex much can peel itself right off the magnet. In other words, be very careful. On solid chunks of steel or iron, it usually gets a real good bite.
@TopperMachineLLC
@TopperMachineLLC 8 ай бұрын
I never trust any lifting device. Even if it says its rated as such with a such and such safety factor, I treat it as it can break at any time. I had read about the capacity being less on thin material, but I rarely lift plate under 1/2"

Definitely want to be careful the load is centered too. If it tips, the magnet can slide off much easier than it can be pulled upward.

You could see the gantry flex in the first attempt on the video, so I was pretty surprised when you were disappointed, but the way a chain hoist loads with minimal "boing" factor you ran right through the fail point in a flash. A better way to test it might be to throw a strap in the mix, something with some give, either way glad both products worked out. Side note, the lifting magnet isnt just usefull on the gantry hoist, you can dangle it from your fork truck and snag stuff you cant get under to place it on dunnage or a pallet.
@TopperMachineLLC

I have used magnets in ways anyone working for the safety department would pass out.. To be fair.. i got too much trust in magnets.. Your digital load cell probably came with a calibration certificate, but I’d still want to verify it myself since it is your hands & feet at risk. I’m sure you would check out the accuracy of an old-fashioned spring balance. Just because the digital load cell reads to tenths of a pound doesn’t prove it’s accurate. Why not take your load cell down to your steel supplier and compare its reading(s) to their magnet’s readings. Both load cells could be wrong but at least you would have a clue if your unit is close to a proven one.

It certainly appears the magnet does what is supposed to do. The made in China issue is certainly a thorny one with no good answer. Even products from the reputable old line American companies are likely as not to be Chinese made. Allen Bradley, ABB, Ingersoll Rand etc. have offshored. Right now I need a two ton trolley for a chain hoist. A new CM trolley is $700, and it's made in China. Vevor wants $72 for two ton trolley. I cannot fathom that CM's Chinese trolley is $500 better.

You are 100% correct. A lot of the name brand stuff we buy is all made in China. Big MFGs all going overseas. How can you buy strictly American. Even when it came to buying a new lathe, I didn't want China or Taiwan junk. Lion was the only choice I had, thank God it was a good choice. Even the food we buy is made in China. This country sold out a long time ago and nobody paid attention.

Vevor... BBB issued them an F rating complete with a warning. Over 400 complaints this year alone. Ever notice just how many fing products they get people to review? In exchange for your reputation they send you a product. A product that most likley has been screened before it shipped. What's the value of your word? When you can't find a quality tool who do you blame? A political party, a country, a manufacture? Anything but the consumer purchasing solely on price...

@@TopperMachineLLC It is absolutely nuts how many products they get people to review. I think I watched my first review a month or so back. Since then I think every single creator I follow has done a review. It's interesting to hear your interaction with them. I post my messages as a warning to all. It's a wicked slippery slope when companies that don't even manufacture a product can saturate markets with products... Products just good enough for just long enough. Enjoy your Christmas and New Years. You've accomplished a lot this year. May next year be even better!
