For me, I hate the screen for these Topping products. They just look like my cheap digital alarm clock. Doesn't give me a sense of pride owning these. Usability wise, sure they are good, but aesthetically wise, Topping has a long way to go.

I got the A30Pro last week and love it. The rca/xlr paththrough is only active when the unit is turned off which is perfect because you can play music over your speaker amp when it's off and quickly switch to the headphone amp by turning it on. By connecting it this way I unfortunetly got a ground loop which seems to come from my PC, but it's easily fixable because of that nice ground lift switch in the back.

SACD often contains different mastering then CD layer. Depeche Mode's Playing the Angel is so much different and so much better on SACD to be perfect example. It's quieter, less compresz ect.. Also flat transfers from analog tapes are great. It's good to look for opinions on Steve Hoffmann's forum, I'd learn there that not always sacd is better. Also I would suggest to find SACD and rip them into DSF files but do not convert into PCM.

I kinda wish you showed us how the speakers worked with these units. I have been struggling to find a easy to use dac/amp that can do speakers and headphones easily with my setup using balance speakers and balanced headphones without having to unplug or turn off a unit.

I have a schitt stack with a 3 and magni, going into a Topping speaker amp. When you unplug the headphones it automatically functions as a preamp. You can do the same with this stack too, probably works better considering everything will be topping.

This A30 Pro is an interesting mix for a desktop amp. Balanced or Single Ended inputs but the internals are all single ended making the headphone outputs all single ended even though you have an XLR and Pentaconn presentation. I guess at these output levels that doesn't matter and in fact may have some advantages (even if it sounds confusing) Also helps with the smaller form factor. The balanced passthrough output is still balanced through the 1/4 TRS and the single ended output is still single ended through the RCAs. This makes for an interesting choice vs the A90. I guess if you really want balanced from input to headphone outputs and need the pre (vol control) for powered speakers those are the only reasons to go for an A90? Maybe same for the SIngxer SA-1 as well?

An unbalanced signal is passing to a balanced output passively, at the receiver you get the difference rfi removal benefit, what you loose is output level, since nothing is added to signal (you get 1x signal instead of 2x signal). So in this case you get 2 volts max level, instead of the full balanced 4 volts. So if you have level dependant noise, you half the snr to that problem. All those are important only on long cable runs. Benchmark media cables are soo good.

100% SACDs are mastered differently. In fact when you downsample the tracks to 44kHz/16 bit blinded listeners can't tell the difference. The audible difference that fools attribute to higher frequency higher bit depth is entirely due to it simply being a better master.

@@drbarjoyaibaharu3734 The DX7 Pro by itself works well for my IEMs (both Shure and Thieaudio); but, it seems to struggle a little driving my Aeon 2 Closed -- works, but adding the a30 pro made it a lot smoother, I think. Whether it was really worth $350 (plus $30 for the interconnects) is maybe questionable, but I'm glad I treated myself.

Hey Zeos, great review. Question; my A30 PRO produces some heat. Getting the D30 PRO soon. Is it best due to heating to keep these a bit apart and not stacked, or doesn't it really matter? Everywhere I see these two they are stacked. Some people say never stack AV equipment on top of eachother, but these units are seemingly meant to be stacked, no?

@@r00s. not really, first, they never stated that it was balanced output in the first place, just balanced inputs and so that is not deceptive at all. Second, it is advantageous for consumers since the 4 pin xlr, 4.4mm and 6.3mm outputs all output the same power and so no need to purchase aftermarket cable to be able to take advantage of the higher power output of truly balanced outputs.

I believe that Apple uses the Cirrus chips. I think it is the implementation of dac chips within a whole system that determines how that system sounds. I have two portable dac/amps from the same manufacturer that use different brands of dac chips, the two devices sound different but they are also made with other different components thst could account for the difference. I prefer the unit that has the AKM chip but it isn't by much.

My lil Micca Origen+ is finally dying and causing me so much issues lately. I've been wanting to upgrade for a while now, to some kind of stack set up. Rocking stuff like the 990s/6XXs, and really want to upgrade to something else in the future like a 1990s or Sundaras (not sure if planars need different stuff?) What I've been looking at has been a lot of these Topping stacks, and I feel like the A50s/D50s sound like the way I wanna go? But the features and stuff of the A30/D30 sound so cool and interesting. I'm def on the fence about these. They're both a step price point for me, but I really love how they look as well.

@@slobry None, yet. I'm looking at schitt products now - heresy and iemagni, but they aren't available in europe right now. Between a30 pro and a50s i think i'd go with the first. It's more expensive but it has a lot more power and with the a50s you'll need balanced cables with more demanding headphones and will end up spending more money anyway.

How does this amp compare to the internal headphones and IEM amp(s) on the RME ADI-2 DAC? From Zeos’ assessment, I gather there would be some coloration added, but what about dynamics, tonality, harmonic distortion, etc ?

I have spack of Topping A90 and Gustard x16. I used to have D90 . Gustard is better imo. I also bought RME for it's dsp but I've sold it few days later. Well, it's nice sound processor but as a Dac it has no start to both D90 and x16. So the RME's headphone output for me, sounded worst then RME's output to A90. It's good , powerful and quiet but still not as good as A90. Those chinese companies messed a lot on market lately, a can't imagine going anywhere better.

@@picapica201 it eats my 600 ohm T1 gen 2s for breakfast. Granted, they're a bit more sensitive than the 880s, but it honestly doesn't even break a sweat with the T1 so I have no doubt that it would handle 880s.

SACD - yes, if it sounds noticeably better, it was mastered better - which isn't hard to do considering how shitty so many records have been mastered.
