As a Brit. Hearing Monsoon on TOTP and seeing Shelia on Grange Hill as a young guy....was and still is magical.... as an 70'ish turning 80'ish child..... fond memories, and Shelia Chandra (Monsoon) was one of them. Growing up in a turbulent UK the Indian communityl has a special place in our hearts.

This recording has rocked just about every nation there is on this planet! This recording is just as hot and fresh today as was back when it first came out in 1982!! Sheila Chandra was just incredible! She was my first true exposure to the music of India, and I now have right at 100 cds from India! she is personally responsible for me falling in love with all the music of India! Sheila Chandra the amazing singer for Monsoon (Ever so lonely, etc) tragically is now effectively mute!! Following voice problems, Sheila returned to live performances for a short while in 2007, after a gap of 14 years, giving concerts around the world with WOMAD and other festivals. She also featured on the first 'Imagined Village' album in that year, and toured the UK with them. In 2010 she signed her first book to Vermilion (Random House) entitled 'Banish Clutter Forever - How the toothbrush principle will change your life'. Unfortunately this innovative artist's voice has continued to deteriorate. In 2010 Sheila developed 'Burnt Mouth Syndrome' (for which there is no known cause or cure) and now experiences long-lasting neurological pain triggered by speaking. Singing is completely out of the question. She is effectively mute, and communicates in person largely through handwritten notes and very basic sign language. She says she considers the trilogy she made for Real World to be the best work of her musical career.

Beautiful vocal melody beautifully delivered. Plus the instrumentatation is nice. Loved it when it came out, but hadn't heard this song in many years till someone re-introduced me to it today. This song puts anything I've heard from the Lanas, Rhiannas, Katys, Lordes, & Adeles of the world to shame, imo. The singers today deemed "Queens of pop music" mostly bore, disappoint, or irritate me, unfortunately. Is it me, or is the state of popular music in a sad state nowadays? And the artists I do like today don't get nearly the recognition they deserve.
