I've just turned 63 and I've followed Phil and Lizzy since 'Whiskey in the Jar'', so that makes it ........a bloody long time! Never tired of listening to his songs and very importantly, his words. Like most things to do with Phil and Lizzy his lyrics are so heartfelt, real and at times cheeky but very clever.....who else has a song which rocks out and mentions the band members as you sing along (Chinatown, 'Having a Good Time'), absolutely brilliant. Anyway, IMO, no-ones matched him........and never willMr Cheers

*These are the lyrics as sung in the video / song. Slighty different from the Corrs version :-) The girl's a fool, she broke the rules, she hurt him hard This time he will break down She's lost his trust and so she must know all is lost The system has broke down Romance has broke down This boy is cracking up This boy has broke down She plays it hard, she plays it tough But that's enough, the love is over She's broke his heart and that is rough But in the end he'll soon recover The romance is over This boy is cracking up This boy has broken down This boy is cracking up This boy has broke down (Piano part ) I've been spending my money in the old town It's not the same honey, wenn you're not around I've been spending my time in the old town I sure miss you honey, now you're not around Now you're not around this old town Ola (Trumpet solo) This boy is cracking up This boy has broken down This boy is cracking up This boy has broke down This boy is cracking up This boy has broken down This boy is cracking up This boy has broke down >> Fade Writers: Philip Parris Lynott , JAMES STEWART BAIN

Brilliant. Like many people (probably) I thought the Corrs wrote this for so long because it seemed to suit them so well. Sad that I think Phil only got to about no 47 in the charts with it really when in many ways it's the most perfect rock ballad ever. And it has both the trumpet solo (which gives depth to the Corrs version along with Caroline's violin), and this has a fantastic piano solo, it is better than the Corrs cover overall...though Phil's voice was perhaps not the best in places. The piano solo is incredible (I'm a pianist) and can't replicate those arppegios in thirds to save my life....would take a good classical pianist. Must be at about 140bpm!
