A 3rd round pick for a top-pair shutdown D-man, the top one available at the TDL? Penguins would also likely use their last retention slot to bring him down to 2 million for the rest of the season... He is definitely worth at LEAST a 2nd + a B-level prospect minimum and that is with no retention.

I’d love to see the Sens trade for Jamie Oleksiak if the Kraken were willing to trade him. 1 year left after this year at $4.6mil. He’s a veteran D, 6’7 and 250lbs but can skate well for a guy that size and can be a shut down D man. He could play PK and take that pressure off one of the top 4 D, and he would be a great mentor for Klevin. Would give the Sens some added size and grit. Yah, you’d have a $4.6mil D man on your 3rd pairing, but when injuries come up, he can play on your 2nd pairing for sure. And next year if they decide to give Yekumchuk some time with the big Club, I could totally see it being like Methot/Karlsson 2.0. (Not saying Yekemchuk is as good as Karlsson in his prime with Ottawa, but I’m just saying stylistically and the way they would compliment each other other’s style).

When Pierre Poilievre takes over, I wouldn’t be surprised if he puts pressure on the NCC to get things moving forward. He is the MP in Richmond (a 20 minute drive from the west end of Ottawa), he knows Ottawa and he knows how important it is for Ottawa’s hockey team and Ottawa’s economy to get an arena district in downtown/Lebreton Flats. It makes sense to get this done, and get it going asap and have land that’s been vacant for so long put to use that will generate revenue, tourism dollars, provide jobs, etc. It makes sense and Pierre would put the pressure on to get it done.
