Thank you so much for the clear explanation! There is only one thing that I do not undestand: the 0,25 weightage introduced at minute 2:38 is always the same for each criteria? Or we are able to choose the weight that we like the most? Like for example 0,40 for the price, and 0,20 for the other 3 criterias, giving always sum 1. Thank you very much!

can we use the Pairwise-Comparison matrix method in topsis to do weights
@manojmathew52873 жыл бұрын

Thank you so much for the video. I was very confused with TOPSIS and AHP. I want to ask if in TOPSIS the weight can be different from 25 in each criterion or if I want to change the weight of each criterion I must do AHP? it is like this how both methods work? Hope you can help me.
@manojmathew52875 жыл бұрын
yes for finding the weights you can use AHP and for calculating the final rank of the alternative you can use TOPSIS. You can change the weights of criteria as per decision makers preference.

I don't understand a single step: during normalization, for the first column (Price ) why do you use the formula x/SQRT(...)^2 instead of 1-x/SQRT(...)^2 ? In the video about normalization we learned that vectorial normalization for cost criteria is 1-x/SQRT(...)^2.
@manojmathew52875 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct i.e. in vector normalisation 1-(x/sqrt(..)^2) is used in case of cost criteria, but if you do so in the case of TOPSIS, then the performance value of alternative with best value(200$) will be normalised to maximum value, and while selecting the ideal best you cannot take minimum value. Please refer the part where i have taken : 1. minimum value for ideal best and maximum value for ideal worst(cost criteria) 2.maximum value for ideal best and minimum value for ideal worst(beneficial criteria)

Hi. How do you define benefit and cost criteria? Does the criteria need to be evaluated by the expert or we can simply determine whether the criteria are benefit or cost based on their characteristic? For example: If the criteria are something that related to money, then it is cost criteria. Thank you in advance!
@manojmathew52874 жыл бұрын
The nature of criteria is defined by the decision maker. Just check whether lower value is desired or higher value is desired. If lower value is desired then the criteria is defined as cost criteria, if higher value is desired then the criteria is defined as beneficial criteria. An example: -for a person who is selling something, he wants the product to be sold at higher price, so in this scenario price will be a beneficial criteria. -for a person who is buying a product, he wants the product to be bought at lowest price, so in this scenario price will be a cost criteria. So, decision-maker defines the nature of the criteria.

@CEDMOOLARAJASREE3 жыл бұрын
Dear Professor, Same formula (vector normalization) has been done for beneficial and non-beneficial criteria. Is that correct? or do we have to use separate formula for the criteria.
@manojmathew52873 жыл бұрын
That's the formula given by the maker of TOPSIS, so people use that formula, but this normalization results in rank reversal in TOPSIS. You can modify it, publish it and name it as RM-TOPSIS (Rajasree's modified TOPSIS).

That was a great explanation. Thank you! I have just one question that wasn't clear from your video. Is the "weightage" based on the number of criteria? In your example, there were four criteria and you used 0.25 as the weightage. If there were five criteria, would you use 0.2 as the weightage?
@manojmathew52874 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I assumed that all criteria are of equal weightage, so in case of 4 criteria, 100%/4=25%=0.25. There are many methods by which you can define relative importance of criteria. Please go through the web page for more details. mathewmanoj.wordpress.com/multi-criteria-decision-making/
