I've been watching you for a few months now and after this video, I went to the range and tried to shallow the club. To my surprise, I took it easy and hit some short shots to get the feel. When I went to really try it I was shocked at how far the ball flew. I must have hit it at least 20 yards further than ever before. I am playing tomorrow and can't wait to practice some more. This is awesome. Why I didn't know this when I was your age is beyond me. Thanks Clay...

Late to the party but wanted to comment on this video… I’ve struggled with low hits on the face and towards the heel since I’ve started playing golf (5 years ago) particularly with driver and sometimes fairway woods… the whole “flipping” thing was killing me and until I watched this video I didn’t realise I was doing it. Watched this video a couple of days ago and just had the best range session I’ve ever had. I’ve still got work to do but I feel I’ve got feels and drills that I can work on every practice session from now on. Brilliant information and easy to understand.

Great video Clay and I have been hitting my driver on the heel for so long now. No one has ever been able to help me correct this problem and as you could imagine it's been very frustrating. Look forward to trying your swing drill soon. Thanks!

Hat-game is strong!!! I like the black underside for glare-mitigation. Your videos have helped me a great deal. I just need to commit to practice. There hasn't been one of your videos that haven't "clicked" with me and my swing. It is like you are talking directly to me. Appreciate the hard work on the video, keep it up bud!

Very helpful. I'm prone to heel hits. One fix I found for that is to align the sweet spot behind the ball at setup by hovering the driver a la Jack Nicklaus. Aligning the sweet spot with the driver on the ground seems to contribute to heel hits. Two other fixes I've seen for heel hits are to stand closer (not a typo) to the ball and secondly maybe grip down on the driver for control. And you also just proved that we don't a new driver every year. Gotta dig out that old Ping Rapture.

Found this out yesterday. I sliced 2 and guy told me I was too into out and not opening my body. I always thought into out would fix my slice so I started manipulating that path, which is good but I’m an arm swinger, never found a huge problem with it because I carry over 250 which I’m happy with but so inconsistent and I’m leaving a lot on the table

Thanks for the info. Do you have any videos in relation to hitting the clubface square in relation strictly to the heel & toe? I tend to have issues not just hitting square up/down but left/right as well and not sure why.

Great video Clay. I am going to try shallowing my driver. Do you have any videos to avoid hitting the ball on high part of the club face?
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
We don't have any specifically on that but you more than likely have the ball too far back in your stance and or you're chopping down into it. I would search our channel for "high driver" to find videos on launching the ball high with the driver. Best of luck! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Great video as usual Clay ... I also watched the preview video and what we're gonna have to do good sir is ask you to cut back on the number of visits to the local Golds Gym ... Your head is way behind the ball at impact? Also, left heel lifted up. Whole body jumped up right after. Only left toe touch the ground during follow thru?

If you don’t have the foot spray or can’t find the powder version, try using a chalk pen...you can get them from any stationary store. They are the fat pens you use to write in windows.

What confuses me is that the initial setup is now extremely different than your body position when you actually make contact. Maybe this has been my problem... I've always thought that the lineup needed to be an exact image of your body position at the instant of contact.
@TopSpeedGolf4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ken, yeah, the setup position is not going to be the same as impact for the better players. This is because there are forces acting on the club at impact that don't allow you to be in the same position.

So I keep swinging my drivers and woods and the head of all them keep breaking off and idk why I’m doing this and it’s starting to get annoying since I have to buy my 3rd driver of the month. When I’m swinging I’m not hitting the ground so idk what’s going on.

Clay, I like the idea of opening up so everything can come through without flipping BUT a lot of the times I try to do this I either smother the ball (doesn’t get airborne) or hit crazy pulls to the left. How do you open up without also shifting your club path left.. Any ideas?

Starting at 11:21, I watched your swing in slow motion (0.25x speed) and you did none of the things you described in the drills. You did not shallow. You did not get your hands low (or squat/sit). Perhaps you did get "open" on your left side (maybe/maybe not). Now I'm confused.
@TopSpeedGolf5 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks for watching. I went to watched the video and I see that he is doing all those things. They are pretty subtle. The butt end of the club is pointing outside the golf ball when the lead arm is parallel to the ground in the downswing. That would be shallow. His head is a little lower at impact then he was at address. This would be the squat. His hips are definitely open at impact probably 40 degrees. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

I have a major issue with heel strikes but only with my driver and 3 wood. I’m right handed. I’ve tried setting up a farther from the ball and addressing the ball with the toe of the driver lined up with the ball and I’m keeping my eyes o the ball and trying my best to hit ball with the center of the face. But no matter what I do the centrifugal force of my swing is pulling my arms and club face away from body and I’m hitting the ball on the extreme heel almost every time. The only way that I’ve found to hit the center of the driver face is to aim to hit far inside the ball. I’ve even tried to aim to hit the toe but I still the heel. So now I’m aiming so much inside the ball that in my mind I feel like I’m going to miss the ball entirely on the inside, but instead of missing it, I hit the sweet spot. But this is not sustainable as sometimes when I aim so far inside I hit far out on the toe. I have a Swing Byte swing analysis device on my driver and according to the app by swing is 8 to 10 degree inside to out so my problem isn’t an over the top swing. My club face is closed to the path so I should be hitting a draw but I’m hitting the ball so far on the heel that the ball shanks to the right. I’ve also been implementing TSG principles and I’ve check my swing on video and it looks pretty good in relation to the TSG principals. I need some help. I can’t solve this heel strike issue with my driver. FYI, I don’t have this issue with my irons. If anything I hit toe strikes sometimes with irons but rarely the heel.
@TopSpeedGolf6 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, you're on the right track with intentionally striking the ball off the toe. You'll eventually adapt and get a better awareness of the club face. It's hard to say what might be happening with your swing without seeing it but if you're swinging that much from the inside then the club is moving in the direction that is going to promote heel strikes. It might be helpful to feel like you're swinging over the top. Also, your hips are most likely moving toward the ball in the downswing instead of opening up. I would focus on your hips opening up more and moving away from the ball on the downswing. I hope that helps. Play well! Quentin | TSG Instructor

Chew gum , rub your belly clockwise with one hand and your head counterclockwise with the other hand while standing on one foot. Got it!! :) Pull or push the club. Your choice. Either method is widely used. If strong and not very flexible, push the club. That's using right side muscle power to generate clubhead speed. This is the intuitive way most people want to hit a golf ball. This is a method widely used on the Champions tour where a lot of guys have a gut and have lost their flexibility. You will notice how they don't make a full shoulder turn and the club is short of parallel on the backswing and they don't have a full finish , If weak and flexible, pull the club and let physics do the work. This method is widely used on the LPGA tour. Full shoulder turn and club to parallel on the backswing and they have a full finish to the swing where the clubshaft is wrapped around the neck. at the end. Either way, your number one thought on the downswing is to make sure you have forward shaft lean. I don't care what anyone says, you CANNOT have too much forward shaft lean unless you hinder the release of the club by locking your wrists, which comes from tensing up the muscles in an effort to kill the ball. Loose and relaxed muscles cannot hinder the release of the club no matter how much shaft lean you TRY to put in because those loose muscles cannot overpower the centripetal force placed on them by the mass of the club as it accelerates through impact. Think forward shaft lean. Think that the hands have to get way past the ball before the clubhead ever gets there. No matter if you push the club or pull it.

Way to much instruction. No golfer can keep more then 2 shot swings in their head. Here is what I believe you need to know and I have 50 years of experience: 1) Make sure you are 110% comfortable with how far the ball is from your body based on your swing. 2) If you are a right hander and are slicing place the ball much closer to your left foot and the opposite if you are hooking. 3) If this does not work for you then you are probably not allowing your forearms and wrist to rotate. 4) Remember the last 25% of your swing should be the most powerful and point the toe of your club towards your target. Every swing is different but if you follow this advice it should probably help.
