You don't realize how good this guy is by just watching him on TV. When you put him up against average or even above average tennis players you really see how he has mastered the sport, and he seems almost immortal.

@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial Simon, I hear you laughing on that one! I am glad you agree that shot from Fed was just ridiculous. I would really like to see a video where you or Alex talk about the strategy of a pro player during points. For me Federer is the GOAT, so for instance, I want to see a breakdown of his tactics during a rally, say for his top 10 best points. By breakdown of strategy I mean talking about his ball placement, shot selection, why slice or topspin or flat shot, why he went for a body serve at 0-40 up or why serve & volley, etc.

OK, so … watching this video, and seeing how astronomically good he is at tennis - it actually gives me a whole new respect for his opponents that are able to beat him, especially Djokovic, who beats him (I hate to say it) pretty regularly. It seems to be the mental side of the game which opponents employ in-match - to make it so the opponent cannot just hit these types of automatic put-away darts. .. Also, I think that Federer doesn't play with the type of freedom and joy that you see in this video anymore in-match, like he used to during his hey-day of 2004-2007. As a huge Fed fan, that is what I want more than anything else to see (and you do see flashes of it) - that pure unbridled confidence and joy in the game. I think that if he is worried too much about being consistent - about missing shots, or, not playing "percentage tennis," that is when he loses that sort of joy and verve, which is *his* brand of tennis.I honestly think he has fallen into the mire of trying to "out-Djokovic Djokovic" - with his brand of steady, rock solid (boring) tennis. I think Federer can't handle to see Djokovic's chest beating (one of his defining characteristics) after he wins a big point against Federer in which his philosophy of play won in the end of a long point.
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial
@TopTennisTrainingOfficial 4 жыл бұрын
Very valid points, I think he lost his unique style of an all-court game and almost let his ego get the better of him "I'm gonna beat Nadal and Djokovic at their game" instead of using all his weapons, the serve and volley, chip and charge, attacking any short ball, slice and dice. The slower courts made it harder for him but he does get caught up in their games
