I've been successful using foam grasshopper flies. They come in 3 natural colors to follow the season. Light green, an almost od green, and then a brown. They match the color cycle of a grasshopper from spring, summer and fall. They come in several sizes but I've found the smallies like the larger size. Great top water action!

I would recommend wearing a bandaid or some sort of protective cloth on your trigger finger because if you catch a big one the heat of the fly line running on the skin will actually burn your finger... happened to me before

Wear protective cloth if u are catching big saltwater gamefish or big freshwater game fish but I’ve been fly fishing for bass and reds for a while now and I don’t even use a protective cloth for big red if they start taking like let them run let them take you to the reel.

See if there is a fly fishing club in your area and join it. Look at youtube videos on casting techniques from Orvis. Practice on grass too. Enjoy!

When they grab it, just strip line until you're tight with the fish and then set the hook. Gives em time to turn and then you hook them in the corner of the mouth instead of the lip.

fly fishing is so much fun, the fight on a fly rod is so different. It's like trying bring a fish in with a 9 ft buggy whip, you have to play the fish out, you can't just horse the fish in. I highly recommend it, it is addictive!!!!! Great video again like to see more fly fishing videos.

The thing to do when they jump is to bow 🙇 to the fish to take the fish jump and so the weight of the line is less and the fish has less chance to throw the lure

I use the reel to get the fish in, I dont like a pile of line at my feet to get tangled in...I have a galvan torque that will spin freely in retrieve so after setting the hook I hold the line against the rod with my index finger and spin the spool to take up slack line with my other hand then start reeling in the fish...actually lost a nice one due to a tangled mess of line after stripping the line in

You miss them when don't count down. First bite is a crunch down and then the bite. Count 123 then set it...not on the blowup.

The weight is not like the action as in the rod like normal bass fishing it is the actual weight of the line which helps get the bigger more wind resistant flys out

Nice vids!! Loving the fly action and making me antsy to get out. You might consider a strip set instead of raising the rod. Much better setting power for a bass with harder jaw bones. Raising the rod (answering the phone) is great for trout!

Love the fly fishing content and you are good at it. All I do is FF and yes, even the dinks are fun. Back in Feb I went down to the Ever Glades and caught bass and snook on the fly and for the first time too a Go Pro. Check out my channel and watch some of those vids. Yes, you definitely should get an 8 wt. I found that it is actually less tiring throwing big bass bugs with an 8 than a 5. Keep the fly vids coming. Again, you do a good job with it.
