So happy I found this video a few months back. I started trying at a spot I used to bottom bash for them. I was using store bought walk the dog lures and over a few sessions had fair few boofs/swirls but couldn’t get them to commit. Decided to make my own wooden lure. first session had an 80cm Jew smash my lure at my feet. Such a good feeling when a plan comes together. Really opened my eyes to what’s possible, completely contradictory to the rules I was told for chasing them

Oh wow, nice catch, great footage. I was sorta watching this while procrastinating then I was like, that looks ALOT like the Kalgan. When I was based down in Albany I used to walk the Luke Penn a lot. Beautiful river. Never caught a mulloway that large though, mainly just black bream. Well done mate.

@@fishingwitharon6113 pretty inspired mate. I have a nice little shallow local creek that produces soapies from time to time - I'm going to look like a goose throwing poppers but it's going to be worth it when I finally get that fish 💪

@@Cr-ud2nz not yet, still trying as recently as just a few months ago - but I haven't been at it regularly.

@@chuckingmetalfishing485 oh yeah fair enough if you keep going at it and following the patterns of them it couls easily be accomplished, jewies actually rise up much higher than you would think. I am trying to get a big one on a hardbody myself in the eastern part of sydney harbour on the south side, its a very hard challenge if youve ever fished this area for jewies but hopefully i can pull it off 🤞

I lost a top water mulloway in dunsborough yesterday, crack of dawn was throwing a sugapen and got bopped, 40mins of curry on my bream stick before it rapped me around some rocks. I had the biggest melt on the beach…. 💔

This lure was just over its cast weight and started losing casting distance but the rod loves it haha I haul up big herring off the rocks all day on it haha

By the color of the fish it must be in the river for awhile.. Bro you should definitely try throwing big paddle tails with 3/4 to 1oz maybe even heavier jig heads in that river.. Here in South Africa for the past couple of years they have changed the game in targeting these fish in rivers, harbors even from the surf useing them.. I'm not sure what you call them there but some call them swim baits.. All you do is trow and do a slow retrieve and maybe hopp it now and then.. These fish can be lazy hunters at times and wait to ambush their pray when they swim past.. They pick up the vibrations of the paddle tail with they lateral line and they don't leave it to go past them" trust me and try it.. you have such good results with top water and trawling lures I can just imagine how many more you will get on them.. It makes me wish we had such pristine rivers like that here🙈 and I'm sure there must be some monsters in there that come to spawn if the mouth is open.. Use colors like pink and white But also use abit heavier gear with the paddle tail so if you get into those 20 to 50kg range then you have a chance to land them👍 but I know you will😎💯
@fishingwitharon61133 жыл бұрын
Yeah certainly a resident, I haven’t tried much plastic fishing for these but would love to and daiwa just released the new 6.2” minnow plastics which has the paddle tail so pretty keen to find and fish the deep holes for these beasts, I have heard two stories of 20-30kg fish but thats it, I don’t think this river system would hold many massive fish because of how easy it is to fish and netting that goes on unfortunately.
