It's like after those lines about him hitting her, she musically smoothes back into something pretty and nice, almost like a victim of abuse trying to make everyone else think the relationship is perfectly fine. I love how Tori is constantly weaving the story, even without words.

I just adore this song. I like the feeling it evokes even though the story it tells is really quite sad. I can envision the delicate blue and white china teacups and plates on a well set table. It's really quite beautiful, but at the same time there is a current of ambivalence running through the background. Tori Amos has an amazing ability to capture an emotional snapshot and translate it into a musical expression. In my opinion she remains unparalleled. This is my favorite song on the DVD.

I have a better idea of what this song is about now. Those middle 8 lines: " You love to hit me boy" are not on the CD version of Little Earthquakes. I guess this song is not only about a relationship becoming cold and distant (my orginal interpretation), but also abusive. Tori is so raw and emotionally revealing here. Fantastic performance.
