The fact is, music students are a dime a dozen and most of them will never be heard. That's great that you're a flawless musician in your living room, but unless you're able to express the passion and charisma that Tori Amos can, no one will ever care about you. She isn't loved because she's the greatest musician ever; she's loved because she has the ability to draw you in as a performer. This isn't something that can be taught in school, yet it's the only thing that really matters, isn't it.

As much as I love her... she's not really playing during this performance. The piano is clearly still playing even when she takes her hands off the keys, and on the camera angles from above the piano you can see that the hammers are not hitting the strings. The piano keyboard has been disabled. I'm also pretty sure she's singing with a backing track and no live band. I have no idea why they did this, as she's perfectly capable of doing this exact performance fully live. The only thing I can think of is she didn't have time to get to the studio for the proper rehearsals and sound check, so they had to dub it like this for the sake of the broadcast.

90's tori was fvorite tori but i love you all the same... i loved you and your music back than 96 i was fortunate to grace your presence on a small side street in nyc and said to my girl friend, "hey its tori". so the gf told me i was smoken some good shite... so i didnt want to blow her spot like so many famouse peeps get that kinda attention but i kinda did. i was only 17.... so i said, "hey tori have a nice walk and enjoy your day, thanx for everything you do" and my confirmation was a "thanx and may you enjoy yours." she was much shorter than i pictured her.... yet i needed no such confirmation for the Lady i say i love lol....

Flashback to when music and performance sounded and looked REAL on “live tv”. I can’t take it with these pop songstresses nowadays!! Their voices all sound the same, or like, derived from the same 3 places, to me. There’s no REAL individuality I can sense in the sound of their music, even if they have great voices. By the time they get a performance spot on live tv it doesn’t even translate to me, because they’ve been vamping on TikTok for years already.

I agree that musicians who have had serious training are neither noticed or respected the way they need to be. However it is not necessary to brag on your capabilities with music theory and your creativity. Whoop-dee-do good for you! Plenty of creative people go unnoticed. This song is about the atrocities of female circumcision and a response to the betrayal of women in Alice Walker's book, "The Secret Joy". It's a tongue-in-cheek outcry. It's also interesting to note that co-inventor of the cornflake , Dr. John Harvey Kellogg, ran a sanatorium and held views that masturbation was a sign of psychosis. For females, a remedy for this was to apply carbolic acid to the clitoris. Ironically, a younger, struggling Tori did a commercial for Kellogg's "Just Right".
