I totally agree with you. This was my gf’s favorite record when it came out. I think it was because she too was a redhead and had a complicated relationship with her dad. She loved this song. We used to sing “when you gonna love you as much as I do” and laugh. We’d look at each other when Tori sang “never change” and wonder what was to be. She went missing later that summer. That fall her dad called me when they found her body to tell me she was pregnant at the time she was murdered. I’ve listened to this song so many times, and as the decades pass I hear new things. But some days I feel like it’s never changed.

The first time I heard this was on a cold Winter day in my car. I pulled over to listen, mesmerized, on an icy road under falling snow, living in a town I hated but couldn't leave. I didn't catch who it was on the radio. It was like the time I saw the most beautiful woman in the world on the Star Ferry crossing from Hong Kong to Kowloon, simply brush the hair out of her eyes, and I saw novels. I listened to the same station hoping to catch the song again and find out who it was. Some time later, I lay in bed late one night and the song came on the radio. I was transfixed when the phone rang. A very rare event in my tiny basement apartment. I didn't jump out of bed to answer it. I had to hear this song again, see the beauty in Hong Kong again, and learn who was singing. The phone rang and rang and then stopped. The next day my mother called me. She said, "Your grandmother died yesterday. I tried to call you."

This has to be one of the greatest live performances I've ever seen. The emotional immediacy of every line is staggering, it's the kind of song where you're almost riding along on it from moment to moment. At 4:57, as Tori's singing 'All the white horses', it almost looks as if the song gets too much even for her. A moment of truly raw emotion in a performance full of them.

Agree and I love the tenderness when she says “in my father’s glove”

Spent a week in the hospital with my dad recently, just after being introduced to this song for the first time. Had it on a loop in my head, and it made me treasure the time we had together so much. 💜

How anybody can be in that audience and not lose their ever-loving minds when she starts this song is beyond my ability to understand. One of the most beautiful songs ever created in the history of recorded music. Chills. EVERY. Single. TIME!

I lost my grandma unexpectedly at 12, the only woman I'll ever truly know as a mother. Tori came along and helped fill that huge void left by such an amazing woman. Thank you for being an equally amazing woman and inspiration, Tori 💖

I lost my grandad at 12. This song destroys me, but heals me at the same time. I miss him so much 😔

My grandmother loamed me the money for my first "professional" camera, for a class in college. But, I spent too much time taking pictures instead of printing them in the chemical lab, so I had to drop the class. I always felt bad because I never paid her back the money for it. But, years later, when she was mostly legally blind and couldn't see the butterflies anymore,I would use my phone to take pictures of the ones I saw for her. I could bring the flowers to her, but not the butterflies, so I had to capture them with a lens. I think I paid her back in the photos I didn't take for the class. The ones that I took for others and for her.

AGNES OBEL : more beautiful and her music is even more elaborate, as it's closer to classical music. kzbin.info/www/bejne/oGLamJR8f5Vqa5I&start_radio=1

All time favorite Tori tune. Last night I had a flotation therapy session and I had my own playlist i made on in the pod. When this song came on.... holy hell. I cant even describe the feeling of being completely surrounded by this song. Just feeling that building composition wash over me. The whole experience took me somewhere outside of the pod. If you float and like to listen to your own playlists, definitely add this track. Its amazing

This song is haunting and beautiful. It gives me chills. I don't know if Tori ever sings her songs the same twice. I love it.

She doesn't. Every concert is different. I saw her in concert as a teen.

I come back to this song and performance from time to time and have for years and will continue to. She is gripping and dripping with talent. Should have 550 million views if not a billion. First heard this about 10 years ago and come back to it annually. Cannot get through Winter without another listen.

"When you gonna make your mind, when you gonna love yourself as much as I do" always breaks my heart. Brilliantly beautiful. I don't believe is angels, but if they exist Tori is one... what a beautiful creature.
