Tori is my next door neighbour here in the South West Coast of England now.. (albeit the next meadow across as we live in a rural farmlands area). you dont see her very often, but everyone is aware shes here and has great love and respect for her. This song and "Caught A Lite Sneeze" are two of my favourites. By the way, she does read all the comments left on these reactions :-) Great video Dereck, much love from the United Kingdom x

She wrote the song after reading Alice Walker’s Possessing the Secret of Joy which centers around a character who experiences female genital mutilation. Tori is extremely deep and talented. She is a piano prodigy. Her lyrics are filled with metaphors and symbolism. You are being introduced to an incredibly important artist. And yes, there is A LOT more for you to listen/react to with Tori. :)

Fun fact: Tori Amos won a full scholarship to the Peabody Institute at Johns Hopkins University at the age of five, the youngest person ever to have been admitted. She was expelled at the age of 11 for what Rolling Stone described as "musical insubordination". It's pretty clear she didn't need the education.

It will be hard not to fall in love with her music and performances and her heart and mind if you keep exploring her music. She has been my favorite artist of any medium since 1996. For vocal performance alone, you definitely need to watch this version of ‘Caught a Lite Sneeze.’ It’s certain to be another ‘oh my GOD!’ reaction: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWOvladol5KGeZo The above song is played primarily on a harpsichord, so she keeps the rhythm by tapping on the piano instead of playing it in the above live performance. Here’s what the song sounds like with the harpsichord and percussion: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZa6pYWnpLiIhas She really is outstanding. Her piano composition and playing is unmatched in pop music. Her voice and the way she uses it are incredible, as you see here; she’s an astonishingly great live performer, who sounds better in person than on recordings. And her lyrics are poetry that will pierce your soul. That might sound hyperbolic, but keep listening and find out for yourself. Superficially, you mention a resemblance to Shania Twain, which is interesting. Twain was raised in the Ojibwe First Nation in Canada and is 50 percent First Nation, and Tori is descended from Eastern Cherokee American Indians on her mother’s side and her family belongs to the Eastern Cherokee tribal nation.

Idk why YT recommended me this: (Maybe because I play Tori every other day + I like to watch some reaction videos). but I'm happy it did. It actually reminded me how I met Tori Back in the day, and it was exactly with this very same performance. I'm from Argentina and honestly she's far from been popular here. Back in 1998 I stayed home on a Saturday night, and at that time late at night, MTV used to broadcast some VH1 shows here. So, I ended up watching Tori Amos Storytellers and my reaction was pretty much like yours. I started watching it, lying in bed, and a few songs later I was sitting at the edge of the bed with my face as close as it could get to the TV. I ended up euphoric, feeling like a fan. I've just could mot believe what I had saw. That very same week, I visited some records stores trying to get whatever I could find from here and came back home with Boys For Pele. Been a huge fan ever since. She's definitively a one way ticket ride.

In My Head, Hey Jupiter, Doughnut Song, Putting the Damage On, Playboy Mommy, I Can't See New York Full album songs written in the moment as recorded, as many of her shorter songs & b-sides were, but these 2 are really special...Bells for Her & Marianne Personal favorites not otherwise mentioned above...Purple People, Mr. Zebra, Frog on My Toe, Icicle, Glory of the 80s, Suede, Datura, Riot Poof, Witness, Way Down, Bouncing Off Clouds She's written hundreds of great songs, but I gotta stop somewhere. She was the youngest person to be accepted to the Peabody Academy at John Hopkins University at the age of 5 and with a full scholarship. They kicked her out at age 11 because she wanted to improvise more and loved rock and roll. Her father, a minister started taking her around to clubs and bars to get her some live experience and some of the only bars to let her play were gay bars. She first got a record deal in the late 80’s and the record company pretty much trued to make her into what they sought fit and she had a band called Y Can’t Tori Read. So the album went nowhere and didn’t sell and she came back in 1992 with her classic album Little Earthquakes it was her this time her music ideas her vision of what an artist she wanted to be. Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails is a big fan of her’s there was a rumor they dated also Maynard James Keenan from Tool is a big fan they did a live duet once. She is a force to be reckoned with thats for sure when I listen to her she just puts me in a trance

Torii Amos first US Hot 100 and UK Charts entry was "Silent All These Years" in 1992 (but failed to be TOP 20). Later that year the hit single was "Crusify" peaked #15 in UK and #41 on Eurocharts Hot 100 but failed US HOT 100 (was still a Rock Airplay Charts Hit on Billboard). "Cornflake Girl" was #07 on Billboard Hot 100 Bubbling Under, meaning #107. In 1996 Tori had her biggest hit when "Porfessional Widow (remix)" peaked #01 in UK and TOP 10 in many other countries - in US the song was #08 Hot 100 Bubbling Under (#108) but peaked #01 on Billboard Dance Charts. If you haven't seen it please react to Tori Amos music videos "Caught A Lite Sneeze", "Raspberry Swirl", "Spark", "Crusify" and "Hey Jupiter as they are really amazing. "God", "Pretty Good Year", "Past The Mission", "Talulla", "Jackie's Strengh", "A Sorta of Fairytale", "Glory of the 80's" and "Strange Little Girl" are also pretty good music videos and songs. Also don't miss her live covers of "Smells Like Teen Spirit" or the amazing "Precious Thtings" - here is a link of her live just voice and piano from 1991 kzbin.info/www/bejne/aGSneK2qntxmd6s ("Precious Things") / kzbin.info/www/bejne/fpKkemagfpyoecU ("Smells Like Teen Spirit") There is so much amazing works from Tori Amos you can explore. Tori did a Just Right commercial before she was famous. the reference to "never was a cornflake girl" is somewhat of a joke. but she uses it as a metaphor... in Raisin Bran, you have cornflakes and raisins. the metaphor is referring to girls who are the majority (cornflakes/popular) and the odd girls out (raisins/weirdos). the song is about the sheer meanness of girls when growing up. that they can be so awful to one another if they choose to be. the mean girls. the alice girls, alice in wonderland, have their own worlds... they go down the rabbit hole and escape through the small door, hence "rabbit, where'd you put the keys" reference. so to affirm your friends who are enemies bit, you got it. but now we call them "frenemies". As far as recommendations, there is literally endless tori out there. i got into her in 1994 when i was 14 hearing her record Little Earthquakes from 1992. you could go to a record store and there would be the album and about 50 bootlegs and B sides of songs never put out on any of her records. this happened all the way up to Boys For Pele (3rd album). it may have continued from there but i don't recall because i was probably out partying at that point in my life. There is a concert for R.A.I.N. in which Maynard from the band Tool and Tori do a duet of Mahammed, My Friend. Tori started R.A.I.N back in the day when fans would tell her about the abuse they suffered. It was a hotline for people who need help or to talk. It's still going strong today and has expanded. **Side tidbit, her second album "Under The Pink" (referring to under her skin) has a track titled Past The Mission in which Trent Reznor (wildly popular at that time) sang backup vocals. he loved her music so much he was willing to just be a backing vocalist. **more tidbit... with the promise of The Sandman Series coming to Netflix (F*CKING FINALLY) i feel i should mention Neil Gaiman. on her first record in a song titled Tear In Your Hand, Tori mentions "the dream king" and "neil". "If you need me, me and Neil will be hanging out with the dream king." this is a reference to the graphic novel series The Sandman by Neil Gaiman. one i HIGHLY recommend people read before they watch the series. This is about 20+ years in the making for older fans. every time something went into production it fell through. but i digress. Tori mentioned him in the song but they had not met. a friend of his hands him the record and says "hey, you are mentioned in this album." he took a listen and fell madly in love with her music (not hard to do). they were introduced and became instant friends. from then on, tori mentions neil at least ONCE on every record in a song. and since the sandman series was still going back then, neil would hide little tori shout-outs in each issue too. Fun to check out and find them. He also started making the character of Delirium, created before they met but after, UNMISTAKABLY based off tori. and wrote the insert for her covers album "strange little girl". lastly, check out her 80s hair band that flopped. they were called Y Kant Tori Read. some of those tracks were great. some... just funny. but, to quote tori, "i guess you go too far when piano tries to be guitar." i could go on but i won't. i am a total "ears with feet"... that is what she calls her fans. EWF 4-EVER. Toriphiles is another term used with her fans. xo tori talks cornflake girl: Tori Amos: This Morning (1994) - KZbin past the mission: Tori Amos - Past the Mission (Official Music Video) - KZbin muhammed my friend w/maynard for r.a.i.n.n. You should always remember that Tori began to play piano when she was two, so she probably has killed a few pianos! Her bands have been also quite good. Tori is brilliant and quite unique. You obviously like female singers so you must listen to Aurora, try Life on Mars, as she is one of a kind also.

Derek! Tori is known for her covers of other artist during her shows so....Tori Amos FROZEN Madonna cover. You might become a true fan after this. Tori's catalog and live performances are quite vast! She's performed over a thousand shows throughout her career.

At 13 she played at a gay club. Her first job I believe. Her father who was a minister would take her. Amazing. App her dad got grief from ppl saying how can you let your 13 yr old play piano in a gay club. Etc. I remember seeing an interview with her talking about ppl giving him crap for letting her play there lol

I got to see Tori in the 90s in Denver. She is a great performer. She truly does make love to the piano. My favorite of hers is "Spark" -- so haunting kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIewqHeabbuSobs

I just wish his commentary sounded a little more intelligent, but I am almost always happy to see when people admire or love her music. Tori is not Kate Bush she is Tori.

The voice on this performance has very little vibrato or shakeness, so you could have described it differently, has purity a pure and yes clear tone.
