What you said about not belonging to this generation made perfect sense to me. Today, singers tend to want to belt and hit you over the head with vocal histrionics, many having shrill sounds to their voices. Tori idolizes Karen Carpenter and sings with similar nuances, not to mention that she has a similar, deep, contralto range. Not only that, but she produced this by herself in her home studio, with her knowledge of multitrack recording equipment and software. She's brilliant. She has many covers not only of the Carpenters, but several other artists at her site

I think Joe said most of what I was going to say. Just to answer your question, Tori is only 20 years old here. She has a timeless voice and an old soul. You don't see many young artists doing music like this anymore and it's refreshing. Interesting afterthought. I left this comment just before you commented at the end. You ended up saying very much the same thing I did here. We are on the same wavelength!

Hi Kings! I thought I requested her cover of We’ve Only Just Begun? I see that in the Coffee notes. I usually start there and if you liked (I knew you would) I’d follow up with this song or another. Somehow, I may have mentioned this, I don’t remember but found the WOJB request. I did that one because you recently did the Carpenters version, so it would be fresh in your mind. I’d still like that one and I’ll go make a coffee purchase in a minute. Let me give you the back story on “Eyes”. It’s the Carpenters song that never was. Richard wrote the song with Cynthia Weil. Karen died before even hearing the complete song. 4 years after she died Richard sang the song with Dusty Springfield for his solo album, Time. Flash forward to April 2024. Tori is one of 8 invited acts to the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration. She was the youngest guest of the bunch (in the wide shot with all the people, performers and organizers). She sang two songs that night and “Eyes” was technically not a Carpenters song, so she sang it in the spirit of Karen. As she does in her Carpenters covers. Well, it was at a church (where Karen had her funeral service) and the sound was boomy and the crowd noise. So when she got home she made this version in her home studio. With backing vocals and harmonies. She used video and pictures from that night. That’s why some video wasn’t in perfect sync. It’s really an audio layer over the video in just some parts. So this is as close as we will get to hearing “Karen” singing the song she never did. You will see more in the We’ve Only video she did with Jim Wilkas. I want you to see that so, I’ll go fund that shortly and link it again. Maybe even refresh your memory by playing the Carpenters version just before Tori’s cover, be seated for that one.
