Lucky enough to sing with the Carpenters in 1974. I used to close my eyes and listen to Karen sing between shows and destroy drum kits (She was an epic drummer). Tori sounds EXACTLY like I remember Karen singing

Tori does covers of different artists' songs, but her covers of Olivia Newton-John's songs are surprising, given her vocal range is higher than Karen's. Tori effects a breathier, lighter sound more like Olivia. Not only that, but she's really smart with producing. She has a demo on her site in which she records each part of a Carpenters melody one at a time into a multitrack deck. She then plays back each part one at a time, then finally all together. She also can produce her own music on a computer with software. She's brilliant. One thing I find mesmerizing about her singing, besides the timbre of her voice, is her extended, beautiful vibrato ... just like Karen's.

Your reaction is like many others. There's some very clever, talented people in this world! And the work that's gone into this production is beyond remarkable. Kudos to Tori and the genius Jim Wilkas, who produced the audio and edited the vidoes to this masterpiece.

No auto tune was used...that is Tori's voice....what a delight to see how this vid was produced..mixing by ear with careful attention to detail. bravo!

You look like you just found your Grandma's favorite recipe that you thought was lost forever. Me too. I hope you check out more of her stuff...she has cover of Georgia on my mind, along with two original "Carpenters" songs on her website. Tori should be about to hit the big time, and we can say we knew her when...Thank you for the review, and for your service!

Thanks so much for doing this video. I discovered Tori just a few short months ago and was astounded first time I listened. Indeed, Tori's natural voice sounds a great deal like Karen. She doesn't try to be Karen. In fact she says that Karen Carpenter is irreplaceable and she sings tributes to the legend. For me, this is as close as I've ever heard to the real thing. You are right about the arrangements. Jim Wilkas is a genius as a producer engineer and completely recreated the Carpenter sound in this performance. Tori does sing a few other artists and also released an original. I can request that if you'd like. JBS 256 commented here as well as he is an expert on Tori and the Carpenters with a lot more detailed information. I love your genuine approach and look forward to more. Peace.

Hello sir! I’m Joe a friend of Ron’s. I just saw this post. I know how you feel, I was shown Tori by KZbin last October and it’s been a joyous ride since. Yes that’s Tori’s voice. The Wings of Pegasus channel analyzed her and this song and no pitch correction or autotune ore anything wonky. Pure vocals. Jim Wilkas also a friend, is the man behind this production and I didn’t see a link for him, so just adding a link to this song will take you to his channel. There’s a story behind how Jim met Tori and the collaboration was born but I suspect he can tell that better than me. What I will tell you is about a week ago I attended the Carpenters 55th Anniversary Celebration in Downey, CA. Tori was invited to perform there and I saw that performance and recorded her songs. If you click my name above it will go to my channel where the video is. The thumbnail of the video includes a picture from the last day of the event, it was 4 days, where Tori met Richard Carpenter. He was a surprise guest (not scheduled) and was introduced to Tori that night. The two songs were Yesterday Once More and the first song was Something In Your Eyes. I think you may know that was a Richard and John written song that Karen died before she could sing it. There will be an official video of the performance night but he also recorded the Richard and other interviews so he’s got a mountain of editing. I just posted my iPhone footage and while not perfect, is pretty good. Tori has a lot of short videos but also some full length ones too. Some are audio only but there are videos also. Some are Carpenters, other covers and fully originals. I’ll let Ron see what you’d like to do next. But I liked your heartfelt reaction. I know how I felt last October and the library wasn’t as full as now. Oh and BTW she can cover Olivia songs and do them justice. Her range squees higher than Karen but not as low. Really, she can sing anything, if you look at her catalog on the socials you linked. She just doesn’t scream and belt it out too much. More subtle and steady. Like Karen in a way.

@@jbs256 I watched your video. The sound makes it a little hard to distinguish her voice, but she still sounds like Karen. The smiliarity is amazing.

@@paulschmehl2124 sounds like is the operative phrase. That’s her voice, truly amazing. She has this velvety sound reminiscent of Karen and some others that lets her cover songs of that golden era like she’s in the mix. What a gift.

I know this song very well, and honestly cannot tell the difference between this gals voice and Karen Carpenter herself. I would also be willing to bet that if her vibrato was overlaid across Karen’s they would match perfectly. Bravo well done! I still maintain that folks with this kind of talent should be writing and singing their own music. good remakes are few and far between but once the original artist did them, there’s really no need to remake them unless you’re doing the nightclub scene to make a buck.
