Tories Wanting Pact With Reform UK

With Reform's almost doubling in the polls since the election, and Badenoch's failure to re-position the Conservatives in the same time, some Tories are openly talking about a pact with Nigel Farage in their client media articles. But what sort of pact do they think they can get away with?

Very disappointed with Andrew Gwynne. His comments about OAPs, Jewish people, cyclists, Diane Abbott and Angela Rayner were both disgusting and bang out of order. Very much against Labour's core values. His sacking and suspension is very much justified.

@@roberttaylor5997 I listen on earphones so I just lay them aside. I wouldn't not support him because there aren't many places I know that are so balanced, it' only about ten minutes of my life without youtube, it's hard but i'm coping!

​@@roberttaylor5997 Muted tabs and other programs is a local software issue to the PC or other device. The internet is not involved. The site will still register the same signal being transmitted to the device. If you have a program, or CPU usage or internet bandwidth monitor function the traffic is identical if you mute or not. (I got bored waiting on a very long phone queue once and checked).

@@andybricky1927 All the more reason to mute Phil's tab and leave it running, and continue listening to the audio on whatever channel you're actually watching. Unless KZbin detects muted tabs and discounts them from its viewing stats, which I doubt.

One of the most obvious benefits of leaving the EU is the fact that the UK doesn’t have to implement the EU’s AI Act, which has driven AI investment out of the EU and in some cases, into the UK. As part of the “reset” negotiations, the EU is calling for “cooperation” on AI.* But a UK government source said this call is likely to be rejected. Why would the UK reject an invitation to “cooperate”? Because in the EU context, “cooperation” means something very different compared to the word’s normal usage. Consider this analogy. You need to do some drilling at home. You don’t have a drill but your neighbour does. You ask your neighbour if you can borrow his drill and he lends it to you. That’s cooperation. In the EU, “cooperation” means, instead of just lending you the drill, the neighbour takes ownership of your house, writes the rules setting out the conditions under which drilling may take place, supervises you while you drill, and fines you for any breach of the rules. In the EU, “cooperation on…” means “put the EU in charge of…” The UK’s position outside the EU is a major advantage when competing for AI investment, and a major disadvantage for the EU. It is therefore hardly surprising that the EU is trying to slip “AI cooperation” into negotiations.

The UK are agreeing with the EU on AI in this case. A large part of those discussions is about defending against AI bot attacks which are targeting both the EU and UK. Neither party actually want to be cyber attacked by Musk/Russia/China.

Mogg and boris brexit opportunities came and went and so did Sunak and Truss -- they said they would deregulate but didn't quite get round to it despite the tory massive majority 19-24, a huge distraction...
