I have used a furniture wax or car wax as a mold release when dealing with fiberglass to keep it from sticking.
@flatbrokegarage2 жыл бұрын
Cool... I'll try that next time. Thanks for watching

Excellent job!! Fiberglass is definitely the way to go. My kids broke the pivot on the power nozzle of my vacuum cleaner when it was a year old - I patched it back together with fiberglass mesh/resin and the repair has held up to 6 years of constant abuse!

Perfect, nothing wrong with that. Show us the finished product when you get the other side done. Any plans to paint up the whole car as close to the original color? I have a ‘79 Lincoln resto mod, it was a frost blue, went slightly darker exterior, door jams and under the hood and trunk still blend nicely. Interior is mint so I didn’t want to do anything there. Came out great

I'll have to see down the road where I go with the car. Thinking the hood for sure

Make sure you scuff it up with 80 grid. I worked in a fiberglass shop for about 9 years I know for a fact that the resin won't stick to like snowmobile hoods it's a different type and peels right off. Your best to use thick cardboard with clear packing tape so the resin peels back off

Great! Good to know, I can't believe it worked.

Would that work as well if you used cardboard to help the mold, or is using the plastic a better option?
@flatbrokegarage2 жыл бұрын
Plastic is way better. Mainly the fiberglass will soak into the cardboard and make it hard to remove, also I don't think cardboard will bend as smooth as the plastic. Thanks for watching!

Back in my early 20s I worked at a shop. Was a insurance/ fleet body shop. We did stuff like paint all of the postal vehicles in our area, cabs that sort of stuff. Nothing shiny or nice 😆
