Forgot to say that I was in the same situation as far as the set up literally till 3:00 am and back at it at 6:00 am being careful not to rush but chomping at the bit to make the first chips 👍👍👍 I wanna say you are one of my driving inspirations along with my Dad being a master machinest of more years than I've been alive lol thanks man .

I figured I would go back and watch and see how you started. I feel like I am watching videos of myself lol. I grew up around machines because of my family's business but my first experience actually making something on my own was in high school working on a little Intelitek CNC mill that our teacher didn't even really know how to use. I had to wire the whole thing up and get the machine running just so we could use it. I moved up to a little Haas Mini Mill when I started college which in 2006 it wasent exactly the cream of the crop at the time. It is cool to see how you have progressed through your videos.

I run four Fadal 4020’s it’s a good solid machine, only when it’s properly maintenance of course. my employer is going to get two new Mazaks I might get stuck learning the new equipment I don’t know what my supervisor has in mind yet, he hinted to it but was really between me and one of my coworkers. BTW Sweet Tormach I like! It its unbelievable what you can do with a 3 axis mill.

I remember popping my CNC cherry I actually made the infamous knight chess piece lol I have to say that I have just taken off from there . Awesome video as usual man . I'm away from my shop on a family emergency and I'm having withdrawals from my CNC a 😠 I don't want to sound selfish but man it's the most addictive hobby I have ever had I'm sure you can relate .

Wow, congrats to a nicely finished installation. If you are wondering what coolant I use? Blasers Swisslube is my best choice and also a Hangsterfers. I also have a gallon of Cimcool 1070. Looks like you made good finish there. I usually shoot for 125 finish. Also nice to see the facemill. The Tormach's are very powerful, so yeah, the chips do fly. I think that in aluminum, especially 6061, I would use a rougher to blast out the material leaving just a teeny bit for cleanup.

I can't believe it's been this long, 4 years go by fast! Looking at the surface of that aluminum plate and I'd like to ask you if you prefer the finish that the super fly cutter gives.

NYC CNC Good news John. I ordered the tormach 1100, it'll be here on Friday, too bad I went for the facemill instead of the flycutter, I thought it would be more rigid and could provide a better finish, but I seem to be wrong after watching a couple of videos that depict the 2 different tools at work.

@saunixcomp @saunixcomp In my machining environment I have very important surface finish specifications to meet, how ever you look at them they can be expressed as, 125Ra, 125RMS, 125 Microinch. I hope you have been enjoying your mill, like the first month when I got my fist mill. The RMS (Root Mean Square) is measured per DIN4762/ANSI B46-1. On most surface finish gage settings it is also known as Rq, which according to my info at hand is about 25% greater than Ra.

Why do some of you guys think it's ok to compare a bench top CNC with things like Mazak Integrex machines??? First off, a Tormach is under 20K with lots of options, a used Integrex machine 8 or 9 years old in need of some love is still over 100K. The Tormach is for people like me who want a machine at home to do light work or where cycle times are not as important. I own a workshop with CNC machines like Haas and Mazak but at home having this stuff is crazy. Think about it people.....

@CHIBA280CRV I'm going to assume you are under the age of 20. Chances are this guy has a full time job and makes pretty good money. I'm sure he probably saved a little bit from each paycheck to buy this thing. My guess is you're still a kid going off of allowance or any oddball jobs you have managed to get over the time.
