nice video, and nice to see "that no page of the manual was harmed in the making of this film". Also why do you leave the doors open while milling?- thought there was an interlock which prevented it, esp at full speed!!
@tormachinc

+andy van We highly encourage having the doors shut while the mill is operating, but we left them open so we could record high quality footage. For this same reason, we do not have the interlock installed on this particular machine.

Door pressure switches are typically tied off for certain operations, it's a dangerous but extremely common. Sometimes it just makes sense, like running a dry pass and observing for any potential collision ect. Breaking a spindle or losing its mast p.o.s is an expensive oops

Very well explained. I help my students visualize the cartisian coordinate system on a simple graph, as absolute, and relative positioning. I try to instill gcode as conversational as possible in their heads, your demonstration on wood is a really great system!

Nicely done, Daniel. Seems like you covered all of the basics in a clear way. Thanks! Tom Z

That 1100 looks like a beast of a machine, for a home shop! I think the 770 will work great too as well, but that 1100 looks amazing!

Daniel, thanks to you and the Tormach team for putting these videos together. I found this video when working through chapter five of the manual. In the text I could not find any reference about designating a x and y 0 referenced to the part so I Googled up this video where you do specify the center of the part as x and y 0. If I'm correct about the text it may be worth editing the manual since many of the people running through that exercise may be new to CNC and could have their first project run an end mill through a clamp or similar.

+Shane Harvey We'll review this for a possible manual update. Thanks for the comment.

Few tips for touch off, if you have non ferrous mats like plastic and need a good touch off and ya lost your guage set, the plastic on a pack of cigarettes is about as thin and reliable as it gets where tenths matter

I have to buy one of these even the smaller 440 I just started saving money I'm disabled and I'm probably going to kick the bucket before I ever get one I'm so bummed out I got to get one period in the last few years I've taught myself how to run an old manual lathe I'm pretty proficient. An aerospace company gave me a hardinge speed lathe and I got to get up with all the old accessories like the old turret xcetera I threading head I got a good deal on a bunch of H&G threading inserts and it's a lot of fun even though it's kind of useless LOL it's not like I manufacturing anything. I got to figure out how to save some money I got to get the basic package at least

Hey boss! I thought I'd never buy one, but I reached out to tormach and they talked to me about all the financing options they had, I went through Geneva Capitol, the smallest down payment is a little shy of 2,000, I'm doing 5k down for my 10,000 machine, they had a 1000 discount at the time. My monthly payment will be 148 per month. Not sure if this helps.

good beginner part, but as a "first project", could you have shown us how to install the tools into the holders?, just a thought, as "manual" machine chucks and collet systems do differ to the tool holders used in these cnc machines also if Tormach has other videos on this, add a link in the description area, and\or add these videos to a playlist, and number them, so we can watch these in the right order.

Are the machine offsets on this machine for X reversed because you have a 4th axis fitted, i would have expected top right corner.

Hey, Great video, but I'm curious to the booklet your using when you refer to different chapters. I've looked online and cannot find the booklet for sale any where. Am I blind to where this is for sale?

He is referring to the Operator Manuals, which are always free. You can find them by going to this page, (www.tormach.com/support/mill/) click on the product you want, and then select the Operator Manual in the Document section.

Excellent and thorough video IMO. I wonder if Mr. Rogge is any relation to the late Clyde Rogge from Montana... knew him many years ago, real nice person... lived to be 87 or so... not a common surname-

So I can run any Linux CNC PC with parallel ports to run this instead of their controller?

just a thought here, if you are in a "metric system" country, how do you change the measurement system over to MM settings, as if you enter a decimal, one would assume here that from your videos the machine thinks this is INCHES, NOT the milimeters YOU thought you had entered.

Almost every other program uses tab as the standard "move between fields", and shift-tab to move in reverse.
