Got my Dad's Tormek last year and getting other parts to bring it back to life. It is the Tormek Supergrind 2000 and this video and others have helped getting it all working. Needed the XB-100. Thank you for this video.

Hej Montys Woodworks & Crafts, nice to hear! Yes, it's true when the angle and egde is perfect for the task it should accomplish, then the cuts are much easier to master, much more fun when turning - and also much safer! / Wolfgang

Hej Albe, the recipoe is on page 78 in the handbook. For a 45 degree angel it is: JS 2, P 65, Hole B - for a 30 degree angel it's JS 2, P 55 , Hole B

Why would you use this jig instead of the SVS-50 which can sharpen gouges AND skew chisels? Genuinely curious.

Settings please to sharpen the Crown Ellsworth Signature Gouge using the SVD-186. Please note that I posted a similar question on the video where you sharpened this gouge using the SVD-185. No need to reply to both. Thanks very much.

Hej William de Schneider, We here at Tormek use the setting for the Elsworth grind with 60 degrees as follows: JS 6 / P 75 / hole A. I hope this answers your question. Youl find this information also in Tormek Handbook or on our homepage as further grinds. / Wolfgang

Are you able to sharpen straight bevels with the SVD-186? Skew? What about woodworking chisels?
@TormekSharpening
@TormekSharpening 2 жыл бұрын
For the skew you use a SVD-50 Multijigg and depending what woodwoeking chisels you mean. different shapes need different jigs. SE-77 for straight chisels and planer blades, SVS-38 for all straight chisels, gauges, V-shaped/goatfeet up to 38 mm. SVD-186R for the spoonshaped chisels, gouges, V-shaped/goatfeet up to 36 mm.

Hello tormek, can you please tell us how best to grind Stuart Batty's 40/40 - Gouges? What is the setting for the SVD-186?
@lachievinny2805
@lachievinny2805 4 жыл бұрын
@Alois Zeckenkiller unfortunately you can’t use any jig settings on any machine to make a 40/40 grind, that’s the problem with that grind Has to be done by hand which can be very tricky but has a great reward when mastered

Hello there , recently picked up the T-8 and the 186 gouge jig but I'm seeing only a small fraction of my gouges can actually fit the jig . I bought this fine machine for keeping my premium gouges and wood tools in the same condition as when purchased . I really could use some help or advice to sharpen my gouges that are over the 35mm jigs capacity ? Great machine and very happy with my purchase otherwise
@TormekSharpening
@TormekSharpening 3 жыл бұрын
Hej Shimmiish, congrats for getting a Tormek T-8 sharpening machine. We are happy that you like it. Concerning your question: A 36 mm wide spindle gouge should fit into the SVD-186R Gouge Jig. If it not fits, you can try to take out the disc in the jig, you'll gain a few mm in the height. Square and skew chisels you sharpen with the SVS-50 Multi Jig with a max. width of 32 mm and parting tools, beading tools and roughing gouges to a max width of 50 mm. Hope that helps! Stay sharp! //Tormek

OK, now try and change the angle you use. I've been trying for 2 hours! 2 fucking hours, I've been trying to reshape this bowl gouge. If I bought the pro edge, I could have spent $9 on a 60 grit belt and then been on my way. Instead, I can spend $390 on another wheel. If you never plan on buying a gouge off someone who mucked up the angle, you never drop a knife and you never have to sharpen something that's not already pretty sharp then go ahead by this t8. But don't buy the t4. That's the model that is missing necessary bits, like the truing tool. You need that tool like shoes need laces, and yet you have to spend $105 on it. I hate this company. Sorby's pro edge has belts. The most expensive one is $25. Also that sg wheel that comes with this is a joke. "You can use the grading stone..." To what? Barely make a difference in grit for maybe 45 seconds? I hate this company.

Hej Richard, we are really sorry that you had difficulties to reshape the gouge you bought. This is not easy and needs some practice. Especially when you want to reshape a tool we would recommend to use a diamond wheel to do so as you have to take away quite a lot of material. For big reshapes you could even use a bench-grinder. (We also write about that in the manual.) Reshaping a tool is possible with the standard stone but takes long and you remove more material from the stone. The Tormek T-4 is a smaller machine but also very powerful and you can sharpen the same tools on it. The TT-50 Truing Tools does not come with the machine, that´s right. Stay sharp!
