Inspired a by a true story, Torn is a dramatic tale of parental love, families ties and belonging. It begins when Sarah (Holly Aird) believes she has seen the daughter she lost on a beach 11 years ago - the daughter who had, it was always assumed, tragically drowned. What follows is a devastating tug of love, as the now teenage girl (Jo Woodcock) is torn between her beloved “mother” who abducted her (Nicola Walker) and her biological mother, Sarah, who is a now stranger to her.

I'm left upside down inside out, the emotional intrusion...??? ABSOLUTELY INSANELY OUTRAGEOUSLY CRAZY to say the very least... So much to learn from and be reminded, it's okay to be angry, but don't let it consumed you, it will eat you alive...so therefore choose LOVE, LIFE, PEACE, JOY!!! Thanks for sharing this movie!!!🌻🌻🌻

I found this show intriguing and well written. What an incredibly hard journey to think your child died and there was no closure. The guilt the parents must’ve gone through for that moment when they became distracted as most parents do. Then how confusing for all of them to try to regain normalcy, in home that was grieving the lost years. It happens to the best parents to “over compensate” when trying to adjust after years of loss. Pain affects everyone differently, it’s when they can learn to let go of anger, is when life move will forward to the beat of a different drum. Enjoyed the story line and characters.

I can relate to this...my story is not for the faint-hearted, but then i have come across a number of others who have gone through worse than mine. The lesson is, without forgiveness and love, you will live with resentment, bitterness, malice and strife which result in more pain. Peace within us starts when we learn to forgive and let go.

I think that this movie is telling everyone alive what family means and what it means to be a parent. The depth that our love takes when we have the luck to be able to have and to raise a child. There are so many problems in this world because the majority takes it all for granted until someone or something takes it all away. Too often family members treat each other without respect and worse than they would treat any stranger. I liked this movie because it tried to shed light on all the involved parties in such a tragic situation. There is no black and white in life because the shades of grey are endless. TFS

Mountainryder I must admit, that I find your comment very difficult to understand in connection with my comment. My "child" is a grown-up person and is following her dream in life and since that was my goal in raising her, I am very happy about her happy nature :) I also was a teacher myself and loved my pupils which lead to very positive results. That`s all I can say about "teaching" my child how to "live" in today`s world. History teaches us that life on this planet has never been easy, quite the opposite. The only thing that makes life more bearable is to try to find a way to understand and love people more (especially your family) and to have friends whom you try to help when they need you. This is the only way to heal this dysfunctioned world with little steps over a longer period of time. I wish you all the best :)) Friendly greetings from Slovenia

This movie was quite the roller-coaster of unexpected outcomes; of an examination of how a parent's fear and unforgiveness can totally make everything worse, especially because a child is so conflicted. It is really a panorama of all the destruction happening to every single member of the family. Takes your breath away to see how much total destruction fear and hatred can do to everyone.

I can't think of anything more painful than having a child go missing like this. Never knowing if someone is loving her properly or sexually abusing her or if she's dead. Your life can never be the same again. Very heartwrenching. The father loves his daughter and is dealing with the pain of lost time raising her with the bottle of alcohol to numb his pain. But, the Mother is the true hero and never stops believing and looking for her precious baby girl. Very sad for ALL involved.

@@bananapeaches6370 Being over qualified is a red flag for employers. If a person has had much higher paying jobs in the past, or their credentials indicate they should be able to easily obtain a much better job, it is very likely they only plan to stay with this employer until the next better job offer comes their way. Investing in hiring and training a new employee, just to have them no call/no show to work a few days or weeks later because they found something better is a bad investment. Another common scenario is the person had a great job that they were forced to resign from for reasons that make them unhireable in their chosen field. An employee who is stepping down in life as a penalty for their past mistakes is very likely to be bitter and often have higher expectations than their new employer has to offer. Something else I learned recently, is that many law enforcement agencies will not hire anyone who is too "smart". There is a fear that someone who is too educated or intelligent will be more likely to find ways to exploit the system. A google search for "police high iq" will return lots of results on the subject.

There is a similar story - - "The Deep End of the Ocean" with Michelle Pfeiffer. In that movie, the kidnapped child was a 3 year old boy. The kidnapper was a woman who had a little boy of the same age who died - - so she stole another little boy to replace him. So, she had a birth certificate and a lot of records (but they belonged to her deceased son). The woman then married a man who had no idea that the child was kidnapped, just like in this movie. And, there is another similar story - - "The Face on the Milk Carton" with Kellie Martin. In that movie, the kidnapped child was a 3 year old girl. The kidnapper was a woman in a cult - - she took the child, and then didn't know what to do with her, so she gave the child to her parents, saying that it was her own child. So, the grandparents raised the child as their own (believing that she was their granddaughter). In both of those movies, there were also two siblings who had a hard time adjusting when the kidnapped child comes home. And, in both of those movies, the kidnapped child feels so bonded to the kidnapped family that the child goes back to live there instead of with the real family.

That final scene between Alice and Joanne was amazing. It felt so real. Extraordinary acting!!! Also, after briefly scrolling through the comments I realize there might be an underrated message that many viewers might've missed. *Parents do not OWN their children.* Every adult here (except maybe the biological father) was behaving like someone else was claiming property that belonged to them...property that NEEDED to be in their possession as opposed to loving this HUMAN so much that they would be patient, humble, and consult with her every step of the way. From being kidnapped in the first place to every adult's behavior after Alice's discover was so selfish...with varying severity of course but selfish nonetheless.

SPOILER ALERT!! Knowing this movie was inspired by a true story really gave for a lot of emotions. I hated them referring to the kidnapper as mum any at all. She was never her mum!! She was her kidnapper. Then the way the real dad acted towards his wife when his wife knew she had found their daughter was terrible. He never even apologized for how he treated her. Instead of following her daughter around the real mother should had hired an investigator to prove if that was her daughter. Then the real mother made mistakes herself after she got her daughter back. The one i blamed the most for everything that happened after they got their daughter back is the judge that left the kidnapper go free instead of putting her in jail. How much wisdom does it really take to know a kidnapper would not stay clear of the girl she had kidnapped and pretended to be her mum for years? And the real dad thinking that the kidnapper should had stayed in his daughter's life? These people were really messed up mentally IMO. Then he thought the kidnapper's husband should had been in her life. I felt sorry for him because he didn't know his wife kidnapped the girl but for pete sake you can feel sorry for someone without having him continue to have any part of your child's life. The girl was old enough to understand she had been kidnapped so makes no sense that she would want to ever see her again. It was understandable what it put her through the way her real mum and dad were acting and things they had said but going back to your kidnapper is not the answer. The real mum should had called the police right then and there when she discovered the card from the kidnapper to her daughter.

Eva you can forgive someone without condoning their wrongs! You are sending a message that someone can kidnap someone else child and it's ok as long as they take good care of them. It's not ok! And also sends the wrong message to the child. That family had their child stolen causing one of the worse griefs a parent/parents can go through. It's interesting to see the comments. Nothing is that cut and dry. It's strange what people will do when they are grieving/mentally ill. I think there is some understanding that the courts took this into account as well as the fact that she was so well taken care of, and yes, maybe totally releasing her was a bit too much, but remember in many places that the penalty for kidnapping is life in prison. The irony here is that if she had been held for 5 years, it might have given the girl to "re" bond with her family. Imagine being the "father" in this situation only to find out 11 years later that the girl that he knows as his daughter was abducted by his wife. There are so many nuances of this story that can't possibly be conveyed in a 2 hour movie that it's hard to sit back and judge what others have done, or not done, or what was right or wrong.

I thought English courts were strict and gave exemplary punishment but ruled suspended sentence here. The woman had caused the mother mental anguish for eleven years. Now all barren women will lurk about London streets in search of a lone or abandoned child to adopt. The family should have taken the birthday letter to the cops to get the woman arrested instead of taking the matter in hand. It would have saved a lot of anxieties.

The mother handled tragedy very badly, turning to drink and putting the focus of searching for her lost daughter above all else. The father on the other hand accepted the loss even though it was hard for him in order to keep the family together. When the mother had strong feelings that her daughter was still alive and apparently on a few occasions she upset some families in the mistaken belief that they had her daughter. The husband had got weary with all of this and I wouldn't blame him either. Yes, there was nothing wrong with having a strong belief that your daughter was still alive and definitely continue with the search but handle it in a more appropriate way. It is a terrible tragedy to have your child stolen but life is full of challenges and when we deal with them with faith and prayer, we become stronger as a result.

The judge who did not give her time to sit in a jail cell and think about her crimes is the one most responsible after she got caught. Her pretend daughter would not of had to feel so "torn" about mothers. None of the craziness would of happened if the judge would of done his job correctly.

I totally agree. I’m sure that was done out of desperation. She didn’t want to take the chance of losing her a second time. I just wished they had set some boundaries with the smoking, drinking and profanity right away. Who knows? Maybe she would have followed the rules. I know what the real mother allowed wasn’t right, but I understand. This is my first time seeing this movie, and it is so good. Better than any Lifetime movie I’ve ever seen with the same premise.

This is a crime, taking someone else's child, it's selfish, cruel. Introducing a frightened child to your home is just too overwhelming if you're doing it illegally. Be responsible first, know what you're getting into before you jump emotionally and do something you'll regret later. It's not normal to take someone else's child from them, your scarring the child and the family too. The cost of this to the family and society is taxing on the social system, it causes severe grief, loss, even the marriage sometimes.

I was in a very busy mall at Christmas time with my 2 year old daughter. She was watching a display of some cute mechanical puppies, I looked up and waived at a friend & looked down & my daughter was gone. I nearly died. Everything went into panic mode and security & police were in full action. It seemed like forever. My daughter had walked herself straight into the ice cream parlour and was charming the pants off of everyone until security came round and brought her back to me with an ice cream cone in one hand and a giant candy cane in the other.

Poor Alice. She’s the saddest victim. Naturally she is angry at the woman who abducted her. She wanted to see her family, but they were only the lesser of two evils. She felt she couldn’t face her abductor, but facing her family was equally awkward in a different way. There is no way that either Alice or her natural family will ever be the same. It sounds corny, but when a family is out in public with small children, everyone should wear an identical shirt. It helps mom and dad keep track of the kids and it helps kids keep track of their parents. The abductor should be in prison. No way should she be on the street.

some men cant talk to other men about problems so chat to female friends. doesnt mean there is anything going on. A study done a few years ago shows that only about 10% of men cheat while 80% of women cheat. More men get beaten by their wives than the other way around. My brother ended up in hospital with a fractured skull cause his wife wacked him on the head with a rolling pin. He found out she was cheating on him so confronted her about it. he turned his back and wack fractured skull. Not all women make good mums. some r terrible mums. My mum threw me away when i was 2 and wanted me adopted. my dad refused as he wanted to keep me. I ended up with foster parents. foster mum ignored me never asked how i got on in school. beat me when i got bullied at school. Foster dad tried everything he could to protect me. She ended up in a mental hospital. i was put on the at risk register by my social worker cause of how i was being treated by my foster mum. But his boss refused to move me somewhere safe. When i was 16 i found my mum. she refused to speak to me or even accept i was her son. my dad however hugged me and told me how much he loved me. out of the 5 of us kids i was his favorite. mum rejected me cause i had learning difficulties and a spine defect. Dad couldnt cope with 5 kids 2 had medical probs so reluctantly let me be fostered but refused to let me be adopted. He came to visit me every week and take me out but my foster mum started causing trouble so he was forced to stop visiting. When i was in hospital on life support my mum refused to come and visit me. her new husband had to drag her to the hospital to see me. 1st and only card i ever got from her was xmas when i was in hospital. she didnt even sign it mum just her name. My x threw her 12 year old daughter down the stairs and broke her arm cause she asked if she could call me dad. Women r far more abusive to their kids than men r. Most of the women in prison r their for child abuse. far more than men. I knew lots of kids that went through the same as me as i ended up going to a boarding school for kids that were having probs at home or medical probs. just about all of them said their mums didnt want them but their dads did.

The real mother is very insensitive to her daughter's feelings. She is only thinking of herself and her pain. She is not thinking of how that poor girl is feeling by being torn away from the people she knows as her parents and being put with strangers. The mother should have been a lot more sensitive to her and allowed supervised visits with the people who she thought of as her parents.

Her daughter had grown up thinking that the woman who had kidnapped her was her mother. She was a teenager and her whole life had been turned upside down. She had been taken away from the family she knew and sent to live with people who were strangers to her. Her mother was not thinking of how traumatizing it must be for her daughter.
